I feel for you. With all due respect: Is there anyway that you can take the people that sold you the horse to court. Because it will cost you a lot of money on vets etc... to get him healthy. You are doing all the right things for the horse, and I sincerely hope that you can ride him some day. In the mean time keep the faith and the love for your horse. I hope to GOD that nothing else comes up. But in my heart I know that the people that sold you the horse knew of his health problems, they didn't want to spend all that money on him, which is sad, and a bad reputation for that barn and owners. Sorry to say this but on your next purchase use your own vet or take him to a large animal University for a purchase exam.Good luck and GOD BLESS YOU!

I think the strawberry and good old dependable apple. Seeing hes on stall rest, you could quarter the apples and put in a bucket of water for dunking! Black horses friesian have Bear in stable rest after a major operation (metal plate and 18 screws ) He's being absolutely spoilt with loads of food and cuddles from his humans. One of them did this for him and he loved it! He's at the vets fighting off an infection resistant to anti biotics so his humans go and visit him and bring him food, love and scratches. He is the gentlest at mutual grooming😊. Positive vibes our darling Bear 🐻 💙 ❤️

My horse has been tripping a lot since his injury. But he has also been on stall rest. There is a regimen of hand walking that goes along with stall rest, may be your vet can help with that

@starda01
@starda01 4 дня назад
I may present an opinion that’s not popular, but I don’t think stall rest is a good option, unless he’s got an acute injury. Horses need movement, even chronically lame ones. If he really needs to avoid full turnout, perhaps there is a limited space small paddock he can use. Have you had his neck xrayed to check for ECVM? It’s a congenital malformation in the caudal cervical spine, effecting C/6 and C/7 cervical vertebra, even it also involves the first and second ribs, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae. The consequences of ECVM can vary - from minor to quite extensive. Tripping is quite common in horses with ECVM because they find it hard to lift through the thoracic sling. Therefore they are traveling on their forehand which makes it easy to trip. As you know, such horses aren’t safe to ride. If they are otherwise comfortable, exercising with a program that strengthens the thoracic sling (the chest and shoulders) will help him lift and carry himself and stop the tripping. I went through this with a horse of mine so I can tell you it does work. But you must find a trainer who can help you work with him because it’s a long road and takes patience and dedication. Here are a few links for information regarding ECVM. www.ecvmallbreeds.com/wat-is-ecvm Science Of Motion®,Jean Luc Cornille was a member of Cadre Noir de Saumur,now updating equine biomechanics with advanced applied science. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Szk4oSp_Rd4.htmlsi=rnzZHv1I04V41ajN And I highly recommend this Facebook group m.facebook.com/groups/250441277886069/?ref=share Lastly, so I’m not accused of shouting fire in a crowded theater, your horse’s problems may have nothing to do with ECVM. But it’s worth looking into, educating yourself. The frustrations you’re experiencing are familiar, many others have traveled that road. Ask me how I know.

Mane will grow just fine. Some people start braiding their mane so that you get it to lay flat on just one side so when you figure out which side it seems to naturally lay on its own, you can always start doing that so that it grows just on one side. I am curious why the vet and farrier have the pads off his feet? Are they just trying to see what he’s like without any pads? Sending strength your way and thanks for caring for Black Jack the way that you do. He is gorgeous!

When you board a horse you have no idea how they are treated when you’re not there I sent my horse to a trainer and when I got him back he would run to the back wall of his stall when I opened his door found out later that an employee at the trainer’s had been caught poking him in his side with a pitchfork when he went in to clean his stall he was a lot like your horse very quiet and kind no reason to poke him but he never got over that and it broke my heart to see the worry and fear in his eyes every time I approached him you may think that you are at a top notched boarding facility and everything is done right but when you see a change in your horse behavior something’s going on

