prices aside, the quality has decreased so much in the last decade it is sad, I have knock-offs from 20 years ago snapping better and heftier than Lego today
LEGO FOMO is so funny. Sets stay on the shelves for 1.5 years. It's not going anywhere for a year. There WILL be a sale on it before it's gone. And yes, life will go on without a few more sets or minifigs in your collection.
It is interesting that we can become so focused on regretting what we are missing that we completely forget to enjoy what we have. Thanks for watching!
10s across the board, as per usual! People treat FOMO as if it’s Chemo. I’m a big proponent of dividing into reasonable vs unreasonable. If something sells out day/week/month one, then it’s reasonable for TLG to charge that price. If you’re buying something on day 1, it’s unreasonable to complain about the price. Simple stuff! And I can verify, you were not the only human who’s had to go without. I learned as a kid that I wouldn’t have enough money for all the toys I wanted, it’s disheartening that a lot of folks managed to get to adulthood without learning that lesson.
@@waltherltdI mean marketing these days has turned into a constantly bombarded message of “you exist so you deserve our non-essential thing as validation,” is it any wonder people are conditioned to think that way?
Great Video! I’m happy to see you finally posted another because I’ve missed your Content! I’ll be honest, the only Sets I buy on Day 1 are Cheap Sets (roughly $20 and under) and there are a lot of Sets I’ve had to miss out on, including my two White Whale Sets, Barracuda Bay and the LEGO Ninjago Legacy Destiny’s Bounty!
Thanks, this summer has been super busy. I totally understand missing stuff, there is a lot I wish I could have gotten along the way but ultimately it hasn't changed my life in a negative way to go without some wants.
Was at a Lego store today and they had multiple masonry colors on the PAB wall (including 1x2 light gray, which I had never found any of that type there until today!). One of the clerks said they had just restocked those yesterday. He also mentioned about how they don't really mind overfilling them some because they have tape/stickers to keep them shut, and how "time is valuable" (meaning if can overfill it some, you can get closer to about what you would with spending time stacking it perfectly to get it closed well). I did spend some time stacking 2 large boxes but then was getting a little hungry and tired (after running around earlier in the day) and so decided to just grab a bunch more loose ones to fill a 3rd box.
It is great when you find good parts on the wall. There are certainly times when stacking is worth it, others time is more valuable than money. Thanks for watching!
yeah, a lot of times there's only like 1 or 2 type of parts I may want to get, but it's not enough to want to try to get even a small box of just that. Then there's other times like today where I found 3 different color masonry bricks in a couple different sizes that can make it worth getting multiple boxes (if they have enough parts left to fill boxes). Depends on what you're looking for, but some of the popular stuff goes pretty fast!
The actual suitcase with stickers on it is from 76007 Iron Man: Malibu Mansion Attack. The Mark 5 minifigure came in 76125 Iron Man Hall of Armor. Thanks for watching!
I never had LEGOs as a kid, so I am starting my LEGO journey now in my 30s. So far I got: - The LOTR Rivendell set - The Home Alone house - The Tallneck (from the Horizon Zero Dawn game) - The Office from… The Office - The Atreides Ornithopter from Dune And one of those plastic storage bins full of random pieces collected from thrift stores Your collection is amazing though!
My goal is to get all the iron man figures yes even the toy fair one then display them all in a giant hall of armor moc. So far from the iron legion i'm missing mark 33, mark 37, mark 39, and mark 42
One of the main things for me while visiting a Lego store is filling out a box. I love to stack these, it is like a puzzle and I simply think it is lots of fun. Just thinking about what you are going to use them for is a very good delayed gratification treat. I think it is a good time spend. It feels pretty zen to stack bricks, even if it is just to fill out a cardboard box. We need more slow things in life, to lessen the strain on our brains from all the devices, the work and the stress we experience day to day. I don't think there is anything wrong with simply piling stuff into boxes, but for me this stacking thing is just a joy and you get rewarded with not just a bunch of great looking shiny new bricks, but also about 30% more value.
I also found today when stacking a box full of masonry bricks, that they had some 1x4 tile pieces also on the wall. By using those to cap off the top row of studs, essentially got those "for free" as well. It's nice when you can find other ways to even further optimize your stacking with small/complimentary pieces to fill in gaps, etc.
