The original islanders were Amun god worshipers from Egypt, the Hebrews of the Exodus 1,500 years ago. The island was part of the Hebrides kingdom, where some of the Hebrews settled, explaining why Gaelic is similar to Hebrew. The name Amun (also called Amen and Amana) is where the island gets its name from. The original flag/insignia had 3 stars on it instead of 3 spurs, the 3 stars of Orion's Belt, the "Magi". The god Amun was a trinity of 3 gods, the original Amun, plus the god Min and Ra (Sun god).
Sometimes three circling legs can mean three religious jewish festivals. ( The verse Exodus 23:14 in Hebrew.) It is amusing to see such legs on the flag of the Isle of Man.
I was blessed to be able to visit this site while working at a potash mine in the area. It truly is an amazing place and thankfully it is being preserved.
My late father and my uncle Bill( Dad's brother) in 1954. Both were recent Dutch immigrants to Canada. Bill then lived up in the low lying Holland Marsh are south of Bradford, Ont. with his wife and newborn daughter. Uncle Bill's first home in Canada was literally one of those flimsy, almost tar paper like shacks found at the end of the big fields for workers in the Holland Marsh in the 1950's and 60's. In 1954 Hurricane Hazel hit Holland Marsh hard with a lot of flooding, economic and storm damage and I heard a few deaths(not sure though). Uncle Bill's house I heard got almost completely flooded and I heard that Bill( he passed away in 2009) almost drowned trying to rescue his wife and newborn daughter. My dad helped his brother get safe and relocate to a new place. They both also tried to help and rescue other people who were in trouble during the storm in Oct.'54 when it happened.
