the internet would try to have me believe that Liberty is like the worst place to go to college, but videos like this coupled with my friends being there just makes me want to go more. Seems like the average issues that a college will face.
I’m starting at LU fall of 2025 and majoring in criminal justice. You said for government students I’ll be dressing up all the time? Are you able to elaborate at all?
My son is 22 and it was super easy for him to live off campus. It's one form online, and he got a response in less than 24 hours approving him living off campus. The rules are simple... You either have to be 21 or older, or you have to be living with parents (guardians) or a sibling that is 21 or older. Wal-Mart, Sam's and a shopping mall (a small one) are less than 5 minutes from campus. I did it today. In fact, I told my kids to drive the 5 minutes to Sam's (we got them a card) for snacks ($1.25 pretzel, pizza, etc...) instead of buying stuff on campus that runs a whole lot more than that. Yes, it is a 5 minute drive (if that), but for students that have a car, that's easy. Liberty has an amazing commuter lounge in the Green Hall (if you can find it), plus decently affordable apartments within easy driving distance for commuter students. The town has most of the stores a person would want (unless your looking for super high end stores) and everything is within an easy driving distance. People on campus are super friendly, and helpful. My kids noticed that very quickly, everywhere we went, we had people ask if we needed help. I currently have two students going to Liberty, both commuter students, and a third child joining them in the Spring. We might be fans. It helps that I graduated from LU myself. I started out at a very small Christian college that was tiny in comparison. Liberty is not tiny. There is a reason that they have buses that are free for students to ride on to get them around the campus. My son initially thought his classes would be close to his sister's classes until we toured where their classes would be. Nope, not close. There is a reason parking is an issue at Liberty, and a reason all the students cheered when it was announced that they were adding another parking garage to the campus. (The new one will be the third on campus.)
I think one of the two things that make me hesitate to consider LU is the Alcohol Policy since id being coming in as a 24 year old Veteran along with the fact that im Orthodox.
To be clear 1. I understand not drinking on campus but just wondering how far this policy reaches. 2. If there's an Orthodox Church nearby and if I am required to attend services ran by LU to graduate.
Definitely makes sense why you'd hesitate. The alcohol policy is on paper far-reaching and technically extends to however long you are a student at Liberty. Doesn't mean people don't break it all the time off campus, but that's what it technically is. I'm sure there is an Orthodox church there but I don't know it off the top of my head -- you are NOT required to go to ANY church service though. Chances are if you are at Liberty, that's somewhat important to you but Liberty does not require it whatsoever
I enjoyed your video! I'm not planning to apply or to attend there; my "connection" to LU is that a friend of mine, whose PhD program overlapped with mine, is a professor there. Something I wonder about LU is to what extent Christianity is interpreted as "Christian Nationalism" by the faculty and students?
Completely depends on the student or faculty. I saw if some for sure but it wasn't the majority opinion. I have no idea the stats but I'd assume maybe 15% of faculty and students might lean that way -- that's just a guess from what I expereinced.
Take a look at some of the other videos that you think might be applicable but really just whatever you put into building community is how much you're going to get out. Parking is parking so fair warning about that
@@realgrahamholliday thanks I'm super excited to go to liberty for commercial music performance and entrepreneurship i can't wait to get to work thanks graham hopefully i meet you once i become a flame
