Kinda surprising to see after a month of me being a slave at work, there's no comments. Gonna watch a few of these tonight and vegetate. I hope things are going well for you.
And here's my first contribution. Portable miners are handy at the beginning of the game. Place multiples down on the node, so when you go to collect they are all full.
Good point. I do not anticipate needing them long, so I started with just what I needed at the moment. We will see if that turns out a wise choice, or whether I should have put more down.
You just met my man 😊 And yes, lecidr means the cider. Anyway, thanks for the video, it was fun to watch 👍 Big up to Two Old Men from an old man and an old woman ! Le Cidr apologizes for his poor English (so he says). The Groulala clan send their thanks for the tour and the recommendation 😊
So glad to hear from you, and that you found us!! Lecidr's build (likely the whole clan) was so enjoyable. Having taken the "nickel tour", I may need to plan a trip for the full tour, maybe with audio for real-time commentary.
It is 3rd person only, though they have good job of keeping the camera perspective off your right shoulder. The only time I notice an issue, is when building, and at those times there are ways to force a 1st person perspective.
Glad you found it! Though I believe I linked the URL to their website in the description of the videos, and the playlist. =0) You are welcome to travel over here and share a meal with me.
For those who are true "Sandboxers", it is a very familiar and desirable experience. For those more familiar with traditional MMO and/or Open World games, I am sure it feels like a nearly unbearable grind.
Super fun experience to have Uncle Craig and Paul come see my island build. Would recommend anyone to have them come visit your builds. Was a great social experience and made the PaxDei world seem a lot smaller than it was.
I started playing Pax Dei about two weeks ago, and after watching a few of your vids I realized I set up shop in the same province as you! 😂 Your vids are fun, thanks for posting!!!
So, you are on the AsiaPac server? If you are in the Pax Dei Discord server, send me a message, and I can make a Social Call (let me know if you have trouble connecting with me there in Discord). Glad you are enjoying the videos; nice to have you along.
I believe there are five NA East servers. Do you know which one you are on? You will see it on the 'Character Selection' screen. I have a character on each of the NA servers, except the RP server.
That was easy! Better for you not to get started. =0) Kidding aside, keep in mind this series is intentionally played establishing a plot, which is required in order to enjoy all the "Sandbox" elements of the game. The structures you see in the game are built and developed by individuals and clans truly enjoying the game. Our other series' include establishing and building in a plot, and enjoying the game experience with other players.
If you are a Sandboxer, you will enjoy it whether you are with a clan, or solo. Mainframe provides great support both in-game and in Discord for looking into various clans -- they range from a handful of folks to around a hundred. Folks in Pax Dei right now are very supportive. In my opinion, it is worth trying out.
HEY!! You are MORE than welcome to join us. There is still space on this mountain. =0) We are on a cliff top, North of "Bear Lake" in the Langres Home Valley, the Inis Gallia Province, on the Selene Shard.
Wow! I didn't see that coming...LOL. I appreciate the idea. That would be a separate series. There is an identified "end" to the Base Building series. At that time I'll need to make a decision where to go from there.
I have been programming for 47 years. Back when I started we tested on possible failure points. Then some idiot thought we could have 100% percent testing. Which is fine when death is involved or something involved with money ie banking or the stock market. Missle tracking or NASA. The problem as I see it programs require rules for processes. But the business tends to have best practices so we write these one size fits all solutions that die on the vine from scope creep. All the big boys have rewritten from the ground up at least once Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft products, Netflix to name a few. It isn't the software that's the issue it is the rapidly changing business that is. With upper management afraid of losing their job for pointing out maybe we need to rewrite it from the ground up so they wait until the cost of such projects are the GDP of a smallish county. Look at the money they have thrown at OpenAI or Meta 10s of billions and both are non starters if you have been in the industry for a hot minute. It is going to be another .com bubble crash. The programmers churned out today making the mistakes we stopped doing 30 years ago... Such as updating a 15 yo project external dependencies and caught in hell for the next 9 months to a year. If you even suggest that the performance of the code they write is subpar is akin to screaming out cuss words in church. So of course web based apps are going to fail even when you do throw billions at it. Every single layer is outdated or over engineered and that simply isn't a testing issue. It lack of experience.
Thank you for your feedback -- nice to have you along. Initially I kept them to less than 15 minutes due to restrictions of YT. Even though I could now make them longer, I have made an effort to keep them short. I may do another poll. If folks prefer longer videos, I can certainly accommodate that.
@@twooldguyz The nice thing is - - you can now stream on YT so can make vids any length you want. You may want to check it out and play around with it. No editing either.
