Prachtig !!! Deze kerk zou een schitterende plaats van samenkomst zijn ,voor een Oecomenische Erendienst....met wellicht als toevoeging een mooi Orgel Concert met koren uit div. Geloofsstromingen..waarin het gedachtengoed van .... Menselijke naastenliefde.. Centraal staat.
Weird they never show the organist or aujdience just a few people wandering around. Not sure who wrote the prelude that sort of goes nowhere much like it's vaugue fugue. FOCUS guys!!.
Though as far as I know it's played as written, this piece is probably too grinding and dissonant (at least as heard through computer speakers) to win over too many converts to the organ.
whatever that piece of music was did not do justice to this magnificent organ , listen to it when it was the crystal cathedral church with its excellent organists
Unfortunately, I can't. The console pedals and keys face the pipes and choir chairs, and the back faces the congregation. Search for my "Grand Finale" video to see the console's position. Only the choir can see the organist play.
@@kooldavewarren Thank you. I've only been in that area once over 30 years ago. I wanted to see the organ so my sister and I stopped and it happened there was something going on in the church at the time. I persuaded the ticket taker at the door that I just wanted to have a look, and I wasn't going to stay. He let me in!
The Hazel Wright Organ, also known as the Crystal Cathedral Organ, is an awe-inspiring musical instrument located in the Christ Cathedral of Garden Grove, California, USA. Constructed by the Fratelli Ruffatti organ company of Padua, Italy, the organ's installation began in 1980 and was completed by 1982. It boasts an impressive size, comprising over 16,000 pipes distributed across five manuals and 273 stops, weighing approximately 287 tons. Reflecting the style of European cathedral organs, it was meticulously designed to complement the acoustics and aesthetics of the Crystal Cathedral. Named after Hazel Wright, a generous donor to the cathedral, the organ is celebrated for its powerful and versatile sound, ranging from delicate to majestic. Serving as the primary instrument for worship services, accompanying choirs and congregational singing, it also hosts concerts and special events. Following the cathedral's purchase by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange in 2012, the organ underwent extensive renovation and enhancement as part of the overall restoration project. As a symbol of dedication and vision, the Hazel Wright Organ continues to captivate musicians and visitors alike, leaving an enduring legacy within the Christ Cathedral community.
The console is located in the cathedral's choir loft. From my camera angle, you can't see it because it's hidden behind the soundbar. A visiting organ scholar from The Juilliard School was performing. If you look closely, you can see David Ball, Cathedral Organist, in a white choir robe, who happens to be behind the visiting organ scholar adjusting some knobs on the console. View my video, "Grand Finale, 9/30/22" to see where the console is located.
Did the recent restoration project add a third console? I see what looks like the original front 5m console way off on the left around the 1:00 mark, but the organist is playing at a smaller console in the center front.
Today, there are two consoles in the cathedral, the main Hazel Wright console and another on the south balcony (look at my May 7 video and you will see the south balcony console). The console you see over to the left-hand side of the screen is the Hazel Wright Organ 5-manal console. The organist was using a small temporary console during pipe organ tuning. The tuning was halted in early 2020 due to Covid-19 and the folks were sent back to Italy. With the tuning complete the Hazel Wright Organ went "live" in March of this year.
@@aliggemb Oh - that makes sense of what I was seeing. I'm glad to hear that all those thousands of pipes are singing again! Thanks for sharing some of the music you get to hear in person with those of us on the other side of the country.
