There is no equivalent word for Shiritori in English! But there seems to be the same game in the English speakers’ culture?? Anyways, Let’s start the shiritori limited in words of recreations or sports! Me first, After “shiritori”, “i”... i... i.. “Indian porker”
In Japan, 8 is a lucky number. It's not because it's similar to the mathematical symbol of infinity. It's because of the shape of Kanji, I've heard. The kanji, '八', is '末広がり', means that it's broad (good) at the ending. By the way, my son says the number, 666, is an unlucky, or even evil!
@@nogoro180 I love that! The kanji for 8 definitely looks like a mountain so that makes a lot of sense. As for 666, I didn’t know it had any negative symbolism.
Thanks for your question! [sounds a bit annoying to a store clerk] → Do you mean 1) the store clerk perceives that you are annoyed? or, 2) the store clerk becomes annoyed? In either case, "I'm just looking" is a standard and common way to respond to "May I help you?" or "Are you looking for something?" in a store. Of course you can / should add a "thank you" and a smile 😊 If you want to go a step further you could say: May I help you? --> "No, it's okay. I'm just looking. Thank you." Are you looking for something? --> "No, nothing in particular. I'm just browsing / looking around. Thank you." Hope that helps!
Yes ☺ If you can say it while modeling the speed that you want them to speak at, it helps the speaker to recognize what you are asking for. Next time you try it, let us know if it works! 🎉

This channel is ideal for me! It's the first time I found a channel that talks and teaches English in English for Japanese people. I want to train my English listening skill, of course in English. But every English learning channel for Japanese is spoken in Japanese. Yeah, there are many English learning sites only in English, but most of them are hard to listen to for me as a Japanese person. Although, in this channel, not only easy (but natural) English is spoken, but also the talk is spoken in contexts for Japanese people, which makes me understand well! (I love to know cultures and contexts that are new to me, but still hard for me to understand very new things and English at the same time. That's why I listen to this channel with familiar things.). Oops, this is too long... I mean, thank you for creating these fun videos!
Thank you for this valuable feedback! We have been trying out new formats for our videos to see what is the most helpful to viewers, such as - Maui speaking Japanese within the video, or adding Japanese subtitles / explanations while only speaking English, etc. It's good to know that the all-English videos for a Japanese audience are useful and interesting for you!
You help me on my language journey! That's good word, "language journey!" I love it! You gave me other good words; I don't have to be "fluent," I should go for "proficient!" By the way, I may be proficient effortless with your videos, which are fun without effort!
Awww, that's such a sweet comment. Thank you ☺️ Yes, I think we should think of learning language as a journey, and aim for proficiency and IMPROVING fluency - not BEING fluent.

日本語で「私は~だと思う」とか「私は~だとは思わない」って良く言いますが、たとえば 「私は彼がそれが出来るとは思わない」または「私は彼はそれが出来ないと思う」と内容は同じですが二通りの言い方ができますよね。 英語の場合はどうなのでしょうか?どうもネイティブの方達は ”I don't think he can do that.”と言うのはよく聞くように思うのですが、 ”I think he can’t do that.” とも言っても良いのでしょうか?
Great question! [I don't think...]を使う"I don't think he can do that."はとてもナチュラルなフレーズですね。 仰った通り、[I think] + negative actionは使いませんね。文法には特に問題ないのですが。。。 例えば:I think it won't rain today. より、I don't think it will rain today. の方がいいです。 I think I won't finish. 🙅♀️ // I don't think I will finish. 🙆♀️ I think we can't make it on time. 🙅♀️ // I don't think we can make it on time. 🙆♀️
@@GengoLingo Thank you for your reply. やっぱりそうなのですね。つい日本語から考えて、I think S don't V. と言ってしまいそうになりますが、 I don't think S V.がナチュラルなのですね。疑問が解けました。ありがとうございます。 自然に I don't think ~ と言えるように練習したいと思います。
これは!英会話で最も重要な内容ですね!!!!ありがとうございます! ぼくは英語学習を始めて8ヶ月の初心者ですが、先月ついに英会話の体験レッスンを受けました。 of course I died👍 「I didn't catch that」みたいなフレーズを言いたかったけど、その時まだ知らなかったです。 I don't understandで良かったんですね! ちなみに、わからなかった文章は 「what do you do」です。 わからない単語は1つもないのに、その時は文章の意味を理解できませんでした。 これは仕事の話なんですね!英語は奥が深い😊
役立つ内容で良かったです! 英会話の体験レッスン!いいですね!Congrats on taking a big step! I don't understand = 意味がわからないとき I didn't catch that = 聞き取れなかったとき なんですが、場合によってはどっちも使えますよね〜 "I didn't catch that"は中級者向けと上級者向けのPDFに含まれているので良かったらダウンロードしてみてください☆ What do you do は本当に「えっ?!」と思いますよね。 これは覚えるしかないフレーズの一つですね。 A: What do you do? B: I'm a software engineer. / I'm a pilot. / I'm an English teacher. / I'm currently between jobs. など
"Suddenly Steak"みたいな感じで、日本語名を英語に直訳すると笑える例がたくさんありますよね🤣 I walked past a hair salon the other day, which was named "Motto Hair"... is this name (More Hair) or does it have a meaning of (Life's motto is "good hair") type of message? Can you recommend a good cafe restaurant?
I recommend you guys the pasta restaurant called "CM2 MAKERS TOKYO" in Nishi-Ogikubo. you can eat "そこそこ美味しいパスタ" at this restaurant. unfortunately, I can't express "そこそこ美味しいパスタ" perfectly in English ☺笑
I looked up CM2 MAKERS TOKYO to see if it was a chain restaurant, but I guess it just has one location? I'll have to keep that in mind if I'm ever in the Nishi-Ogikubo area. Thank you! I would usually say "somewhat" to express そこそこ. So you could say the cafe has "somewhat good pasta", but "somewhat" sounds negative so it's strange as a recommendation. Maybe you want to say the cafe has "pretty good pasta"?

Thanks for your example sentences! Your second sentence is interesting because it can have two meanings: 1) Your puppy is standing AT the kennel and barking at something / someone, or 2) Your puppy is barking AT the kennel. Also, does your puppy sunbath ON (on top of) the kennel? How cute 😍
@@GengoLingo Thank you for your reply. bark at で ~(の場所)で吠える、~に対して吠える の2つの意味があるのですね。勉強になります。ミニレッスンいつも楽しく拝見しています。 英語の前置詞が難しく感じますので、また前置詞シリーズのビデオをアップしてほしいで~す。
@@DUSKEN-z2x Barkと言う動詞がちょっと特別かもしれないですね。似ている動詞は例えば yell とか shout かもしれません。He was yelling at the pier. // She was shouting at the car. どっちもその文だけだと意味は不明です。この文だけだとcontext(起こっているシチュエーションなど)がないので、〇〇で叫んでいるのか、〇〇に叫んでいるのかわかりませんね。 前置詞は難しいですよね。場合によっては全く意味が変わったり、誤解されることもあるので、役立つビデオをたくさんアップしたいと思います💫 いつもありがとうございます!
