Hello, may I ask: Is this pen show mostly vintage pens? Do you think there is any chance I could try out some more common current Japanese models at the next one this year?
I generally don't let heat guns get near my vintage pen repairs. I start with soaking in 140 degree water for hour or so. This usually works. Thanks for sharing
As usual, a great barometer of our pen world. This new show obviously has plenty of positive energy, gratefulness from vendors to have a venue in this sunny place and all. But while you keep pronouncing fabulous show, well organized and all, what about the traffic you need to feed those sellers? I've never seen a large venue like this with so few customers. To me at least, it's like a ghost town. Boris, Stan and Chris offered something that drew in the masses. Every show. Does this new venue do this?
Always a treat to have a video from you You are the only one to capture the essence of our beloved pen gatherings. But oh my, how things have slowed down. I've never seen such a slow show with minimal attendance and everyone looking like a pregnant and disabled Joe Biden. Participants you say hello to even mimic old Joe with either a no answer or pithy slurred voices (other then one RHode Island legend in his own mind, who comes across as manic, which is nice to see mind you). The movement in the main ballroom resembles a marshmallow rolling off a table in slow motion. Where has the energy gone? Where has the buzz gone?
I was at this year's Ohio Pen Show, and it is fantastic. So many exhibitors! If you are looking for something or need a pen worked on, it is quite likely that you will be successful here. I was looking for a 1987 Parker Duofold in Blue Marble finish, and I found it for an excellent price. I also found a Bexley Imperial made out of the same acrylic! (Thank you Howard Levy!) I was also able to get my Parker Vacumatic fixed by Ron Zorn. And I was able to get another nib for my Edison pens. (Thank you Brian Gray!) Terry Mawhorter got it right when he said that the Ohio Pen Show is bigger than it ought to be.
Is it possible to test write some pens here sir? I’m thinking of going and I really want to get a pilot Falcon sf or sef, but I haven’t tried anything with a gold tip yet.
For anyone who has ever attended a pen show and can no longer make the cirsuit, thank god we have such a friendly and informative free visual overview by Penkala Pens. If only there were more friendly collector like him the world would be a better place. Well done, and how I miss the scene..=stephen overbury