Let me first say I am part of the Lego starwars community and it’s my favorite theme but some of the people in the starwars community are hall of fame complainers all they do is bitch about sets and are always extremely negative. This is mainly a product of big RU-vidrs like mandr brainwashing their young audience by constantly reminiscing on old nostalgic sets and bashing the new sets for minor little things. Starwars is still the cream of the crop and is trending up I get having preferences on how things are done but the amount of backlash about minuscule details just makes me embarrassed to be apart of the starwars community sometimes. Great video showing this 👍
I've bought a bunch of Dreamz sets. Was worth waiting till they dropped down in price in the sales. The Space Bus and Shark Ship are awesome. Was able to fill up the Shark Ship with extra nightmare creatures from buying other sets.
Agreed both of those sets are super fun! I am with you on waiting for the prices to drop, there is rarely a good reason to pay full price. Thanks for watching.
@@waltherltd I saved $100 on the Shark Ship and $50 on the Space Bus. As well as a bunch of the others on sale prices. Waited for Grim Keeper to go on clearance and got him really cheap.
A pleasure watching this video and seeing your LEGO room layout. I am also trying hard not to laugh during the video at the boom, boom, boom of footsteps running up or down the stairs. You have excellent focus skills. Great Bloopers reel. Keep up the great work.
Welcome James! As a fellow Veteran, Parent and AFOL you have joined a fabulous community. I found you today during a live stream that Brick Hive does every Sunday called Good Morning Brick World. He shared your In Memoriam: A Tribute in LEGO for this Memorial Day 2024. I see that you have already accumulated 24 videos over the last 6 months which is wonderful and I hope to see them all over the coming days. Best wishes to you and the channel. Odie
I appreciate what you said in the video, but please stop using those transitions and weird camera angle, they genuinely don’t add anything to the video and get annoying
Isn't it great that we can like different things? Also yes, if you build MOCs that require different colors, the Dreamzzz sets are a gold mine. Thanks for watching.
The moulds Lego have made for Dreamzzz are insane, and the sets are so creative! I feel like Star Wars is stuck in the remake phase and it’s so grey overall it’s hard to be toooooo inspiring
I agree, Dreamzzz is amazing as far as the parts and design go. Unfortunately for Star Wars they are stuck in the IP box. Not only that, fan expectations make that box even more confining. Thanks for watching!
I’d love to see a video with your take on the oft discussed “decline in quality” of Lego pieces, whether it is cracking pieces, mould marks, color inconsistency, etc. is it a real problem or does it just seem that way?
For me, dreamzzz is a case of quality over quantity. Yes, the numbers are lower but some of the minifigs are insanely good. Like the Nightmare Shark ship is completely stacked. Izzie and Mateo both have cloth accessories, both have dual molded legs and full prints (aside from arms), dual face printing, and really cool accessories. A similar story is seen in the nightmare king. Three unique figs that are at least 9/10 for me. Also worth mentioning that, on a quick count, Star Wars got 25 sets with minifigs versus dreamzzz, which got 11 (excluding polybags and any weird promos/regional items) I like both themes, though, and really want dreamzzz to succeed as i think the sets are pretty much excellent all around
Definitely agree on the quality vs. quantity. There is definitely a difference in design philosophy between the Ninjago and Dreamzzz themes versus SW, Marvel, etc. Ninjago gets about 3-4 new villain figures each year but every single one of them is typically a banger. Same seems to be true of the Dreamzzz minifigs.
If it is real I do not care if it is stolen or not. It is good that this stuff is on the market so there is more stuff for Lego enthusiasts to collect. I'm perfectly fine with buying goods from FBM that may have been immorally obtained if it means I can get a good discount.
@@charliestephens4686 No. I have bought some sets at a hefty discount (likely stolen) from FBM. All I care about is the price, not the ethics. As for stolen test minifigures, Lego should auction these off if they want to curb this market. I don't see anything wrong with buying selling this stuff. Besides, these test figures will just be tossed in the bin. 1 more thing for enthusiasts to collect is always good.
