We bought a 30 plus acre plot of land and decided to build our dream home, create a homestead, and do it all ourselves. We are just normal people like most, doing all things that needs to be done with a few unnecessary projects along the way having fun.
Did you just bring your dog with you while entering a poison oak patch? Never let your dog go into poison oak. He will get it all over his fur and spread it to you later when you touch him.
I have considered getting goats for keeping down the wild black berries, but I did not know they would eat the Poison Oak as well. Thank you very much.
The vine in the tree, just leave it alone. The active oils in poison oak and ivy can remain for years. UC Davis did a study years ago and found that branches cut and left on the roof of one of their labs were still poisonous four years later through all the heat and weather. My property is covered with poison oak and too much to spray, I just cut it back with the rotary cutter backing over it. Then use a heavy concentrate of warm water and simply green on the equipment, let sit for 30 minutes or so then pressure wash. Like another commentor said don't ever burn it, the smoke will carry the poison. My father when he worked for the Forest Service, the hand crew burnt a bunch of it and it sent some of the crew to the hospital from inhaling the smoke.
Thank you for commenting and for your advice. I like the idea of backing over the dead Poison Oak with a tiller of sorts. I may end up using that technique here on a place or two.
FYI , the urachal oil stays active for 2 - 3 years maybe more after the vine dies or the oil gets on your loppers you used to cut the vines with. Make sure you thoroughly wash and clean any tools you use. I have the same issues here on the property I just bought and my plan is to get WELL suited up and protected when I clean it up .
Very good to know. I had no idea the oils would stay around that long. I was scared to even touch the loppers I used. They've been hanging on a fence for over a year now. No good at this point, im sure. Best of luck with your removal and keep me updated how it goes.
Wild parsnips it the worst of them all. It took me 6 months too get rid of it and it stayed under my skin burning like fire at all times and it was just on my hands only.
Your remember do not burn those trees because you will get it into your lungs and stomach. My brother almost passed away from it. He couldn't walk or eat but by someone too feed him.
Had an Aunt that as a child was exposed to a burn pile that had some in it. She lived but they say she was unrecognizable and in the Hospital for some time. Good advice NOT to burn you have there.
Zero handiness in my home but I’d like to take my jetted tub out and make it a shower and take my shower and turn it into a huge linen/towel cabinet. Your bathroom looks awesome
Thank you very much for you comments. You can do it to your bathroom too! Just about anything you need to learn is on the innerweb nowadays. I remodeled our bathroom because it had carpet all the way up to the shower! We sold this house and now been working on building our dream house. Currently working on getting new videos of our build up and live.
Great work. You saved $15k to $20k doing this work yourself. Good craftsmanship in fitting the curved corners on the base molding. Some wainscoting would have been a bonus. A shout out from Houston, Texas via Little Rock, Arkansas.
Well thank you very much for the complement! Yes we did end up saving some good $$$, not real sure what it would have all amounted to but it was definitely worth it. Two Great places. Texas and Little Rock Arkansas!
I appreciate your interest, but that would be quite a commute cross country. I wish you the best on your project and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
I worked at a big box store during COVID what lockdown ? everyone was in walking around piling up carts of plants and mulch , Lumber carts full of kids oh it was Hell on earth! Nobody could go in an office but they could crowd 30 deep in the fastener aisle :/
I’m doing the same thing. In my case, I had to cut the tub into small pieces to get it out of the bathroom. I hated the demo. It was so dusty and smelly.
Demo is never fun. Always more work than your mind tells you before you start. At least your doing it and getting it done! Wish you well with your project.
Hey man! Great great job... I know the answer to my question is 'it depends' based on finishings chosen and such, but can you give a range/swag/estimate of total $$ Cost and how much time you put in? Many thanks!
This was the best video I have seen from start to finish great job!🏡 I'm sending this video to my husband you really motivated me that we can do it on our own! The only thing I was trying to figure out the tub situation it looks like you had to remove the pipes.
I also have a jet tub that I want to remove. How would you rate the difficulty? Also was fixing the plumbing hard? I love your new bathroom! Just gorgeous.
Its would depend on how much experience you have with remodeling? Someone with good handyman skills I would say difficulty of 4 or 5 if they have all the tools available. If not real handy, could be a 9. The plumbing now days is very easy with PEX. Makes it quick but you sill have to make sure a your drains flow down hill! Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
Good News. I started gutting the bathroom down to the studs in October of 2021. As of the first week of January it’s all done and put back together. No more tub. This video gave me the confidence to pull the tub myself. Thanks!
Yes. Un fortunately the jet tub plumbing in my situation did not work and had to all be removed. For example the drain to the jet tub was at one end and the new soaking tub required a center style setup. Thank you for your comment and watching.
