This is really great! Got one and have done some of the things you are doing, including taking my Surly DiscTrucker to the bike shop. You did it smarter and I cant wait to try it. I just stuck mine in the bag and strapped the front wheel down. Using the XtraCycle extension like you did is the way to go! Thanks for sharing!
Just last fall I had gotten my surly big fat dummy, I really like the bike except for one thing, the royal piece of crap kickstand that I cannot depend on whatsoever! As you well know, these bikes are not cheap whatsoever, but surly definitely dropped the ball when they have these expensive bikes come out with a chintzy and cheap five dollar kickstand on them I’m curious what you use especially when you have any cargo on board? Thanks!
I own the surly big fat dummy, and I do enjoy the capabilities as a cargo hauler very much. The biggest flaw and lack of completion of the design?? The absolute pathetic excuse of a kickstand! This piece of crap kickstand is absolutely useless when trying to load any cargo whatsoever, and I’ve heard the comments of “lean the bike against some thing“ and that is an absolutely absurd thing to do when trying to load any cargo, especially when there’s nothing around to lean against! I would really like to know what other cargo bike owners do other than spending over $400 for the “rolling jackass“ system… It is absolutely aggravating to spend this kind of money on a bike and surly has a cheap five dollar kickstand on it… Useless!
kinda sad, sf used to have so many cuties like this. now it's a lot of guys making $200,000 a year dating women who teach yoga (not that it's bad it's just massively boring). and bike kill is pretty established too! hope this can return to sf some day
The Petromax hk500 is currently produced in China. It's a pity that it's not made in Germany. I want the Petromax hk500 born in Germany to be produced with German technology.
I'm thinking about going for a fork mount, to get the benefit of a front/rear lamp from a single unit. Wondering though, if I'd be missing out on any heat output as I ride. Probably smells good, too, like an old farmhouse.