@@elizabethgoldenflower7130 Ya, I noticed that. Streaming IS in our future (short as our future may be), but not our focus yet. So far the votes are in favor of keeping the brief episodes, but I am keeping an eye on votes coming in.
@JamesClemmons-h5y Our home server is Selene, but the is an Unclecraig on each US server, one on the EU RP server, and one on the AsiaPac server. Where are you?
While this is contentious, I believe these are issues that need figured out, and now is the right time. When plots are tied to a subscription they will need to be handled appropriately. Great discussion.
I got to thinking about your point that, "when plots are tied to a subscription they will need to be handled appropriately" (BTW: I do like your input on this topic -- it made me re-evaluate my perspective). The number of plots I have available for placement is tied to a subscription. The location of my placed plot and how much is built in that plot is NOT tied to a subscription. Pax Dei isn't reducing someone's "number of plots available for placement"; they are removing plots which have -- for all intents and purposes -- been abandoned. So, I personally remove the whole "plot by subscription" argument from most discussion.
@@twooldguyz Absolutely! I do agree with your point that especially right now, no need to be so stingy on clearing space for others. I think we all want engaged players to be poking holes in the game to make it better. I come from a traditional MMO background, but am embracing the sandbox/survival elements.
I don't think this is because of performance issues. Unlike space engineers they have a different way of handling performance by carving up the entire world into smaller servers. The problem is this. My world is marked as high/full yet not a single soul is playing i am always alone while having all kinds of player buildings around me. New players can't find a spot anymore since most servers as simply considered full. So players who actually want to play can't because of players not playing. Yes they could add more servers but why would you do that when your existing servers are empty? The people who are complaining are also the people who aren't playing. In other words those players themselves are the cause of this. So if there's anything they should be complaining about it is themselves.
Again, well said. Maybe I should have had you folks record this video for me. =0) Though "performance" is used in my reasoning for a Sandboxer's perspective of "clean-up", I agree with your description of the Pax Dei issues. I think if folks are willing and able to evaluate Mainframe's decisions from a Sandboxer's perspective, they will experience these things differently, and there will be better informed and more constructive criticism provided.
@@twooldguyz ow you're not wrong in ways to manage those type of servers like space engineers and most of the sandbox games. And yes most people look at it from the wrong perspective so i fully agree with your overall message. The only thing here is that i think the management is not due to performance but empty servers. And like you said early access is for a reason and that reason is not to have empty servers.
I guess I'm responding not so much to Pax Dei's reasoning, but hitting head on the reasoning of content creators. You seem like 'Two Old Guys' folk. ;0)
Say, if you mean gather as much of the rare resources as we can as quickly as we can, that isn't a bad idea. We're usually in-game after about 2 PM Pacific (5 PM Eastern). Maybe we could schedule some runs. Are you in the Pax Dei Discord server?
Well...originally, it was due to lack of updated mods for the latest version (at the time I started the series). I also chose to highlight a different modpack for each series. Maybe I'll ask for a vote over the next couple videos, and have folks comment whether we should continue with 1.20.4, or switch to another MC version and/or modpack. I'm really up for anything regarding this series.
I was thinking of playing this with my wife. I’ve read it takes a village of people to successfully do this game is that true? I just want to play with my wife. Is it also possible to mostly avoid pvp? At least minimize it? Lastly can people attack your base? Thanks!
@danecory1236 I think you've already made your choice. =0) OK, answers: - Our clan, 'Two Old Guys', has been four players since launch of Early Release. We have other members, but we have been the most consistent. So, NO, it doesn't take a "village", but playing with others does help. - You can completely avoid PvP -- that is ONLY in a specific map of the Shard. The resources available in the PvP map are available elsewhere, just far more rare (FAR more rare) than in that map. - The areas of the Shard in which building is possible are 'Home Valleys', which are PvE ONLY, and you designate who has access to your plots I hope you do join the game. If you do so on the 'Selene' Shard, Inis Gallia Province, Langres Home Valley, look up the Two Old Guys. We'll lend you a hand whether you join our clan, or not.
@@twooldguyz Oh just needed to ask, that's all! And I used to play Minecraft back in the days as a speedrunner, But I had quit playing it now since it doesn't interest me anymore, but still interest me by watching
@@twooldguyz And you could also try to start another server that might be for speedrunning, so that one of you become a speedrunner while the other person will try to stop you from beating the game
Iron Bank is an amazing group of people to play with if you ever want to clan up. All very respectful of each other and everyone helps each other out like a true village.
