@@monikagarza9636 I’ve not had enough experience with painting countertops that are durable enough for the kitchen…but I see others who have done it here on RU-vid.
As a professional 45 year painter your advice is spund, however for the primer no need to match the color,GREY is the ultimate primer color when painting dark finishes. And you also forgot a hand sponge sander they cost $3.00 at Home Depot and SAND SAND,SAND all woodwork well before starting your priming...ENJOY!
This is the video I need! I have 180 pounds to lose. I’ve started making some better habits and I want to get serious about my health. I love what you say about being happy- because I’m really not (thank you therapy and a much better job getting me closer to happy again!).
Great video!! Like the tape tip for the drawers, I'm definitely going advance as you recommend. Quick question, after the 2nd coat with advance do you do any post-clear coat or something to protect it?? I'm ready to tackle my kitchen!! Thanks a bunch
I'm on a mission to paint my kitchen cabinets and to find the best paint and process. How has this paint held up after 5 years? I see a lot of newer videos using Beyond paint kits. But I don't care for the eggshell finish in a kitchen. It also seems like Beyond paint doesn't leave the smoothest finish.
Oh heck no, it’s my fave thing in the world to do what makes me feel good even when it annoys others. Thanks for stopping by and adding a comment to help the channel 👍
Ahhh, finally a RU-vidr I have so many things in common with! I homeschooled my kids for 11 years. They’re all married now and I’m still trying to figure myself out. Thanks for the great content!!
You had me at dance party! I'm subbing, anybody brave enough to do that show's me you are divested of all ego entanglement. You are an emotionally healthy person.
Tradies told be to use Benjamin Moore on my outside walls - big mistake, it was too expensive to flake so quickly, and only a year later, I've gone with an equally expensive but different brand.
I just found your channel and it gave so much information…thank you! My kitchen is 24 years old and I want to paint the wood cabinets (dark blue on the bottom and white on the top, with brush gold hardware). I am in a mobile home and the cabinets are made up of different materials, wood for the base, doors and drawers but a cheaper fiber board on the sides of the cabinets. Plus the trim around the top of the cabinets appears to be plastic 🤷♀️🤷♀️. I was told that to spot paint each area with primer and if the primer adheres well, then I should be okay to paint. Any thoughts or suggestions? Also, I am also painting my master bathroom (made of the same materials) as my test project…wish me luck!! Thanks again for the simple yet complete process. It has given me the nudge to follow through with the project.
great video! I plan to buy paint grade cabinet doors to refresh a half bath vanity. They are already sanded. Do I need to prime first? And I presume that after each coat of paint, I should use the velour roller (that is, even on the 2nd coat)? Am I likely to need a third coat, given they've not been painted or finished before?
I would prime...it might raise the grain a bit, so you may need a quick scuff sand after priming. Have your primer tinted to your paint color, and you might be able to get away with two coats of paint after the primer. Good luck!
I’ve painted over my wood cabinets and they are chipping in places. I did not sand or prime the first time. Can I paint over them again without having to sand? If so what steps do I take?
If you have chipping, definitely sand those areas so they are flat. If it were me, I'd sand all the cabinets when painting over already painted surfaces.
Correct, I only scuff sand if the surface is rough or so shiny nothing will adhere. A good cleaning and liquid sander are enough when using the Advance primer.
@@ACottageGirl This answered my only question about sanding. Great video and like the tip with taping the drawers. I'm going advanced and never thought of tinting the primer but were doing some form of white so should hopefully work!! Appreciate the tips!! feel like I'm ready to tackle this!!
what about using all chaalk paint for the project? that is what I bought And people say no??? why?? I found the perfect color in,chalk paint for cabinets now I don’t know why and you primed with chalk??
Many folks do use chalk paint, but it must be sealed. It's also a bit harder to get a smooth finish without some sanding between coats as the chalk paint is thicker.
Congratulations you are the first person to paint cabinets that I’ve seen who uses a velour roller but you might not be aware that Sherwin Williams colors to go do not contain some of the additives that their regular paint contains such as bonding agents. Just because it comes in a quart size bottle doesn’t mean they don’t make it in massive quantities and they are able to sell it so cheaply because it’s not true paint, but your work looks great very professional looking, I’ve been painting for 40 years so I know.
I only used the Color to Go as a base for making a chalk paint/primer. I'd never use it as regular paint for the reason you stated...no bonding. And I love velour rollers! Thanks for the kind comments!
Refreshing!!!!! Thank you thank you! I'm watching from Joyful Living with Jen and you two have given me hope that there is some raw midlife content in the ether lol. Thank you for this inspiring video and the courage to keep going with my own midlife content and journey.
One of my 😄 “mid-life Sistars” showed me her kitchen cabinets that she did following your post! 😍Beautiful! Sub’d and looking forward to doing old cabinets here. Thank you for the details in how to do this👍🏼
Very helpful. I would suggest actually doing the painting instead of the dry brush. You could always do the dry brush with the dialog, but maybe a time lapse of the actual painting.
