At about 1:01:55 Dr. DePue brings up a pivotal point when he speaks of Gen. Longstreet's "suggestion" to Gen. Lee that it "might be" more advantageous for the Confederate forces to disengage, withdraw and make a (wise) tactical movement to the south of the Union forces, thereby putting them (the Confederate forces) in a much better strategical defensive position. Lee, with his egotistical nature, refused to withdraw - the consequences: a serious mistake. In my opinion, Longstreet was twice the General that Lee was.
Grant was a much better general than Lee, Grant controlled and was responsible for all Union armies. Lee only had to command a single army on a single axis.
Soldiers of all ages and generations who’ve experienced combat, will always find common ground in their funny stories. No matter the battlefield, or era they will find common ground in the levity of the hells they walked through.
Given all the shared heritage in the US, including the fact that we ended chattel slavery, the choice to venerate the four years of the slavers' failed rebellion as one's "heritage" is a deliberately and consciously racist choice. Anyone who grew up in the South, as I did, knows this full well, and knows EXACTLY how these people talk when they think they're safely alone among racist friends. It's "Hate Pretending to be Heritage," and they ALL know it.
I used ti live near the Richter Farm and Atzerodt walked past my home when he went there after the assassination. People said a suspicious man had walked up Clopper Road and the Yankee Cavalry caught him.
You need to re-record this when you're not so nervous. The narration lacked continuity. And the camera should be focused on the pieces not the narrator. Also the diamond heart appeared to be round diamonds not emerald cut diamonds.
Yes Lincoln freed the slaves then Grant signed the act of 1871 and enslaved everyone at the time and their future descendants to the crown and the Bank of Rothschild in the city of London and that's where our taxes have been going since Grant signed the act
Can you imagine what it would be like if we didn't have a civil war? It would be a never-ending cold war. Constant competition for everything. The rest of the world would play one side off against the other.
Early last year I wrote to Mr Speranza and he sent me a personalized autographed copy of his book. He has since passed on, but I will cherish that book for the rest of my life. Thank you for your service, Vince, you badass! 🇺🇸
So chilling to think, in an alternate timeline, nearly all those celebrating sailors perished on the beaches of Japan in Operation Downfall, the bloodiest slaughter in history.
By the by, when doing a video presentation of a topic, keep the focus on the screen, NOT the room, where the items you point out, BECOME INVISIBLE. I mean really. Video editing 101.
"in 1931 he was part of a coup to overthrow the prime minister. The coup failed. So what would happen if an American tried to do something like that, it would be bad news"... 2024, USA.... We have an ex-president and his top cronies still walking free after trying to overturn the will of the people, a coup, in 2020. With 35 to 45% of the population okay with that. A man who brags about receiving love letters from a psychopath dictator, worships Vladimir Putin, a political party and news media outlets that promote Russian propaganda. Is against giving aid to country that's been invaded by a dictator. I ask you doctor, if America 2024 was America in 1931, which side of the war would we join? Does the Constitution allow for half the country to join the allies and the other half ally with japan? We could get a world war and a civil war done at the same time over in Europe and in the Pacific. That would spare us a lot of collateral damage.
There is lots of info regarding historical clothing on the web these days. I think you will find that corsets (if fitted correctly , like today's bras) were comfortable and not meant to be "tight laced" ever. Only a very small percentage of women would have tight laced because it was so impractical and uncomfortable. Regarding the hairstyles of the Victorian era (and even Edwardian era) the ladies also saved their hair to make extra hair pieces for a fuller hairdo (that was in a perfect color match since it was their own hair)
“Hysteria” was a broad term applied to most women who exhibited emotion- outside of the patriarch lead decided ideal of womanhood. I don’t know if we would have hospitalized her today as we recognize several of her issues and there exist outpatient support. Had her living son been so informed, he might have opted for in home care vs sending her away as her “illness” was a blemish on him and his attempts to make a living.
