Great video thank you. One question with such a strong grip how do you release the club through the ball? Ive tried this with reasonable success but feel like im holding on to the club face after impact. thank you in advance for your answer Paul
Hi Paul! Thank you for your comment! Honestly the release should happen organically with your hands that strong on the grip. If you feel like you're holding on I'd check your grip pressure and make a more aggressive attempt at releasing it manually. In other words, let it go! 😂
As always, a great tip. Coaching lesson. It’s exactly what I need right now. I can’t wait to get to Florida to start a lesson program with you. See you soon
Hello Mark, As an 82 year old "lefty"golfer who just received my first set of fitted clubs from Club Champion, I found your video very helpful! Glad I found your site Now, I want to take your tips for older golfers to the practice range! Looking forward to getting my game below 90 on a consistent basis. Most games now are low to mid 90's. Thanks Bob
@@DurlandGolfSchoolNaples I've tried to swing left(lefthanded golfer) to help with the slice but I have a problem closing the face with causes a straight block, straight left, I've heard the release will depend on the grip and I have a neutral grip and I've heard with that grip I have to row my forearms more through impact. IDK but this game is super hard. lol
Of course! There are always other variables to consider. A strong grip could yield forward shaft lean organically. I see a ton of forward shaft lean when swinging the driver with excessively strong grips.
Hey Tom! Sorry for the confusion. Each putt is for par so the goal is to be even par after the three putts. In other words, you have to make all three. Like I did! 😊
I get where my hands are moving away from my body all the time. This was very helpful I was doing it last week and couldn’t figure out what my problem was until watching this video. Thank you Mark.
You completely got the issues reversed. I have a strong grip, but exclusively push and mis to the right. Closing the clubface at address doesn’t work and costs me massive distance. The answer to any issue is watching your wrists. I cup at the top, so when I swing fast my wrist gets stuck cupped, which opens the face. So before impact I only think about the sensation of uncupping back to a flat wrist. If you hook too much, you have excessive bowing in the wrist, causing a closed face. Correcting it is just the same, making sure your wrist come back exactly the same as setup. Grip and wrist angle matter, and point the direction in which we would need to correct the issue. If you bow at the top, you probably have a neutral to weak grip, if you cup at the top you likely have a strong grip like me. If you have a strong grip and attempt to stay cupped through impact you will absolutely push to the right, and if bowed you will hook the ball with crazy spin losing massive distance. From my research, I learned there are only 3 wrist/grip match ups. Weak=bowed Nuetral=flat Strong =cupped at the top. They don’t mix with each other. Past that formula, your error should be plain to see by ball flight. Missing left with a weak grip or neutral grip, you are closing the face too much with a bowed wrist. Missing right, you aren’t closing the face enough with a strong grip. Again, for in my opinion the most powerful matchup and what all the farthest hitters in the world and of all time… a strong grip matched with a cupped wrist at the top produces the fastest speed and max wrist hinge/release, however to control the face you need to flatten you lead wrist as it was at address, and that will give you dead straight balls, as there is no need to over rotate in any direction.
Nice to see a lefty giving instructions finally. I must say though, I spent my whole life automatically translating what a right hander says to do it left handed, now my brain is broken since I don't have to think backwards. Lol. Thanks for the lesson.
I've been trying to game-plan my rounds more lately, and it just dawned on me that I really need to be familiar with my carry distances. This is the info I needed, thanks!
Really good advice Mark. Prior to watching this video I have actually been working on the Pro finish, and swinging easier. And they really work. I still struggle with getting a nice divot though. Especially with fairway woods.
Thank you for your comment Gerry! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The PGA Tour finish and better rhythm will help you get the divot in front. Full transparency it should be more of a brush than a divot with fairway woods. Try this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IF3Z0WnutdQ.html Keep working hard!
I watched the video several times and then went to put the "reforms" in action. I had high hopes, but I guess I did it all wrong. My slice actually increased. Maybe my problem is different than this video tackles. I wonder what I should try next?
