My first job (which I hated) was as a computer operator at a business bureau on an ICL 1902 in the 1970s, (NO disk drive, just a teletype, paper tape and punched card readers, and 4 magnetic tape drives ) most of the work involved slamming the mag tape reels into the drives and wrapping the end of the tape onto the takeup reel so it could pull the tape past the read heads via long vacuum chambers; I use to hate sort programs, they were exhausting, using 3 or 4 tape drives. Then they got a version of the George operating system that could run TWO programs at once, so I had to work twice as hard! The paper tape input (the only way of inputting volume data , the punched cards were just programming) used to spew like spaghetti into a big bin and we'd rewind it (god knows why, we always tore it several times while doing so) Sure made me appreciate my next job, when I got trained as a COBOL programmer! kids these days ......

In the UK does a person need to have a legal valid power of attorney to touch, use and activate another persons' computer device, tablet or GSM? Does an Executor automatically have a valid legal Power of Attorney? I strongly suspect that my late mother was taken advantage of by a family member who was living with her and has hacked into our late mothers' computer and stolen all her security codes etc. Do the police have the authority to check that cybercrimes have taken place or do they need a court order?
Worked for ICL during 1975 -1983. Worked on 1900, 2903, 2950, 2956 and run a dual 2976 OCP installation for a number of years. Many months in Letchworth and Manchester. Best Company I ever worked for. Learned lots and met great people. Fond memories.
