Well, this is less than £30.00 here. I have three of the aluminium mounts you are talking about but they do not fit to my setup. Either they are too tall for the chair or too far away when mounted on a table. Not to mention my mount is more "environment friendly". :P
Have not compared it without one but it really gives me some nice resistant, especially in DCS F-14B. And most of the time, I can feel the "weight" of it, most of the time much better than blue spring I used with TM Warthog HOTAS.
I don't get what you tried to do... You put a huge aircraft further away and a smaller one closer then tried to record through HUD clutter while shaking the screen... If you want to test improved spotting you put the same aircraft slightly offset at different distances and compare the size of the "dots" with spotting off and then on. If you want to get even more technical you take screenshots and crop them side-by-side.
Should have put it on video. In VR, the big aircraft which is further away makes a bigger "dot" in normal view but returned to correct size. This is an issue. Hope this explains.
Hey! i´ve linked your video to the spotting dot discussion and feedback thread in the official ED/DCS forum: Main Page > English > Digital Combat Simulator > DCS 2.9 > Bugs and Problems > Output and Visual Bugs > View and Spotting Bugs > page 43
First thanks! Second arrgh, it was not totally scientific! I miss out some info which may be helpful: 1. No QVFR 2. QPro 3. Connection through VD + VDXR 4. And I think I need to make a supplement short on the settings I am playing around with.
Came across your video looking for ideas on spotting anything on Heatblur's Cold War Server. It's frustrating as hell. I can't tell you Improved Dotes is anything other than a placebo.
It is really up to you and what you are doing with the map. I still like it as what stage it provides. I have seen worse in other sims so my metric may be more laxed. :)
I am with you on this one. I was looking forward to the update thinking maybe it is true - ED newsletter mentioned "low level" textures update. Now I know for sure not to buy this terrain.
It is the route from NE Norway, along the border between Sweden. It looks good in mid or high altitude. Towards the end of this clip, when the plane flies close to ground, you can see the texture "explodes". Also, the structures are still quite subpar, when compared with older maps.
Yeah I don't think they actually know what they are doing. For me in 2D I get dots at 30ish miles without improved spotting. 40ish with it on. The problem is when they get within 20 miles sometimes you can't see em at all. Heck sometimes I have trouble seeing a guy look-down within 5 lol They should just make dots into quarter inch circles. Also make aircraft appear twice as big when WVR. That'll solve the problem 😂
Thanks for your comments. I cannot call this even a solution cause it causes more confusion than help. I can have a plane "painted" in *bright orange* and when it is less than 5nm from me, under overhead sun, I can still miss it. I am going to make another round of test with a smaller plane like Ya-42 and see what happens.
Our group has "Operation North Woods" up on the Danger Close Server right now. We also have a winter Kola mission, "Operation Kola Bear", in the rotation. The server is "Danger Close Server".
Thanks for the upload, the map definitely looks way better now, along with the winter textures. I commend Orbx on their progress since Kola's initial release.
As always, it depends on your preferences, since one of my favorite DCS aircraft is the Viggen, it was an instant purchase for me and I have 0 regrets, the Developer has kept working on it, adding winter textures, more airbases, and on this last patch improved summer textures .. .my only wish would be to have it bigger towards the south, as the amount of Baltic Sea included is incredibly small.
I can only say it is far from Caucasus -- yet. Adjust your expectation and if you love the region, which I do, then you may wish to "invest" the Orbx will keep on making it better.
