Hi mate just wondering on if yours is still going till this day and never missed a beat, If you taking it anywhere around Aust at all? As i'm looking at getting one myself.
Don't know where you got the current draw from, My Waeco draw 4 amps + ,Engel draws 1.7 + Waeco display lost digits after two year. Just thought I'd add, I have the identical fridge to you, also Engel lid is a pain for standing up bottle compared to the Waeco.
I DO wonder how this dopey-dora manages to get his knickers on and off. Perhaps he doesn't. Just as he doesn't show us "and how to set it up". TWENTY furkin minutes to show us how to do uo a zip!!!
I just purchased a 2003 hilux last week Hope mine goes just as easy. I purchased one last week just arrived today haven't taken it out of the box yet. Damn mine cost me $120 lol I've been dreading doing it, but I have one thing in my favour my guard is damaged so if I fk it I don't care lol. But at least I know what side mine goes on...lol
If they're "both good" WHY have you gone through so MANY o them?? My grandon s still using my first-ever purchase: a BASIC, simple (no electronics etc) Engel, which I used poblem-free for 14 years before I gave it ro him.
I purchased a new 60lt waeco, it never really worked. Had it repaired twice under warranty, then gave up and sold it. Subsequently went camping with a mate, he offered to bring his fridge. You guessed it, it was the very same 60lt model. We drove into our favourite high country camp and you guessed it his fridge was not working. He never bothered getting it repaired, just gave it away. True story !
Most serious off roaders pack an Engel with a Honda Gen set. These 2 items have been an Outback staple since the 70's. The other guys have a long way to go yet.
What a pain. I shouldve watched this before I installed mine. I think I threw out the part that attaches to the airbox. I shouldve cut mine like you did. I've got a dodgy bit of hose all glued up to mine lol
Appreciate the vid mate.. Will definitely be doing this trip in 07 Rodeo diesel pulling 13 ft van from Sydney straight to the Cape.. Standard rims ,toyo open country 255,s. Standard suspension.. Might take your advise and put better shocks in...
Yeah thanks mate. I'm definitely going to make my own. It's crazy what people are charging for them. I'd like to also replace the trip with alli and build in a slide out table. One question. Is there a reason why you didn't secure the stays to the corners and how thick is the sheeting you used and does it flex much with any weight on it? Thanks again👍👍 Mick
Interesting review. Engel fridges draw more power than the Waeco fridges. I have not heard many people bag out Engel fridges / fridge / freezers and have owned a few myself. If you buy any Waeco’s outside of theCFX ( Premium range ) it appears you have problems, if online user reviews are anything to go by
I doubt it. My 14-plus years of Engel-use had it running 24-47 at full capacity @ 2.74amp/32 WATTS (4 hours ON/12 hours off via a mechanical timer) the whole time. Confirmed the tag on the unit; try getting the ACTUAL 'power consumed'* from ANY of the modern manufacturers/vendors. More secrecy than my girlfriend uses to stop her husbnd from finding out about me! * In WATTS, the ONLY real measure. They waffle on about amps/amp-hours/ ad confuse the whole issue with weather/slope/ambiant temperature and all orts of other bullshit! Try getting the ONLY relevant figure: WATTAGE, by which EVERY OTHER electrical unit is measured. (Every see a 15ah lightglobe?? I just walk past such crap because it's clearly an attempt to hide something. aka 'Scamming'.
Hey mate great vid very helpful. One thing I noticed, you said your awning is 2mx2m but your awning wall is 2.5m wide? The 2 look like they are the same width?
Thanks for the Video, I'd love to do the trip up sometime in the future. With The Old Teletrack is their roads around the deep water crossings and Shot Gun?
My 40 litre Engel is 15 years old and has never had an issue - it replaced a Waeco that constantly let me down - I wonder how many 15 year old Waecos there are out there still running
Good video 👍 just an add on for those who haven’t done the cape, place your vehical up on ramps prior to leaving & tighten every bolt you can reach ! Do the same at the tip, prior to return travel, you will thank yourself for doing it ,! 👍😎 another tip ok & a good one, clean all door rubbers, and before deep water crossings smear lightly on your seals, Dubbin, as you don’t want to use grease as you may forget about removing it and will cause the rubber to perish, never use an alcohol based products, believe me ! It works great 😎👍
Hiya mate I bought a snorkel of eBay but template is completely different to yours so can’t match it up . Really don’t want to cut hole in wing just in case it’s in wrong position
The Waeco and dometic is a good fridge but rather untrustworthy as far as reliability is concerned. Here in the US, they've blown a few electrical connections because they cut corners. There was a massive recall just a few months ago. Engel seems to be the "trusty" out of the two. Not the highest performing fridge like the Luna for example, but it just keeps on going and going and going.
Love the honesty about bringing too much, it's so easy to overload for no reason. First time I went I brought way more than I needed and it just took up room and bounced around. Such a great trip though!
