While My sister was a University student in the north of Ireland she asked my grandfather and me to meet and stay with her on my Godmothers farm outside Tuam. All of my grandparents emigrated to Boston between WW1 and WW2, so I grew up in a family that talked about Ireland as if it were the magical Kingdom of Xanadu. There were times that I was cynical of their Irish affinity, but then I visited Glendalough when we were spending a weekend in Dublin. We walked along the Valley as my sister and I caught up on each of our lives an unmistakable sense of peace and joy came over me, I will never forget that feeling, and now I have a greater affinity for Ireland.

What a beautiful, heartfelt video. Truly the English countryside is unmatched for peaceful loveliness. So fortunate Constable captured it for us 200 years ago, and the National Trust preserves it for us to see today as he saw it then. Also, paired most perfectly with Vaughan Williams' exquisite pastorale "The Lark Ascending."

I used the pronunciation they gave me. ‘Stour’ is an ancient Celtic word applied to rivers all over England; it’s meaning is now unknown. It’s first written record is 1086 in the Domesday Book, where it was written as “Sture”. The pronunciation of the different River Stours varies across the UK. I used the pronunciation of the East Anglian Stour. I hope this helps you understand why I pronounced it this way.
Figuratively speaking, yes it’s a forgotten corner of England. No huge industrial cities, no estates of apartment buildings, no enormous retail parks, no factory complexes. Sure, Colchester is nearby, but it’s not a Sheffield, Manchester or Birmingham. Constable Country is farmland as far as you can see, small ancient villages and the roads (with the exception of the A12) are quiet country lanes. So yep, for me it’s ‘forgotten’.

I don’t have the time to write, record the commentary and especially edit videos. I have hours and hours of video from all over Europe, but I can’t find the time to put it all together. Brought back some memories i used to let the boats out at Flatford during the day and milk the cows for the Richardsons morning and evening when i was 13 to 15 years old I was paid 25p an hour ! it was great fun
There's a shot from the Wicklow mountains in the movie The nephew near the end with sunrays shining unto one of the lakes way in the diistance,it is the most beautiful sight to get the shot as perfect as that.pity there wasn't a picture of it online tho but i will keep searching.I'm from northern ireland but am determined to go to wicklow @ some stage with a camera.
