2:10 hmmmm... Random thought... Is the inverse possibly true then? Could one theoretically raise the pickups a little more without the magnetic field affecting the sustain of the strings then? Deep thoughts.
Strange comment section 😂. I had a Schecter Ultra III that would always go outta tune from the first strumming. None of my other guitars had this problem. I wish I had just taken it to a shop to have looked at instead of reselling
Keep it simple .If the guitar trust rod has issues .poor strings ..bad bridge ..Locking Tuners RIP ...today people play less and do more science ..More knowledge less apply on playing ..😂😂😂😂😂
I agree with your assessment. I presonally don't like steel strings. They're too hard on my fingers and don't last as long as Nickel. Nickel seems to last longer. You should try Elixir strings. They don't sond quite as good as Nickel out of the box but it's close and they last a year or more without losing their tone.
Wound 3rd 18w is my favorite. Great tuning stability, bends amazing, sounds awesome and won't start to darken (color) immediately. (referring to tin-plated plains). actually i play 9.5 - 12.5 - 18w - 28w - 42w - 52w I would play if available 9.5 - 12.5 - 18w - 29w - 41w - 53w Dunno why no manufacturer makes even 9-52, like if you play heavier bottom its expected you must have at least that first 010p. 9 or 9.5 bends even better. I haven't seen any pros making custom gauge sets if just the guitar itself is setup properly., Tony Iommi plays something like 8-10-11 etc so he's a good example of how different we all are, individuals! There's not even 9-12-16-30-42-52. It's always 10-13-17 and off course not even wound third option unless you go something like 12 or 13. World is full of different sets but 95% seems to be 8-38, 9-42, 9-46, 10-46, 11-50, 10-52. Every player is unique, there's no right or wrong if it fits you, STRINGJOY ALL THE WAY ⭐ Just ordered more sets to here, Finland 🇫🇮 It's gonna cost alot with Tax and all the hassle, but as i said, STRINGJOY ROCKS and is worth it. Thanks 💪⭐🤝
To get round the "pingy" tone on the G and D strings of a standard or long scale bass, why not move the bridge for those strings forward towards the neck? It'll look weird, maybe why that's not a thing already.
Jazz basses seem to have a growel. I own and love both of them. My Jazz Bass is a G&L JB, My PJ is a G&L SB 2 and My P bass is a Fender 1963 original. Both of my G&L's were built here in Fullerton California. Great video
I got this busted up acoustic a while back and it's a short scale (~22.75" or so). I've heard conflicting reports of either going heavier or going light because the neck wood isn't the most structurally sound, and I decided to go with the latter, so since I already have and like an 11-50 flatwound set on an electric, so I went and got another package for the acoustic.
13/56 flats....yeah...I'm stud. Untill I feel a twinge...then I put down the Jag, and pick up the Mustang...with the 7/38s...and that or something like is also what I warm up with. Acoustics....a really good one sounds great with light strings...Martin 000-15sm (Philomela)...I'm using 9/42 slinky flats now... she loves them. I love them.
Definitely like the wound 3rd sound better than the plain 3rd. These videos really are helpful to those of us that are new to all the variants of strings there are made. The wound does make the electric guitar sound a bit more acoustic, and sometimes you need that type of sound. Please keep the videos coming!
Your boy Wyatt said use abrasive cord about the size of the string and then he started sawing away on the high e saddle with something like the size of the D or the A string. This is the second video in a row with an “expert” that doesn’t know his stuff. Why don’t you guys forget about RU-vid and just focus on making guitar strings? Nice going. I just unsubscribed.
In mid 2000s i got my first ibanez super strat at 15. No one was there to help me to set it up, the most frustrating experience I ever had. It got so bad, that no matter what i did after i string and tune it the bridge would stay at 45 degrees no matter what. I sold it at a loss and got a fender later, was much happier. Definitely NOT for a loner teenage noob who is getting into guitars, i just thought they looked cool, was my big mistake as a kid
Impossible to hear everything clear, because the neighbours son, seems to have ruined the sound on the video with misplaced homemade muzak. Doesnt add anything to the video, but spoils it. How could this first amateur fail occur, and no adults to remove it at once.
Strings are fairly inexpensive. Your guitar is different from other guitars. What sounds good on 1 guitar may not sound good on another. So, buy a few different name brands and different models... 80/20, Phosphor Bronze. Coated, Un Coated, Treated, Un Treated.. find what's best for Your guitar.
Never buying again. Bought some for the first time and some of the thinner strings had corrosion which you could barely see but you could feel. I usually make sure none of my strings have corrosion before stringing by passing the length of each string through my fingers. The g, b and high e had corrosion.
This is one of the most informative and helpful videos on this issue. Thanks a lot! Question: Is it an either/or thing where can I use either the sandpaper/file or the “instrument floss” abrasive string thingy? Or do I have to use both? Thanks in advance.
When your “expert” demonstrated how to string the wound strings on the Ibanez he made a big fat mistake. It looked okay because it wasn’t a real, full length string running through the bridge. He just showed the whole world how not to do it. He wound the string around the post from the speaking length, which will always distort the windings. It’s a perfect recipe for poor intonation and dead sounding wound strings. I just couldn’t stand it, and I shut the video off at 5:17. Don’t do it like this clown. There are about five proper ways to string your guitar in Dan Erlewine’s outstanding book, How to Make Your Electric Guitar Play Great. The money you save on wound strings will pay for the book in no time flat.
