This channel is primarily a means for me to share and archive video clips from concerts, shows and various events that I attend. At concerts I try to record entire songs as much as possible, but I'm generally limited by common obstacles such as my location in the venue, people bumping into me, unfriendly security personnel and lack of a good camera (currently using a smart phone). Most importantly, I attempt not to distract other folks when I'm recording. Feel free to send along any positive or otherwise constructive comments. Also, if you are enjoying my videos (which I hope you are), please support these and all artists by going out to see them when you have the chance. Live music is the best! Thanks for watching.
One more thing: if you are an artist, or represent an artist, and wish me to remove a video from my You Tube page, just ask (email below) and I will. There's no need to issue me copyright demerits! Thank you!
IMO David Murray is very overrated player,I've caught him live and on records since the early 80's. His Paul Gonsalves tribute concert in Boston 20 years ago was a joke. His abililites certainly don't merit him having one of the largest recorded outputs of any Jazz artist of the last couple of decades. A media darling early on when over-hyping new young saxophonists as the 2nd coming of Trane was commonplace. As a player he is not even close a Gary Thomas, Branford, Potter. When the critics would place a Chico Freeman or Murray above a Brecker in the Down Beat polls I'd just sit back and say WHAT!!!
I'm not big on COMPARING players. I go see the folks whose music moves me. Murray's does that. Thanks for your comment. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.
I saw these fellows last night in Albany. It was an absolutely amazing performance!!! If you have the chance do not miss these incredible performers!! They are so fine!!
Do these guys still have the same name? I asked them for a card and I lost it but I do not remember that card having this name on it… how can I get a hold of them?
@teresamarquina246 good questions, I'm not sure! I think I saw that name inside their tips bucket this year but can't recall. As for contacting them, you might just need to wait til next summer and find them on the boards?
@leh3827 Kofi Baker son of Ginger Baker on drums and Malcolm Bruce son of Jack Bruce on bass. Unsure about the Eric Clapton clone (Rob Johnson?) and keyboard player (Bob Shaw?).
Jerry and the guys are smiling , I'm sure ! Let us always always remember the emotional power of the Grateful Dead. When you have jazz artists appreciating the music, something is working. Very special.....
@davidrosner3799 you're very welcome! And thanks for the comment! Yes they are one of the all time best imo! Love sharing this stuff :) rock on, David!
Great guitarist, interesting to hear him play this style of music. I have heard his playing over the years. Interesting he was have issues with those high notes starting around 1:44. He has trouble getting a tone and also plays a couple of sour notes. It's hard to say what's causing it. It's either the frets are just too close high on the neck to get a simple lyrical flow and sustain with that tap technique or he was have some physical issues on his hands. And guitar volume too low, not enough gain. I think a volume pedal would work on this where he could extend the sustain on those high notes. Basically he is trying to do too much in the solo, this style requires simplicity and sustained notes. There is a nice bass solo on this. Drummer was doing Benson style scatting. I don't think the swing of it worked over the hard back beat he was playing. Ironically he was playing swinging style on the rest of the song when he was not vocalizing.
I have seen him live several times . First around 1980 , busking in front of the library at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in NYC at lunchtime ! Great musician !
Busking in front of the Student Union in 1980-81 in Madison, Wisconsin. Stanley has paid his dues, and always brought amazing talent. Buy his merch. Buy the ticket. Buy his music. Support the band!
True. I do NOT play guitar anywhere near the level of Stanley Jordan. However, I DO also prefer to play barefoot. So, I guess I’ve got that! 🙏🏽✌🏽💙 from Minnesota
I’ve seen him do that before…it’s weird…he was supposed to play with Maceo Parker one time at GOV…I was in audience…and he kept messing around with equipment.. Maceo was very pissed…
Also if ya dig and enjoyed this song 😀 you may also enjoy the song " Most of All " By Glenn Kaiser and Where Roses Grow Live by Rez Band Awesome songs check them out. Also I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. Hey Jesus loves each of you also and yall can know Him if you are at all open. Just cry out to Him and a good question to ask yourself if you were to die today would you go to heaven ? And if yes why ? To find out more please read the Gospel of John in the Bible or check out the movie on RU-vid. 😀
