Highlander Games is a community focused Gaming store based in the Twin Cities metro area of MN. We are currently building our online presence while we work on opening a new store with full arcade and event center.
We also vend and help at numerous events in the midwest. Including 2D Con and VGM Con.
Yeah, it's priced for 8 booster packs ($40), plus a deck (because of the evidence cards) plus a "box topper." Which, it contains, but that's such a steep price if you just want the game, or just the packs.
I feel like something that would elevate this game to the next level, is that people come up with a basic plot to accompany the film title. I've not played the game with my friends yet, but after drawing a few cards it seems like there are some grammatical limitations to the titles you create. For example if I drew these cards: Car Insane Brain Collector Gelatinous Cop There aren't many possibilities for how I could arrange them, something like "The insane gelatinous brain collecting cop car". However, if you also have to describe the plot, that gives you more freedom to play with the order of the words. If I have to come up with a plot, I can start to move those parts around. For example, with the insane gelatinous brain collecting cop car", we can move where "gelatinous" is in the title in a way that doesn't make sense without additional context. What if the plot is about a cop whose partner was killed in a shoot out at a gummy factory, and is crushed in a car-shaped gummy mould? Now he is an insane gelatinous cop car, and he is driving the streets of detroit, hungry for brains! And the protagonist is working on a case about a series of hit and runs where the victims' brains are missing. And comes to the awful conclusion that he has to face off against his former partner! I literally came up with that plot in under a minute. I think adding in the plot pitch adds a layer of creativity and fun. If it is just about constructing a sentence from 5 cards, I think it is kinda limited. full disclosure: this isn't a criticism of the game or the game creators. My flatmate bought me a copy and I was looking up playthroughs so I could play with my flatmates. I really like the premise, I just think that by adding the creative aspect of coming up with a plot, it would take this game to the next level.
