Known before as Divine Eve this album is also a killer one, guitars creeping out of the rotten tombs...when Death Metal was supposed to be super heavy instead of playing 50 notes a second...
This was the Germs at their best. They could have went into some interesting territory had it not fallen apart. When you hear these tracks you can hear had the influence was spread to bands like The Adolescents and even to later L.A. bands like GNR (yes, Guns And Roses).
Never heard the studio versions. I was what I love about the Germs the most. How punk rock Darby wanted to be. He killed himself on the wrong day. The day John Lennon was executed. Imagine if he didn't? Would Motley Crue had mowhakes? Instead of wigs. I was listening to live bootlegs for about ten years, in prison, before I ever heard anything from the studio in the early 2000's when I got out. Thanx for putting earlier cuts of the Germs!!
@marcy_law yes but it really can't be remixed or remastered.. It's lost. I think it would interesting to see if it could be separated track by track. Just a thought 😊
Fucking Amazing , Darby was the Real Deal . indeed incredible , Brilliant, Smart and a Genius the Germs were Truly the First Punks they went beyond the Boundaries and Broke all the Rules not Giving a Fuck What people in Society Thought or Said about them talking shit about them like Asshole Cocksuckers today that Text Bullshit and still do i Look at all the assholes that Text Negative Shit making Fun saying he had no talent and couldn't sing that he was afraid of the mike , is Bullshit , it would of been Cool if Darby Crash Would of not Killed Himself they would of Put out Some More Records Pat Smear is a Legend of a Guitarists and Lorna Doom Germs Legend Female Bassist Lorna ❤ Doom R. I. P. Bass Sound WAS Heavy Duty and One of a Kind, and Don Bolles was a Heavy Duty Punk Drummer had a Great Drumming Style and Sound the Germs were the Beginning of Punk PERIOD DOT.
These songs contain some of the greatest, most harrowing lyrics that Darby Crash ever wrote, particularly in "Going Down": "Sifting through apocalypse / Already knew it would come to this / Just another game to play / How many ways have I got to pay?" There's not much to say after that; it's an unambiguously final statement.
When I told Nirvana that Pat Smear was alive and well they were amazed! They all thought all the germs were dead. I told em where to find em, the rest is history!
Oh God, please don’t mention the Foo Fighters or Nirvana or Grunge. Just cuz Pat Smear signed on to play with a commercial band that really blows is his own deal, has not one fucking thing to do with the Germs that died when when Darby decided to take a long walk on the other side.
“Running things” should be taken with a grain of salt. They had currency in their L.A. punk scene which was like a hundred people tops. A dedicated and cool theatrical type scene. Certain clubs wouldn’t let them play still. The Screamers were headlining shows and had yet to put out a recording you could buy….and they never would. Then the scene exploded into younger less theatrical more violence for violence-sake types, and Darby probably seeing the whole thing as turning into something truly ugly did a lethal blast of heroin and put or had a sign a sign put above him at a party “Here Lies Darby” and that was it
As much as rude is that comment of yours, it is the whole truth, except Darby end himself not only for that reason, it was various reasons but anyway non of them truly worth to end himself, but what he could do... Nowadays I ask myself, there was his time, exact place and perfect people to do his magic, but either way would be very cool if he has still alive or one thing for sure stay a little bit more and record more songs but the talented people are always mess in the head who knows how nature exactly working for them I guess is a bit different and in DarbYs time also strong guts are need to perform gosh, I wish he was still among us..
Recorded for a soundtrack, only like a minute of one song was actually used in the movie, some of these tracks were around in other compilations. I’m not too sure how this specific grouping of the tracks got spread around and if it’s in physical form somewhere but to my knowledge this is all the songs they recorded in these sessions
Only thing Rodney was good for: exposing underground punk and kissing Joan’s beautiful behind. What he did, using his influence to damage the Angry Samoans bc they dared challenge his self-anointed king of punk rock status.
