At around 5.19 in the Kapfenberg video (the one running 18.57) there's even a nod to Grand Rapids, in the upper left corner on the building in the back
It's amazing what people can do when they work together. I lived there for quite a while (but I'm really a Yooper from the UP) and those streets are normally full.
Live in a small town outside the Greater Grand Rapids metro (not Rockford!! everybody says ROckford!) I work in the city and is a great city. Great place to visit! It's off the beaten path , so to speak, but its bigger than Lansing and prettier too! I saw this about 12 years ago, my sister is somewhere in the video, I think. Wanted to see it again! Still awesome!
I've watched this video several times over the years, my biggest complaint is that i can only give it the thumbs up once. Absolutely an amazing job by the film maker and everyone involved!
Thank you for posting this BTS video! I produce lip dubs and this was so helpful to learn. (And the GRLD is simply the best... one of my favorite pieces of modern Americana!!)
just saw this for the first time because of the American Pie documentary over on paramount plus. I can even begin how to plan and organize something on this scale
I had to watch this video since the song came on in the truck. This video moves me to tears more than the original song. Weird right? I grew up in GR and loved it!
I’m surprised I’ve never seen or heard of this before. It wasn’t until the director of photography of this video showed me this in class last week to demonstrate how a music video can be made that I knew this existed (he’s a cool prof by the way)
Born in Grand Rapids, first time seeing this. Mild case of being 9 years old must've kept this under my radar back in 2011. So much love, brought me to tears. Thanks for this, love our city <3
I want speak English, but I don’t know. Obrigado.
GRAND RAPIDS IS A HUGE RED CROSS TOWN EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK A RED CROSS MASTER AND STATESMAN IS THERE TO GREET YOU IF YOU START A PROBLEM WITH THE GRAND RAPIDS RED CROSS MASTER AND STATESMAN BE PREPARED TO DEFEND YOURSELF
My Husband is a Michigander who transplanted to Milwaukee, WI for work and when this came out, he was SO PROUD of Michigan. It was my intro to Michiganders. WELL DONE
As a Texan with a lot of pride in my state, I fell in absolute love with western Michigan. Good folk up there, much love for my Yankee friends up there along the Grand. One of the best places in the US.
Never heard about this till I watched “the day the music died” documentary. What an amazing video. What joy in that community. Congratulations Grand Rapids and to the filmmaker
Just finished watching The Day The Music Died, a documentary about the song American Pie. I searched for this video immediately, and now I don't know why I'm tearing up... Long live this song and the people behind this video. I hope you are doing good.
I periodically play this amazing video, just because I love it so much. While driving way out in Southern California today, "American Pie" came on. Soon as I got home, I played this video again. Long live Grand Rapids. :)
Wow. I've watched this many times. And I actually want to visit Grand Rapids now! You all are awesome! You took some negative press and turned it into an opportunity to celebrate your city and the people in it! Blessing on you all!
one continuous shot.. so much coordination and so many people needing to hit their marks and know all the lyrics. They ALL nailed it.. every single person. Amazing.
