Its great to know Keith went on to try to persuade Americans to work together. I went to O'Leary Jr High in Twin Falls with him and we were in the Performing Arts Company our Freshman year. We traveled all over Eastern Idaho and performed children's skits. He was always a kind guy, and a cutie, too😉
Don has been a life long family friend, mentor and great person. Don and Bonnie are so invested in Idaho and are the nicest people. Love seeing this. Have spent many days just sitting in the outdoors with Don and watching the world move a little slower.
The problem with assimilation is that Native American / First Nation people are slow to let go of the colonialist label of "Indian." As well, Native pictography & petroglyphs (aka storytelling) began farther back than 2,000 years ago. All you have to do is Google search to find articles that say in Nevada, petroglyphs in the western part of that state date back to around 14,000 years. Those are currently considered the oldest in North America; although if you look further I'm sure there are articles out there that have found older ones that aren't published. Native people lived on the land millennia before 12,000 years, so even among our own people corrections still need to be made. Being Nakota / Cree myself, I enjoy seeing more and more storytellers coming up in the world with amazing literary work. My only issues with this video is the misnomer toward Indigenous / Native / First Nation people, and his incorrect timeline of the timeline regarding pictographic storytelling
It would take another amendment to repeal an existing one. E.g., the 21st repeals the 18th. That takes 2/3 of both houses of Congress and 38 of 50 state legislatures to ratify. Ain't gonna happen. The amending process is tedious, long, and extremely difficult.
I went to the Idaho gathering in the 80s. The trail in was strenuous enough to keep the drunks in the parking lot. The kitchens and bathroom facilities were well organized. Wavy Gravy was there exhorting folks to clean after themselves and organized the cleanup after. I had a wonderful time there
Something instilled in my life Tererai.I am ever filled with hot tears when ever I think or read about your life . There is so much to say when you are in similar situation .I just wish all the girls , especially those in rural areas ,, should realise they're have a destiny.
Harry Hugs is a person who used a shovel and almost beat to death 2 people at a rainbow gathering. They were life flighted by air and lived. Harry then served time in a California prison. That he is the face represented here is unfortunate. Rainbow Gatherings are a real mixed bag.
Great conversation. Terrific book, Empire of the Summer Moon. Incredible story of Quanah Parker and the Commanches, nearly surreal now but actually not that long ago. Admiration goes to Quanah for having a change of heart and mind about warriors "activities" on the Great Plains and for guiding/leading his people to safety, albiet, a reservation. Good point that Mr. Gywnne makes about coming to know ones own immediate (geographical/topographical) landscape although this includes ones interior landscape as well, ie, an intimate connection to the land - versus - the white man's desire/behavior to control and dominate to obilivion if he does not get his way...
I hate it when people say "you split yourself...." I had absolutely nothing to do with my splitting! It's just something that happened organically! I wish this would be cleared up! And/Or people would really think about what they are saying.
I love the new Star Wars stuff! I really like the moment when Jedi Master Jean-Luc Picard meets his identical twin Sith Lord Shinzon. That is such a tense scene!
Very beautiful area that I have been in a few times. In the south east edge and been taken in when I was working for the forest service. I hope it will be protected forever!!!