Hi Jeff (@jeffray6525)! Sorry to hear your slice didn't get better. There are certainly many ways to generate a slice ball flight. This video may help: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rBZfydk94kA.html Also, here's a link if you're interested in some remote coaching with me: app.coachnow.io/i/bef1caebcb/5462. This would be a surefire way to eliminate the slice for good!
Hi Hugh! I’m also right handed but play left handed. I like to talk about both hands and give my students the choice on which way they want to do it. I’ve noticed the dominant hand isn’t always the one the student chooses! Thanks for your comment!
This video hit home for me. I do like to practice and playing the game beforehand on the practice range is a great idea. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks for the video. Question: Could use a video on the best way to hit out of a sand trap where the sand is pounded down from rain or lack of proper raking. ( my home course in Northern NY- links style course but difficult sand.). Hope all is well with you and the family as you head into summer. Bill
Welcome to my channel Jordan! I’m presenting at a teaching symposium Thursday but will be shooting some content after. I teach in Naples, FL so just coming out of our busy season. Most of my videos I do in the summer. Soooo, that’s a long way to say STAY TUNED!!
Hi Mark, being a fellow lefty, you videos have been really helpful, how do I find more information on your online membership that you talked about in your you tube video? Thank you
@scottcumpton-jz9xs Hi Scott! Thank you for your comment. I'm thrilled to hear you're enjoying my channel! Here is a link to my memberships ru-vid.com/show-UCcCzl6wYDp-i-SfYNG0ia-Ajoin Please let me know if you have any other questions!
@@donaldnguyen19 watch the entire video on my RU-vid video. I talk about replacing length of arc with width of arc therefore improving sequencing for more output. More than one way to get it done! Here's a link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iprBjztVd9I.html
Thank you! This helped me immensely. I tried all things - stance, club draw settings etc. Tilting and pulling my shoulder back instantly correct my path issues. I write right handed but am a lefty golfer. Have been frustrated with the lack of lefty lessons and guidance. Most online lessons are righty and say 'if you're lefty' just do the opposite. That sucks. You've done a great service to all left handed golfers trying to improve; appreciate you. I've subscribed. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks Jay! I’m also right handed but play lefty! Welcome to my channel and glad this video helped. I’ll have new videos soon. I teach in Florida so busy in the winter and shoot most my videos in the summer. Shooting some stuff for Golf Magazine too! Stay tuned!
Good review for me... as I wait to hit some balls at the range later today. Of course, I have your training aid but I don't hit like you do every time but I do some of the time. First time I have seen you start a video without your hat! BB
Great video. After 30 years of trying to fix my constant slice and countless lessons and frustration. Your video fixed it. Cant believe it was this easy. Thank you!!
mark have not been to florida for a few years had three back surgeries and still not good so i need to shorten my back swing and a more stronger full thru to get distance i, working i=on it i,m in michigan as you may recall we had some great times when i took lession from you and always had some jokes. i am happy your golf instruction business is growing dan mistura
Helpful with actionable things to work on/practice. The front facing view and the side view (split screen) that you show before hitting the ball not being sync'd up is surprisingly distracting lol.
Hi Mark - Great video. New to your site. Glad you’re a Lefty. What are your thoughts on weighted training clubs like the Momentus etc? Do you have any videos on Ball position? Thanks, Your 🇨🇦 Friend
Hi Leon! Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Not a huge fan of weighted clubs as they tend to slow people down versus speed them up (for distance). It really depends what you're using it for, to pull you to a good finish or extension through impact it could be helpful. Here is my ball position video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vnbv5CbbYKc.html
Very tricky finding fellow leftys. I constantly have to watch right handed videos. Being right handed but swinging left , I find it tricky to unleash the power I feel I still have.
Hi Brian! I'm glad you found my channel. I am right handed and swing lefty as well. We are in good company because Phil does too! Keep working hard and you'll get better at unleashing your power. All the best!
You're absolutely correct (For a right-handed golfer😉). The knees follow the toes and aren't designed for "shearing". As mentioned, if used properly the correct knee movement will keep a player centered. Thanks!