Lego is a 13 billion dollar company and, like all companies, have a margin for loss baked into their finances. They expect items to be stolen, that just happens. They have also seen constant growth and make more and more money year on year, yet they are still upping their prices. I've never stolen a figure, nor do I necessarily condone doing so, but claiming that people stealing cheap figures is hurting anyone is just not the case. Lego don't care, they're gonna keep charging you extra for their own benefit for as long as they can get away with it regardless.
You are correct and it made my own point, they bake a loss margin into their finances! The more theft happens, the larger that margin has to be. Theft from the factory has become larger scale over the last decade, which is costing the company more, retail theft is also up. This means they have to charge more to hit their profitability goals. After making the point that they take theft into account as a cost, but then claiming it isn't hurting anyone are contradictory claims. Your second point is also true, LEGO will charge what the market will bear. Inflation has drastically increased the cost of resources to manufacture LEGO parts in the past several years as well. There are many factors that play into price increases, they aren't mutually exclusive. LEGO hasn't been able to shut down the theft at their Mexico facility. It would not surprise me to see the Mexico factory close once the new factory in Virginia opens.
watched all the way through, still dont actually know what this is about. its so cryptic? is there something about the rainbow background that tells you somethings stolen? they just look like lego figurines to me
Nothing to do with the background. The transparent clone trooper/Darth Vader figures are not ones that LEGO has ever produced for sale. They are being made illicitly and are being fenced to sellers on whatnot, ebay, etc. They are just an example though, a bunch of Captain Rex figures were also stolen last year and started selling before the Venator had even released.
Thanks for watching. These stolen items (including all the Captain Rex figures that appeared before the Venator even released) cost the company money. They pay for the plastic, the wear on their machinery and molds, and likely the wages of the people stealing them as well. If they are paying out that money, but getting no return on the resources because they are stolen, that goes against the LEGO Group's bottom line. The more items are stolen the more it hurts the company and the more prices go up to compensate for the losses. Plus, in the case of Rex, each stolen fig that sells directly influenced sales of the UCS Venator. Even if the customer for the stolen figure wasn't going to buy the Venator themselves, a person selling legitimate figures would have needed to buy the set to take the minifig from, this theft directly affects sales. This is by far not the only thing that influences price increases, but it is a factor. Theft absolutely affects company profitability, which in turn influences prices.
@@waltherltd they are indeed stolen items, workers took the Lego company's materials and partly wore down their molds, that is pretty objective and true, i would be shocked if anyone tried to contest that much. However im gonna need an official statement from the Lego company saying that this is somehow affecting the sales of their sets. these sellers are selling items that literally don't exist in any set, its the same mold, but a different color, that is a different part at the point. No one is buying up a light blue trans clear Captain Rex in place of any of the actual Captain Rex figures. if someone thinks spending 50-100 dollars on one of these guys is worth it then i would even say they are more likely to be buying the expensive Lego sets, if thats really the kind of disposable income they are working with.
Thanks for watching. The transparent figures are just one facet. I used the transparent figures as an example because it is obvious those are not regular production figures. Like I mentioned, the Captain Rex figures were the normal production version [not transparent] they were the fully printed minifigures from the Venator, the only difference was the lack of the pauldron. So yes, these figures being stolen and resold directly impacted the sale of the UCS Venator. It would not surprise me if the release of the microfighter including Rex coming up was partially in response to the theft of these minifigures.
I had no issue with music, but there was a short part in the video at 6:49, where the voice was doubled. (maybe the stereo didn't sync up, I'm not an audio expert) It didn't take anything away from the video, but I just wanted to point that out.
It needed to be said! I also don’t see much of the appeal here, personally the collecting only has value if the rarity can be known. A minifig that was only in one set? Sure, that could be rare. A transparent or glow-in-the-dark minifig that’s never been in anything? Practically worthless, given that it’s much more likely that the fig is coming from a copycat
Me waiting for a used deal of the 42009 Technic p.u. mobile crane :( Me finding out they will release a 110€ "60%-functional" Lego City mobile crane (60409): O.O <3
I think people just like the adult oriented big sets and they don’t do as many small scale sets with the same design philosophies. They definitely have gotten better this year though
