Music Video Reaction. I have become an A Capella channel recently and I am not complaining!! It is nice to listen to only voices sometimes!! Or in my case, all the time!!
Thank you for reacting to Voctave. They are amazing as a group and individually. Please keep reacting to more Voctave, even their Christmas songs during the summer months. Great job.
In the timeline of VP, this video was after Earl left the group but before Cesar joined. So technically they were down one member. That said, though they have stated that they write/arrange songs for the voices they have, not the voices they want. A masterful piece overall.
This was a tribute to John Williams and for that reason they included the picture of the Olympic rings, as John Williams did the music for that Olympics as well.
The Partwork Series was Patreon chosen projects, some had just two or three members performing all five parts and the sheet music was offered to a Capella groups to perform themselves.
This is from a way back but just as good. A real bop. For me they almost always improve a song. There have been a couple that I found not to my taste but that doesn't mean they weren't great.
I love the classical sounding addition to this. And the ecclesiastical setting. So fitting. Personally I don't like giving these things a number. I just enjoy it, or I don't. And this one I love.
This was Eli's first arrangement for VoicePlay. Looking through your videos, I see you haven't reacted to their covers of Hoist the Colours or Valhalla Calling? Those are both phenomenal.
I concur. Check out Geoff's solo Blackbird (Beatles) which falls into that category. Geoff also did Jack's Lament (Nightmare Before Christmas) is one of my top Geoff's.
Try Don't Stop Believing by VP. That is really good. I don't think they aim to make a better song, they aim to make a different version. They always say they are not a karaoke band 😉. Thanks. 🌹🕊
The "I'm gonna carve his heart out" was a tribute to Alan Rickman in Robin Hood as was Eli's accent in "And we'll make him listen to VoicePlay while we do it". Buckey (our drunken sailor) was part of VoicePlay for awhile before his singing voice gave it up. He went on to act as a voice actor for Disney. He did a short with VoicePlay (I'm Gonna Walk 500 Miles) and he also did the choreography in Geoff's solo of Monster Mash. Geoff usually does extras at the end of his solos - see best example in Jack's Lament. Drunken Sailor is one of the best for VoicePlay. They usually do the newer ones without the lead so it's easier to hear the other lines at the end. We all never tire of the extras. The captain's daughter is also known as the cat o'nine tails that the captain carried around with him. Put him in the scupper with a hose pipe bottom was sometimes used to void bathroom breaks out of the side of the ship. Put him in a longboat til he's sober is also legit.
So good! Home Free rickrolled us 3 times with this. You should hear their short version of Bohemian Rhapsody before this song….it sounds so good. The hair and dancing were in old Rick Astley videos of the 80’s. So funny and yet so good. Good reaction Pat! 😃😍
yet another quarantine video that they blasted out of the park. Tim was at the HF storage/rehearsal space. I had to go watch Astley's original video again to remind myself how closely they mimicked it.
These guys are so goofy & funny but the vocals never suffer. This was them spoofing the famous song by Rick Astley from the 80's. They copied the clothes, hairstyles & dance moves from the original video. Also they filmed it in the old resolution from that time.
The year the song came out. It came out on april 2nd. But the day before in april 1st, they pulled april fools jokes on us, cuz in that day they released what we thought was songs like “my heart will go on”, “bohemeian rhapsody” and “dont stip believing”. Lol the did a very short intro to each song , enough to hook us, then each sing changed i to a repeated clip if never gonna give you up lol
The original live performance from Phil Collins is actually pretty samey up until the drum solo comes in. Look it up sometime, and you'll see what we mean. People tend to forget how long it is until Phil Collins sits down at the drums. Knowing the original those of us who know it can see how much VP did with this, giving that 80s vibe, even the nod to Miami Vice. I guess you're too young to know that stuff. :)
I remember hearing Phil Collins do this in concert and he started it like VP did. He didn't hit the drums until 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through. I love VPs version here. The 1972 Pontiac was loaned by Layne's dad who had bought it new. J None had the Miami Vice jacket on.
There is a Phil Collins video. IMO this one is better. As a certified Old Person™, the slow start didn't bother me because it does call back to the original, but also I was busy geeking out over all the authentic 80s touches - the jackets, the car, Geoff's cut-off sleeves and his hair, the aspect ratio at the beginning, the VHS degradation artifacts (and that theme is carried on into the second half in the sound choices they made--those rock belts and the flourishes like Cesar's "I can feel it" are all _quintessential_ 80s.)
If you go watch the original again, it starts out slow as well. You are not remembering correctly. Especially if you watch the live version, it starts out even slower than this one.
I love their version... from beginning to end. The original It is a very repetitive song - and they made each verse unique (as there are no instruments of course). They went for an 80's feel - including the VHS distortions. I think it is an amazing Layne arrangement. Of course my favourite Geoff arrangement is indeed Nothing Else Matters... but considering that they do EVERYTHING themselves, I feel both were awesome. Thank you for your honest reaction though! 🌹🕊
We will agree to disagree. Cesar does a side eye near the beginning when the lyrics are "if I saw you were drowning I would not lend a hand" that grabbed me right away. Layne's beautiful baritone solo, same. We don't get to hear him sing often enough. I thought it was wonderful!!!!!
They went for 1980s Miami Vice feel. Laynes' dads 1972 Pontiac. J. dressed like Crockett. They had a few hiccups with the lights, fog machine, and being eaten by bugs. They had live audience with people walking by stopping to watch them film. Filmed behind the Oviedo Mall where Layne and Tony have their PattyCake Productions studio.
Oh those dudes in the car…. Random college dudes: Do you need any background dancers? Layne: Are you hot chicks? I laughed for a solid ten minutes on that. Lanye is fast AF; I never want to cross wits with him. But he managed to tell them no in a way where they laughed about it rather than be upset.
What a great remake of Roy Orbison's classic song. I remember the cover Home Free did on the "Sing Off". This one is even more fun. Love the 50's-60's pompadour hairstyles & great outfits. Great song & video. The guys really rocked this!
This song has always been a fan favorite. What a great remake of "Ring Of Fire". It was first done on the "Sing Off" in 2013 & then later with Avi Kaplan. The visuals reminds me of "Fishin' In The Dark"/"Boondocks". Chance is a nice addition to this version. Of course love Tim's lows & Adam's awesome vocal percussion. I think he sounds even better on this one.
New subscriber here! Love your reactions. I love VoicePlay so much they're beyond amazing. I was wondering how I can request a song for you to react to? I have a couple in mind but I can't find your song request thing on your page
