Saw you at Blackpool Rebellion this week! You were the best band for me all weekend, and i've not heard of you before - which i'm sorry about!! mind you - you did say you've not been to the UK for 30yrs or so! please please come back! :)
This is the song that played in my headphones the moment someone drove into my moms car (everyone was fine) also the start of me seeing how the lyrics of spanish love songs songs connect to my life (im going insane)
The SP guitar sound is one that sticks with me. I bought Born to Quit when I was a teenager and it remains one of my favorites to this day. But Into the Agony had a sound that was very straightforward and the guitar had more low frequencies present. This guitar tone reminds me of that. I love the 90’s guitar sounds because it was about the guitar and amp, and not much else. Weezer is an example of that. There are very few authentic guitar tones that are out in public these days. The Smoking Popes are keeping that 90’s sound alive.
First time seeing The Matches was at the Java Joint, Saint Cloud, MN in 2003. Epic show, epic band. Only God knows why he decided to end their undeniable greatness as a band, and not allow the astronomical success they had potential for.
Been a huge fan since early 90's(in my early 20's), at 53 now, still as big a fan as ever. Have yet to catch u guys "live"...missed ya's back home in Boston.
I once wrote something "I'd hold my breath but I'd choke to death" but God they not only did it better......but this perfectly describes my depression and fear of abandonment. Thanks so much OWTH
100% honest here…I absolutely loved frosting on the beater as a kid…but it was like there was something that kept me from searching out their other earlier stuff. Kind of cool to be here at this stage in my life and realize I should’ve looked harder. Great f’n song!!
They would not pass a round in any talent reality. And that's why the world sucks even more than before. They are an awesome couple that signed some of the best 90's albums. Or maybe I am just old and pissed, who cares.
This might be my fave song of theirs. So well written and fast paced. In a better world, Poli would still be with them. All four just work so well together.
