At 1:06:00 when Catalina de Urrutia’s portrait is being discussed, one thing to note is she wears two pocket watches. There are many portraits of New Spanish women with this odd feature. The reason they had this fashion is because one watch had local time, and tue other Madrid time. So the watches serve to illustrate the importance the connection to the crown and the motherland had for these elite women.
I am new to this writer, and an instant super fan. I went into McNally Jackson bookstore on Prince Street in NYC last week, not because I needed any more books whatsoever, but because I like to go into bookstores and judge them by how many different Bolaño titles they have--this is partly a joke and partly not so much because they had twelve titles of his in fiction and one in poetry. This was the most I had ever seen in any bookshop. I was curious to see what else they had on the current table and I found "Mona" by P.O. The cover brought me in for sure but when I found out it was literary fiction--or some kind of jab at literary scenes, I was all in. Needless to say, I was very impressed, and the novel helped me escape during a difficult journey home and the onset of Covid 19, from which I am now recovering at home in Nashville, where I live and work as a songwriter. I work all over the planet actually, and will be in Spain later this year. Anyway, you can find my work on my channel here or anywhere on the the internet that has music. Spotify, etc... enjoy. Thanks for posting this interview with a new favorite author.. Tim E. in Tennessee
Thank you very much for your note, Tim. We’re glad you liked the interview. Pola is amazing. We share your point of view regarding poetry distribution in bookstores. We know translating poetry is challenging, but we believe more poetry should be offered for authors like Bolaño. We will check your profile! Thank you again!
Tim, did you see my note about the McNally Jackson Intl. Book Club? We discussed Mona on Monday night. There is a recording. We meet live, and over Zoom, once a month
@@TimEastonSongwriter there is a recording of the talk. I've asked the host to post it. Meanwhile, please sign up for the International Book club. You can attend by zoom
