My kids didn't need much time deschooling when we started 9 years ago...I did. Deschooling isn't just to help the kids transition, its to help the parent decondition from what the public education system is the " right " way to do things. I deschooled for about 7 months, was the best thing i could have done for my homeschool. I have never worried about doing " enough", my kids being " behind" or any of the other things i see so many other homeschoolers worry about.
@@Faithasamustardseed I’m not sure the blush it’s just from a palette I’ve had for a long time. The lipstick is probably L’Oréal Glow Mulberry Bliss more of a balm than a lipstick and I wear it all the time
Very helpful tips, I have one auditory learner, two visual learners and one kinesthetic/ tactile learner. Also, what a beautiful forest, the whole time I was watching I was like " how is she not getting lost?" 😅😂
I love how you did journaling with your son! I’m going to have to try that with my daughter because trying to come up with a quick summary for a notebook entry is sometimes crippling for her. And this is a good tip to know for when my youngest is ready to start writing.
Are you able to just purchase the curriculum without the online component? Do you get the full curriculum book if you purchase just one month or only have access to certain countries?
Loved this! I want to see more of your garden and the future pickles! We pretty much lived at our pool this summer with breaks to drive to the Jersey shore and soak up as much ocean time as possible. Now we are back and I'm so thankful for the long break.
This was super helpful. My 13 year old is also a very reluctant writer so I was looking at this level for him and it was reassuring to see you're using it with a 13 year old as well. On the website I couldn't tell much but your flip through was great and the activities look so fun!
Thank you for this flip-through! The Write Shop is on my wish list, and your video helps me see the curriculum in more detail. Also, thank you for sharing your daughter's experience with writing. My 11 year old is a reluctant speller and writer. I was hoping a junior level with The Write Shop would help her. It's encouraging when other homeschool parents share their experiences. It's a great reminder everyone learns differently and to go at your child's pace. 🙏🏽💜
Thank you so much for this! I appreciate the reminder that the homeschool day in the life videos we watch are just showing snippets of their day and the hard parts are not being shown. Such an important thing to mentally prepare for as we start our homeschooling journey! Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us!💜
I’ve been comparing a few different all in one enrichment curriculums. I love Rachel’s approach to schooling. All but ONE of her entire book list was in my library system catalog. Thanks for this! Between her free online sample and your walk through video, I think I’m going to pull the trigger.
We love apologia math! We have used several math curriculums over the years with my two oldest but never loved them. This September will be our third year using apologia math. My third born will be starting level 6 (she loved levels 4 and 5) and my youngest will start level one.
@@lifebytheseaside2262 we love it too! Last year was the first year we used two levels and it was the first year we didn’t change math curriculums during the year
Thank you for this! I just figured out they had a math curriculum while researching the science ones! I have a couple of kinesthetic learners so I am so excited about this. Your review was so well done and comprehensive.
@@thewinslowsforthewin I’m so glad it was helpful! I have a few videos on my channel from this school year on Apologia Math of that would be helpful too.
@@gemmasummer7337 Most of what I’ve seen of the faith is just at the beginning of a unit which is easily skipable. You may also run into an occasional story problem that may say something about church or something in it. Hope this helps!
So the teachers guide doesn't have a script for the teacher? It looks like all the explanations are in the student book. I'm currently using bju and I hate how much is in the teachers guide.
It worked really well for quite awhile. It really helped him break the words up into chunks to read it faster. We did hit a wall in the handbook for reading at one point and couldn’t get past it. We opted to try as different approach and it is working well for us at this point. I think Abeka is a really solid program for sure and recommend it still. Sometimes pivoting is necessary though for kids to help things click better. Hope this helps!
Did you enjoy these? Have you kept using them? I know youve mentioned you have a reluctant writer. I do also😅 I'm trying to decide if this will be a good fit for 4th grade.
I think The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading is one of the most underrated phonics/reading curriculums out there. We love it! I love the simplicity and optional activities if needed. We buy a variety of decodable readers for extra practice. We have moved much faster than I expected. My oldest should be finished with it by the end of 1st grade. My 4 year old is on lesson 75. They enjoy it too! And usually ask to do more than one lesson. Though sometimes we split out a lesson over 2-3 days. Depends on what is taught. We like having the separate student book. They like to hold it the whole lesson. We also watch AlphaPhonics to supplement. It helps clarify some of the early blends, digraphs, etc.
I’ve tried a lot of similar reading curriculum. I ended up quitting what you are using now and worked with a reading therapist that guided us to use All About Reading, slightly modified.
I’m a firm believer in meeting a child where they are at regardless of level or label of grade on a curriculum. If the skills match where he is that is what is important
Would this be good in case our child decides to go back to public school? The more Christian based curriculums worry me that they won't have enough for the "public school" standard.
