Very interesting, Did you make those tools? Been looking online trying to find some if not where did you get the material to make them?
@roo1yak
@roo1yak 10 месяцев назад
Yes, I made them. Main tool is made of spring steel with a 3d printed handle, has become a bit more malleable with repeated bending and shaping. Thin tool is from a softdrink can.

Go to any auto store and buy a set of feeler gauges . then you will have any size from.001 " to .030 " and you gan make the size you want.

Handy to know about pick thickness and placement. Did you add the 5th key pin to lock #4? It would be great if Sparrows provided them so you could add them later. I have the rekey set so can switch to other keys. But I have found that just switching the cylinder/plug between my cutaway and progressive locks doesn’t always work. So I’m thinking that the tolerances are a bit off which is a shame.

What vice is that?
@roo1yak
@roo1yak 11 месяцев назад
It is a cheap Chinese mass-produced vice that is marketed under many brands. It does have a bench suction attachment feature that I never use. If you're in australia, Jcar is where I purchased this one.

Nice video good info.#2 was the only one I could pick with bottom of lock tension.When I switched to top of lock like you mention 3,4,and 5 were picked within an hour
@AndrewMoizer
@AndrewMoizer 11 месяцев назад
I’m still working through mine too. I have found that too vs bottom tension changes things too. I am just holding mine in my hand and have found that tensioning from the back of the keyway works well. Cheating I know but helps when still getting the feel of where the pins are.

Have you tried going over the top of the retainer and hitting the sidebar at the exposed point in the middle? It seems like it should be easier.
@roo1yak
@roo1yak 2 года назад
Never tried that approach, heard it mentioned before but never seen a successful pick tensioning that way. I do find that you can bind pins progressively from the front by slowly inserting the tension pick further into the sidebar channel which is advantageous.

On the knob sets I use a small punch and punch a hole in the back of the plug and use a Allen wrench to turn the spindle to open the knob. The newest deadbolts have a block in the tail piece to prevent the punch method from working.
