I was mainly with the ymsa as was the club in my area, i live right next to the butts track 5 mins drive But never practiced there as not allowed to ride it unless raceday😢 I was in the 60s same time as chris martin my first year we started to do racing At age 7. Raced and started when leon haslam did, we hung out good mates of track,my dad already knew the family has he also raced with ron before ron become famous racing the isle of man t-t and become rocket ron haslam They was a great family and didnt act no different to a family who struggled to pay to go racing every week Leon didnt take long to become fast, id beat him 90% of the time when we started racing The second year he had this bike which was like a kx 60 factory bike disk breaks front and rear alu extended swing arm extra radiator so it had 2 on with the extra shroud added and a modified airbox etc engine wise unsure as we didnt like to ask this is just what we saw, but ron gave my dad a cylinder the piston and head ron said dont use them one without the other peices, he gave us that when my bike seized at finingley track, thank you to the haslams you treat us like family Oh and that cylinder etc on my bike which only had a pipe on as far as engine mods go fmf it was, well the bike was like wow extra power it added was awesome really was All i no is ron was riding for kawi at tht time and they must of been getting ron these parts for leons bikes Which odd ocasion he had 3 bikes in the white ford transit 1 bike wasnt like the 2 newer bikes, leon told thats just the bike he used to practice on But they wasnt show offs, there would only be 1 bike out the van at any time Anyway exscuse the rambling on and my grammer i never did much school I learn myself over the years doing homework with my daughter Anyway hope anyone reading this is doing ok in life, do any of you still ride? Hi mate, thanks for the message. I can only remember doing one YMSA event and it was bloody miles away from Cornwall 🤣. I beat Swordy sometimes but he was usually quicker than me (although I do think I would've won it in 1990 if it wasn't for me being unconscious for about 45 minutes after crashing at Wroxton a couple of months before the BSMA finals....I was quick that year before the crash. do you have any videos from another races back then, I rode against Chris Martin in 60cc and glenn Philips, also mark n Anthony peel from Newcastle, they seemed to just dissappear after riding 60s, and they could give c Martin a race then
how comes swordy is riding in the 60 at 10 years old? meant for 6 to 9s, that's not right. then year after he came second in the 80s behind Carl harris
