For those in the future researching catcher's mitt padding. The base layer for the felt is F-1 or F-3 industrial felt. F-1 felt is firmer than F-3. 1/4 inch. Choosing the base felt is based on catcher preference based on how soft they want the glove. The side padding layers are sandwiched between the base layer with F-26 industrial felt (1/4 depending on glove) in between, with a smaller F-1(3) felt on top, (1/4 inch)
That turned out great! I hope your father-in-law appreciated all the time and effort you put into the restoration. Thanks for sharing your process and info!
Good video! Do you have any tips for getting Sharpie marker off of a glove? I bought my son a very nice used glove but the previous owner wrote their name and number on it and I am trying to do some research on how to remove before I attempt to. Thanks
: I have one of those exact Johnny Bench glove. I took it out of my equipment bag and it was in very good condition. I know when I purchased my gloves new I always use glove conditioner on them prior to using them. I am sure that's why this glove and the rest of my gloves are in very good condition today. These gloves are almost 50 years old. Outstanding info video. ⚾️ 👍 😀
Looks fantastic man, but I'd like to hear, see and be able to follow your instructions. I have the same Johnny Bench glove that you had on the video. I am not having much luck with your video because of the fast forwarding, no matter how many times I watch it.
This was very difficult to follow. With the video speeded up and with the lacing process either off camera or blocked by the hands/arms of the lacer, and without comment about what was being done, the video was of little use to me.
I loved this series and also why you did this for your father in law! I thought of you when I saw an auction on eBay for a Wing tip HOH Johnny Bench catchers glove that’s available. It looks like it’s in good condition but the web lacing was replaced and looks wrong-pretty easy repair. I’m not the seller. The auction number is 183802894384. The auction is titled, “Rawlings Heart of the Hide Catchers Glove Mitt Used Gold Glove Series Tan”. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F183802894384 Hope both you and your father in law are well!
Would have better to wait for a RL-1, or RL. they are HOH. RL 10 is not. RL 10 is desent. But at the bottom of RL line. They are also plain HOH. In my book it needs to be HOH as far as Rawilings is concern.
Old school grommets are hard to lace, but I did a newer style glove and was actually reminded how the grommets actually do make the holes more durable. In the newer glove, without the grommets, many of the lacing holes were tearing - so much so that I had to reinforce and repair the holes by sewing them.
Why do baseball glove cleaning videos have music in the background? That sure is irritating. If you make an informative video, you don't need music in the background. Thanks
@@yhp99 I apologize for being a "tough customer", but we want to hear you and not the music. What you have to say is important and good and useful, but the music isn't so important. So, I apologize if I was being a tough customer, but I'd really rather just hear you. Thank you.
@@Beautifulmusiclistnr I did not make this video. Im an audience member just like you. The background music did not bother me because the content was superb. Didnt really feel like it deserved such negative feedback but to each his own
A big thank you to Andrew for this incredible gift! It took over 40 years to get and believe me, it was worth the wait. You will better understand once you see the mitt after its restored. So, watch the entire series. Andrew "Dozo" is an artist!