You are not the only one.. all what I can say is keep doing what you do. Sometime you plan for something and end up doing something else. God gave you this mission to help someone, like this poor animal.. just because he needed this care to get back to his condition.. always be proud of what you do and never give up, no matter what others are saying to you to sell or if you did a wrong decision when buying him. Never care! I’m saying this because I was going through this, and still.. bought a good horse breed for jump and suddenly he has been lame, most of the time. It’s been two years since I had him, he had an ongoing lameness, you solve one part next day you find another issue. You ride for a week or month then give him a recovery rest for two months.. countless of spend, efforts, and time are put.. I said to myself I will walk all the way with this horse.. The positive side of this, is you are learning. Horse keeping is not just riding, it’s care at first point .. what you give to the horse you will get back.. learning from the different issues you face with the horse is teaching you something new everyday.. all aspects of the horse keeping, nutrition, using the right tack, body language, basic horse care and treatment of minor injuries.. We put plans and think they are the best, but always remember God is putting the best plan for you, just keep believing in this all the time 🙏🏽

BJ is a handfull ! I see he is stepping firm when standing with both front legs! Keep him in a diet! I would take the two front shoes off Just to see the reaction when he movés on a Hard surface, in the stall is ok and on the round pen. The problem of BJ is more on the right shoulder and the right side of his neck. He is UNCOORDINATED, this means that he has a muscle cramp in his right side where I told you. How to make him good. I'm so sorry you are going through so much with your beautiful Black Jack... I'm also glad that you are sharing your story about everything that is going on with your new boy! With all of the knowledge of all of us horse people everywhere, I'm sure you will get great advice from horse owners that have been through similar situations. Believe it or not sometimes veterinarians miss some things. It has happened to me as a horse/trainer owner. So all ears and eyes are always a good thing. My first thought is Black Jack is not considered an old horse, he should have many, many years of riding in him. Many horses that compete in high level jumping are at their best at these years and beyond. I guess what I'm trying to tell you is, don't give up. You are doing the right steps. You can never go wrong with stall rest with hand walking as long as the horse can tolerate this. Some horse have a hard time with this. Just remember horses are built to roam and move. Plus the more hand walking will help with circulation blood flow is better for healing. I always hand walk 3x's a day. Time is on your side, enjoy these moments with him as you two bond. Horses are a great therapy, stress relief and more! Thanks for sharing! God bless.....😊

@@HorseTaleswithBlackJack I would say check with your vet about how long you should hand walk him; we started at 5 min the first month, then 10 min, now at 15 min. But he gets about an hour of hand grazing on top of that
@HorseTaleswithBlackJack
@HorseTaleswithBlackJack 4 дня назад
@@PersonalTriumph2022 Thank you, that's good to know. I need to call the vet anyway to get an MRI referral, so I'll ask for some more specifics around his walking.
@Nickysmom
@Nickysmom 4 дня назад
I hope you find an answer so you won’t be keeping him in his stall for too long. Horses need to be walking around and grazing, being on stall rest is extreme both for bod and psyche. Could he not go out in a smaller paddock with just one horse? Being confined is very stressful for a horse, they are animals who need to be moving and it is good for them to be able to decide where to put his feet rather than stall confinement and hand walking. Twenty three hours of unnatural confinement is a very extreme solution for tripping. Please read up on horse behavior and what they need. When I first got interested in horses I kept mine at boarding barns with the usual day or night turnout and that arrangement is practical and convenient for us, not for the horse. It took me 20 years until I managed to organize a situation where they had access to both their stalls and pasture at any time, they were free to choose. I only put them in their stalls for their meals, bad weather or heat. In extreme cases it may be necessary to put them on stall rest but it would have to be an absolute necessity recommended by a vet for specific reason. I don’t mean to appear to preach but it took me a long time of learning about horses to know this about them and just want to give you the benefit of my experience. It is no small thing for a horse to be confined.
@HorseTaleswithBlackJack
@HorseTaleswithBlackJack 4 дня назад
It's not the tripping necessarily, but the severe soft tissue injury we're trying to heal. I understand completely about horses needed to be out and moving, which is also why I actually prefer pasture boarding rather than stall boarding. However, the vet had recommended Black Jack have access to the pasture ONLY if he was quiet and he shows improvement. This is a short term fix only; his vet check is coming up soon.
