Here it is, now March 2024: Matthew Shepard breaks my Heart. His young life cut short by merciless beatings and then left alone. How sad his life and future was taken from him. I and many others will never forget this tragedy. RIP
I have so much admiration and respect for Judy and Dennis Shepard. They have done more work with LGBTQ youth than most organizations I have ever heard of . They have helped save lives, educate others, and fought/fight continuously to help shape legislation to help achieve equality for all in the LGBTQ Community. I will never forget when I heard what happened to Matthew. My heart dropped with an aching pain. How can someone hate the idea of someone so different than they, that they are willing to severely torture and violently take their life away? I raised my daughter to believe that everyone deserves to be treated with compassion and respect. And to stand up, when we see that others need help. To be silent, is to stand on the side of the oppressors. Mathew Shepard rest in eternal peace, my friend......❤️
That was so beautiful ! I live in Baltimore Maryland. The people of Baltimore held a memorial to Matthew and I remembered the picture of where MATTHEW was tied to that fence where Matthew died and it reminded of how Jesus died on the cross ! After this I started to cry ! May God bless you Matthew @

I just read the story and watched the movie, and now my school is putting on a production of it and this is the character I was given, I don’t think I need to act when I read this bc ill most likely be crying the entire time
12-29-2021... listening to this hurt and proud dad, crying my guts out... as a dad of 2 wonderful boys, never wish to be in this position this brave man was.

I'm doing the laramie project play in my school right now and one of my roles is dennis shepard. That includes this speech. I dont know how I can live up to this.
I would have loved to watch the killer’s face as he listened to such a Powerful statement. I too hope they both have a very long existence behind bars. I saw an interview with one of the killers where he stated that he was ashamed and sorry..... but you could see it was just a script with no remorse.
I’m looking in the comments section and find a lot of ignorance. I’m not saying this to be mean, just to be honest. They were calling this Dennis Shepard’s speech, yet this was a recording of an actor from a movie as said in the description. How can people not even look at the description and believe it’s real? Also, don’t call it a hate crime and say you know what happened when in reality, only Matthew Shepard and the two men know what happened. The two murderers were portrayed as total strangers by the media and were able to easily lure Matthew in a car even though he suffered permanent emotional bleeding from being gang raped back in high school. This doesn’t make any sense. Are you really blinded by the spirits and principalities that run this world? Do you really believe these celebrities cared about Matthew Shepard and the supposed painful death he went through? Did you really think Matthew didn’t know any of these guys? You all need to do some research. And to flip everything upside down and say we should all be accepted for being “different”? Or are you saying we should all be accepted for being sinners? It’s time to wake up. Dennis also said that “god was with Matthew”. Which one? The Alahayam (God) of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or the god of this world who is Satan (2 Corinthians 4:4). Because not a lot of churches preach about the true Alahayam of this world. Put your trust in Him, not the media...
Actor Terry Kinney, who played Dennis Shepard in "The Laramie Project," was meticulous in his approach to this speech. The pauses, the tears, the moments when his breath catches, are all in that film exactly the way we hear them. Kinney's delivery of that speech was, I believe, his gift to the Shepard family.
i dont care if matt was gay-st, black or what ever what they did to him was wrong and barbaric only a peep with a de ranged mind would do something like that to this sweet kid, i have to cry when his parents talk about what happened to him, his parents i fell so bad for them, hate is ugly thing no matter what.
to change ones mentality of hate to good even after being sentenced to prison does not change the psychological attitudes of one self....hate is worse than cancer(for this world's worst disease) and is worse than death in nether world. We can smother hate but we as humans can not eradicate it once and for all. The will power must come within the soul of humanity as a whole unity...separate means malignant cancer such that repetitions is not far away...
