I had exactly this failure with all four commanders on two of my bikes, a few months ago now. So I went to the local bike shop and they convinced me to buy them new, since there was "no way to repair them anymore". The parts were ordered and while I was waiting for the delivery there was nothing to loose and I decided to open up the current ones on my bikes. I took them all apart and thouroughly cleaned them. They all came back to life and they work perfect! I feel scammed by the bike shop who forced me to buy new commanders without needing them. They should have known you can simply clean them.
What do you use for a cleaner/degreaser? There is a certain amount of satisfaction in doing something like this. Most people just throw stuff away instead of fixing it, like you did.
Hi Broken parts Shimano brand happen very rarely Apply a lubricant spray, maybe it will be solved.if it is not solved, you should get a similar number of papers from the bicycle repair shop and use its parts
I completely agree with you, more attempts have been made to show how the bicycle components work and to check the factors affecting the failure of the parts
I am sure there will be comments about why you should replace the bottom bracket, but in my opinion you did a great job. Not sure if it is worth spending the time though.
Of course, your opinion is correct, but as long as the bearings are not damaged, there is no need to replace the lower bracket, and cleaning and greasing is sufficient.
no,no no, do not remove it from bike, take brake cleaner and spray it inside , and try to shift up and down and pull cable, repeat it 2-5 times , after it starts to work, spray wd40 inside or some lubricant. if shifter is not broken it will start to work when brake cleaner melts old grease
@@farmbike yes,but in 98 percent cases, old grease wes hardened,in my shop entered maybe a few cases in 20 years and all were because of bike crash, mostly on road bike because sti shifters are exposed
@@makantahi3731You're totally right. I've experienced this failure on four(!) of my bikes. The mechanican in the bike shop tried to convince me to buy everything new, since it was supposed to be "beyond repair". In reality it was an easy fix. Just like you say, I opened the device without taking it much apart, cleaned it with a disolvent and pressured air, applied a new fresh thin oil, and...all four work perfect again!
This is the first time that nickel batteries are used sealed acid batteries will be damaged when not used for three months and have a lifespan of two years, but nickel batteries do not deteriorate, do not require maintenance and have a lifespan of five years.the cost of this battery, including a new charger,is the same as the cost of a sealed acid battery
ThankYou SiR! Sir but my gear shifters has no broken parts, instead as i didn't use it from many months, the shifter get stucked, looks like junk on it, not moving, not shifting! in some videos its shown to put a chemical like lubricant! but sir i didnt have that! any other method to repair! sir plz make a video on that!
Yes sure You can open the cover of the shifter and pour some oil on the spur and shake it with a needle let it become smooth, spray lubricant and clean it with an air pump it can be useful

no need for disassembly. just wash with detergent and a toothbrush; flat paint brush to remove dirt. put engine oil into a syringe with a needle to lubricate moving parts.
