New episode on the 10th of each month (less April & May).
This portable podcast is hosted and edited by Gavin Watson, a British Army veteran of 16 years. He talks to other military veterans, allowing them to share their stories and experiences from before, during and after service.
This podcast will give non-military personnel the chance to gain a better understanding of military life and gain an insight into what the transition back to civilian life can be like. These strong individuals may inspire, after dealing with diversity, resilience and possibly life changing injuries or illnesses.
If you’re a veteran missing your time in the military, this is a great way to rekindle that fire. Regardless of service, rank or time served....every veteran has an experience to share. Sometimes, they just need an opportunity to do so.
This podcast is recorded and edited in Gavin’s free time.
Ex 2/6 field Regiment , 1st Gulf War , after wards Malcolm Rifkind wanted rid of juiner NCOs , save money . Then few years later amalgamations happened. @@MilitaryVeteransPodcast first came across you with your interview of Hugh Keir, Para reg sniper & host of the H-Hour podcast. Really enjoyed that interview
This guy hit the nail on the head about maturity, I joined up in 74 pvr 2 weeks before pass out, (was homesick) as I walking out the camp gates a SSgt said to me, you will be back. 12 months later I signed back up, the first person I saw entering that camp was that SSgt, he shook my hand and welcomed me back, the instructors were arguing which section I went with as I opted to go through basic, what a great time I had in that 18weeks , as I’d got myself ready and fit. Happy days..
Excuse my lack of understanding "Why did whites take up arms in Rhodesia.I always thought they came to Rhodesia as investors and the indigenous people were kind enough to accommodate them""so where they now trying to fight the indigenous people 'so that they can take over their country?Pliz engage me ,dont attack me"
Its really interesting that Ben says he would go through the reserves if he had his time again as I did Regs at 17 in 1984 but the regification was way over the top and I binned it and joined the reserves .I ended up going Commando which was great fun and did all kinds of good courses. I found the reserves came from such diverse backgrounds that if there was any kind of problem we could solve it. Respects to all who have served in any capacity .
This is exactly why airborne training is so tough and weight orientated rather than distance like what royal marines training is, as loud and annoying airborne trained guys are you gotta respect the men for what they go through. i didn't get much para reg exposure but what I did get god those guys have big egos 😂 and they love a good fight. i was garrisoned just up the road from them in Aldershot we used to do our Bergen runs past their barracks i also had a para reg guy in the same dorm as me in collie aka the glass house all he would go on about is still having cloud in his beret 😂 they are mad 🤣🏴💙🇺🇸👊👊👊✌
I laughed out loud at the vignette about Sennybridge training area being in "appalling conditions". Those are the conditions on Sennybridge, there are no others......!
One of the best podcasts you’ve done. Everyone should start here. I’ve seen a few of your podcasts Gavin and like others dialled back to the start. You will be helping people and not all will reach out to you, however, remember the great work you are doing.
I did Gitmo Jan. '66 to April, then on leave, staging Bn. then RVN July '66-Aug. '67, back to Lejuene, Carib cruise, back to Lejeune, orders to Marine Barracks Gitmo, orders back to Lejuene, Feb. '69, early out April '69. 0311. They don't give dress blues to "soldiers", is this guy for real?
Thank you for you service Sir...its ridiculous that they could not keep you on their books until you reached yr 12 yr mark. Is disgusting the way they do not look after the soldiers...most cd still be employed within the unit on deskwork or similar. Its high time this was changed...no wonder re-recruitment is down. Good luck son you are a hero.
I like what HR4K stands for that is primarily and undoubtedly set with military routs at it's core. However the branches of this tree spread out widely and is more than just military in mind. It welcomes all and that is what makes Ben and his business special. The mixture of people and experiences but all sharing a common ethos is an amazing and inspirational thing. Keep on doing what you're doing Ben.
