No, I bought a Magni-24 and had to return it because I could not get any type of insurance (liability or hull) - even though the brokers assured me i could... The underwriters have a hard cut-off of 75 years old, and most of them won't underwrite anyone over 70.

Did you buy one of these? Do you have an opinion of the Cavalon vs the M24?
@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 5 месяцев назад
Yes, I bought one but had to return it to MagniFly because I found I was uninsurable because of age - even after passing my FAA medical and previous assurances by insurance brokers that there would be no problems.... A sad day and a very unexpected end to this adventure. I have been in both the Cavalon and the M24, and although they are both good ships, I think the M24 is more forgiving because of the much heavier rotor. This also makes it less 'quick', so some may prevfer that to the M24s stability.

@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 6 месяцев назад
I bought one and it was assembled and tested at MagniFlight. BUT - I then found out I was uninsurable because of age (although I had passed my FAA Class 3). So unfortunately I had to sell it back to MagniFlight. I had previously been assured by insurance brokers that liability insurance would be no problem... I checked every underwriter in the USA, but no luck. I was told that all underwriters have a hard age cut off at 75, with most not even insuring past 70 unless you were a long-term customer. Just a word of warning to us 'mature' pilots...

I wonder if conical rounds would improve accuracy, though it may require work to adapt them for the design
@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 Год назад
They do, but not enough to make it worthwhile to severely modify the design. If a longer bullet is used, the powder chamber also has to be elongated to accommodate it, and this means it has to be narrow, unless a much slower powder is used. I tried swaged .222 bullets, and they were more accurate, but at the ranges I used (less than 40 yards), there was no practical advantage.

Great video! I wonder, in my observation the stick is vibrating a lot, is that always the case with a gyroplane?
@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 Год назад
The vibration depends a lot on the type of rotors and the flight conditions. Heavier rotors, such as used by the Magni, generally have more stick shake, simply because they weigh more. Stick shake will also vary with rotor loading, reaching a minimum at some point and increasing on either side of that. The shake is not a harsh vibration and is not uncomfortable unless something is badly out of balance,
@misdangered4326
@misdangered4326 Месяц назад
I’ve seen this stick-shake in other videos recently and was wondering about it, so thanks for asking that question. 🙂

@@stephenwardlaw6428 what is the reason to travel south down to Alabama to do your license, is it the pricer? and why would delivery of the machine be there (i presume you like Magni from Italy)? don't you want to have it at home? I'm in Europe, part of former east block and also dreaming doing my license. possibly this summer...however to own a new gyro is very costy...
@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 Год назад
@@4shellma The gyro is delivered as a 'kit' to MagniFlight, their rep in Gulf Shores. I and their team assemble it (about a week), and then it must be flown for 40 hours locally before I can ferry it up here. I will also use that flight time , both instructed and solo, to get proficient and to learn the Dynon nav and comm system.

If electricity could cause gun powder to ignite, then could an EMP (electromagnetic pulse which induces high voltage) nearby cause the powder to ignite?
@stephenwardlaw6428
@stephenwardlaw6428 Год назад
Good question. Gunpowder is non-conductive (generally) and so can't have an induced current from a magnetic field, such as that from an EMP. Also, any conductor has to be long enough that the field can generate sufficient voltage to do damage, which depends upon the field intensity and type of pulse. The short answer is no, it can't.
@filigenzilab9613
@filigenzilab9613 Год назад
@@stephenwardlaw6428 I see. Thank you!
@badgermcbadger1968
@badgermcbadger1968 8 месяцев назад
@@stephenwardlaw6428black powder is usually coated with graphite which makes it conductive, therefore a strong enough changing magnetic field will be able to induce enough eddy current to heat it up and potentially ignite it. However it is impossible you will ever come across a sufficiently powerful pulse to do so.
