I love Gn'R and am a big fan of Axl. But in my opinion, Gn'R needed Izzy's writing skills for the rock songs as much as they needed Axl's for the ballads. The two complimented each other well. The momentum that Gn'R had by the early 90s meant that the band kept sailing, long after one of their engines was removed. But eventually the big ship slowed down and then stopped. Say what you like about Chinese Democracy. But the Stones influenced sleazy rock was completely gone. If that's what you liked about Gn'R's earlier work, you won't find it here.
Wasnt it Rachel Bolan who was saying that he thought Izzy was a really cool guy and mentioned talking to Duff about that and how they chatted for like two hours, only for Duff to respond with surprise, as the band collectively hasnt spoken to Izzy for two hours in the previous year?
Every interview with Izzy after he left GnR makes it so clear that he was miles ahead of every band member when it came to his outlook on what's best for the band and completely dropping his ego. Izzy no longer making music was a major loss for the world.
the real reason he left was the rest of the band gave him a new contract to sign where his royalty percentage was cut. You may recall this happened to michael anthony and most recently with mick mars. it is a dog act.
I really can’t say I blame him for leaving the band. He got clean and didn’t subscribe to the drugs/alcohol/excess that GnR was known for, and he just wanted to stay lowkey and genuine. Being in the spotlight 100% all the time is not for everybody. I respect him for not only getting clean and beating addiction but for staying true to himself and who he is as a musician.
izzy knew he would end up dead of an OD eventually so he went back to Indiana and asked his Dad to help him get clean. Smart guy. He was right about where he was headed and saved his life
The Gun's loose something "special" after his departure, I guess all the weight went to Saul Hutson "Slash" who embraced his lost in the band, and He made it
IZZY and Tracii was the real rock n Rollers who ever played in that band they left because they dont wanna do that big thing i mean IZZY doe it but he left after 3 years and Tracii says AXL your an Asshole i want to do my stuff and creates the LA Guns
What audio was cut off? Right at the very end of the video. Izzy was twirling his finger around the side of his head...like you would if you were explaining someone or something was crazy
Kudos to this guy for clearing up his act and getting the shit together after years of substance abuse, then walking away from one of the biggest rock bands of the time at its peak, and putting out his own material that sounded so him and so cool; and be totally low key about the whole thing! takes some balls and real cool attitude to do this
My opinions on guns n' roses guitar players was: - Izzy Stradlin (true brain of gnr) - Ron Bumblefoot (soul and skillful master) - Buckethead (demon speed) - Slash (so gimmick, stage performer only) - Paul Tobias, Gilby Clarke, DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus (Clowns, male cheerleaders) Anyway, I respect them all. At least in my way 🍻
GNR without Izzy is like Slayer without Hanneman... Big fan of both bands and i didn't keep following em cos the 2 song writers of the bands for different reasons left
I look back into my childhood when i was 8 the 20 something year old son of my neighbour got me down from a tree that i got stuck in and he looked a lot like izzy when he had black hair not as hot tho but i was 8 when that happened
