Good video buddy but I thought building regs now state 100mm insulation to meet the u-value requirements?
@DanLee40
@DanLee40 6 дней назад
If you were building a new house or extension you would need a u value of at least 0.18 W/m2k for walls (eg:130mm thick foil backed insulation). However this doesn’t apply when working on older properties existing walls 👍🏼
@MarcusT86
@MarcusT86 6 дней назад
@@DanLee40 oh wow, does that go for my 1950’s cavity wall semi detached? Was thinking of adding EWI, but didn’t think I could as low as 50mm.
@DanLee40
@DanLee40 6 дней назад
I’m not an expert on building regulations so if you have genuine concerns I’d contact a local building surveyor or architect. Certainly in my experience you could add any thickness of External Wall Insulation to your property. If possible 100 mm over your existing walls will likely give you the u value of current new build standards. It’s worth noting that any thickness of external insulation would also help massively to protecting your properties walls and keeping them damp free for much longer than traditional rendering. So they are more benefits than just increasing the u value 😁 I hope that helps.

All the advice in this video is directly from EWI expert trainers. They teach all their applicators to apply the adhesive to the wall AND the back of the insulation board. Then 5 mechanical fixings per board. They also provide a 10 year guarantee BUT only if you complete the insulation system as they teach it. Your method may work and all the best to you. I personally guarantee all my work and also want EWI’s 10 year guarantee so for that reason I will continue to follow there perhaps over the top standards 👍🏼
@Ireland-bc2gx

Their is no need too coat the wall and the back of the board,it's a waste of materials use the correct notch trowel Then the fasteners,that sill cap is a water trap cut the sill off and pitch it slightly so the water runs down the building 👍

Hi Daniel, Fantastic finish. Looks like a very tricky ceiling. 🤪 just curious, why didn’t you bond out curves before hand ? Not that it makes any difference to finish production. Or was that just a personal preference to go with all skim coat instead.

@DanLee40 Месяц назад
Thank you, that’s very kind of you to say. You are quite right, using bonding coat on the curves does work really well. For me on this occasion I wanted to keep the curves as sharp as possible so I chose to use multi finish to highlight the curves more. I hope that helps 👍🏼

The main benefit of the spray machine is the overall ease on the body. Im sure you could apply the lime render by hand as quick, at least on small areas. But your body will tire much quicker when applying by hand.

Thanks. Ideally the one coat render should be allowed to dry and fully harden which normally takes around 1 - 2 days in the spring/summer/autumn. Then the thin coat primer needs to be applied and that also needs to fully dry (6- 24 hours depending on temperature). Only then should you apply the silicone thin coat render top coat I hope that helps

@DanLee40
@DanLee40 3 месяца назад
Thanks. The working time is around 90 minutes. As with most external renders the weather has a huge influence on how it drys. It’s quite similar to traditional sand and cement render. A bit stickier perhaps. I recommend giving it a go. Easy to mix, lovely to apply. You still want to apply 2 passes (scratch coat and top coat). The scratch coat should harden in 1 - 2 hours then you can get the top coat on straight away. Great for small jobs 👍🏼

Spot on, people say " plasterers don't last long in the game" No, the ones that sink 5 cans a night and don't look after their body don't, however balancing and strengthening your body, and making positive lifestyle choices has been shown to massively increase the chances of a long and healthy career on the trowel, or just in construction in general, good to hear it from another spread👍

how come you’ve got a scratch on first before the ocr mate? and is that scratch also weber ocr?
@DanLee40
@DanLee40 3 месяца назад
We were called in to finish the job for a customer as they weren’t happy with the renders that started the job. The scratch coat was really poorly applied. It was very lumpy and it took a lot of extra render to straighten the walls . They also rendered passed the damp course with out putting in a break in the render. Effectively bypassing the damp course and making it useless. This render had to be removed and a new beads with a full strip of sealant applied to maintain the damp course and allow us to render to the floor .
