I’d rather see this than the real thing at this point, I wish legacy bands would pass the torch and rebuild the band with younger counterparts who can fill the shoes. It’s definitely possible to especially with the budget
As someone who both makes stuff and has repaired equipment I can say that I both support Hakko and I'm also frustrated. Releasing the schematic to something that you have invested time and money into developing is very much handing over the keys to the kingdom. Yes it is possible to reverse engineer almost anything these days but to literally make available all the information to replicate something is something that as a manufacturer you really don't want to happen. If the cost of an item is in the development moreso than the production cost then you really don't want your intellectual property released. When I worked on machines worth 10's of 1000's of dollars the repair manuals were extremely thorough as there really is no chance of the machine being replicated. If the right to repair affected software could you imagine microsoft either being happy or complying with having to give over source code. Hakko have done what is essentially the legal minimum to be compliant with the legislation that exists in 1 state worldwide. They already have a repair service that is cheaper than what anyone could realistically repair the soldering stations for so there options are removing the irons from sale in California (which definitely wouldn't stop them being used) or to create a bit of fluff that complies with the legislation. I personally repair just about everything that I have ever made either for free or at cost price. If someone can break it then I haven't built it well enough.
@Alan_Hans__ More than one state California is the most strict, Oregon expands on that effective Jan 01. The point of right to repair is to have the documents and tools to diagnose and repair without having to rely on the manufacturer to do it for you. Sure, they may charge $10.00 for labor, but they nail ya on parts up to 95% the cost of a new one when it is a .05 diode or .02 cap or a firmware reload/update. They did not need to create a bs repair manual. Just provide schematics, etc, and you are on your own.
Deleted my comment! So no criticism allowed in your comments section? Two things: firstly, I so wish you wouldn't slurp coffee during a video - it sounds disgusting! Secondly, "classified" in this context doesn't mean secret, it just means organising things into classifications. I don't think this is an FU from Hakko. Rather, it looks to me exactly like the sort of job an enthusiastic and sincere new graduate would do. In particular a graduate who has never repaired an electronic circuit in his life. The job got delegated to the most junior staffer, and got done badly.
I wish Gene would go on a more extensive tour in the U.S.! It really seems as if Gene didn’t want to quit in my opinion, but Paul definitely wanted to retire and his vocals just can’t last forever. Hopefully us Kiss fans can see more of Gene in the coming months/ years to fill the void that’s been left by the end of the band.

I've rolled Hakko for many years but what see is they sure know how to crank it pricewise for consumables, especially the FR-301 desoldering tool tha hoses through such parts... In the case of one my FX-888D irons it was just not worth my time to try fix the base that was already 10yrs old & hardly ever turned off & i picked up something else. In my eyes Hakko stuff is expensive moreso these days but it gave me a good run on the reliability side of things... I guess i'm lazy but my time better served doing paid for repairs...

Schematics are what? Corporate secrets... they don't have to give you all the 'keys to the kingdom' in the real world even under the new right to repair rules. They basically say "Take pictures of everything in the device when you get the device and use those to repair!"
Schematics, like other forms of technical documentation, do not inherently qualify as trade secrets unless they meet specific criteria and that is a big criteria. Most automatically loose the protection when the item is patented, made public by production, electronically transmitted, or If the product can be easily reverse-engineered to reveal the schematics. Yes, Schematics are specifically spelled out in model right to repair legislation. In CA SB244 Definitions J (2) “Documentation” means any electronic or appliance product manual, diagram, reporting output, service code description, schematic, or similar information that is provided by a manufacturer to an authorized repair provider, or that is for use by the manufacturer if the manufacturer does not have any authorized repair providers, for purposes of effecting the services of diagnosis, maintenance, or repair of the electronic or appliance product. Most schematics save for the very rare ones that receive a patent have not historically been taken or accepted as corporate secrets. They were widely available for anyone looking for many devices for a long time, and somewhere along the way as RTR became an issue they became more “reserved for certified techs” not secrets. But the whole RTR issue is exactly that, there’s nothing to this or other similar device that’s a trade secret. They can protect their image and their brand but they cannot stop you from doing something to their item you’ve purchased, or fixing someone else’s. And they know that.
