@@erikriza7165 After PASTORS DABO VOBIS came out guys in formation had to add a "pastoral year" before ordination to the transitional diaconate. It used to be that the diaconate gave them that year of experience but now this new year was given, on top of -at least in the usa- a period of time to study and learn Spanish.I was rather shocked it started at St. Pat's, this program seemed like a good idea that would have come from Mount St, Mary's in MD or St Charles in Philadelphia.
it is so critical today that new priests inculcate the catholic faith that is in the catechism. people, especially young people, leave the church because they have never heard of the athanasian creed, they do not believe in the real presence, they don't believe Jesus is God! why? because the stupid sermons are never about the catholic faith. every heresy and question today has been settled hundreds of years ago, more than a thousand years ago. read the cantate domino and laetentur Coeli of Eugene iv, and you will shut up every wannabe orthodox because the eastern fathers and the byzantine emperor were convinced and acceded to the truth of the catholic faith in the council of Florence. Jesus did not try to convince the wise and the learned, his disciples were the simple and the childlike at heart because they had the humility to obey the word of God without twisting it. but the gospels must be preached without hesitation by the church
Sal ran the Sulpicians out of St. Patrick a few years ago - damage control ever since. These faculty members are hacks compared to the likes of Ray Brown, Richard Gula, Fred C, and so many more.., Sal has wrecked not only the archdiocese but priestly formation on the west coast for a generation. His unilateral decision with respect to St Patrick Seminary was a violation of the collegial spirit the bishops strive to maintain for the good of all. Archbishop Quinn, pray for us.
