One day too late! We had a Chlorine call yesterday and totally could have used a fan... my decon guy opted for the car wash. It worked, but the event took forever.

Definitely was great to get new ideas when it comes to decon and approaching HazMat. Every class I've done has been very traditional in their approach, but recently I was fortunate to have Bobby as one of my instructor for HMIC. The ideas of using "fans and fog nozzles" to push the release further down range to get closer to a release and shut it down, and using fans for decon were so simple, but had never been talked about in any other class I've taken. A lot of great knowledge, and it's excellent stuff I can bring back to my job and my volunteer agency. Thank you guys, great content as always.

I have been waiting for "approval" for this website/app for probably about 6 months now with multiple emails to support and no response. So, either the support in the background is non-existent or this ERDSS is no longer updated/supported.

Your can email directly at Support@chemicalcompanion.org. Also if your email is stout Dracula it's not likely to get approved. Use an official email address.

The OSHA recommendations for instructors are in Appendix E to 190.120. Here is what is says: 3. Instructors. Instructors should be deem competent on the basis of previous documented experience in their area of instruction, successful completion of a "train-the-trainer" program specific to the topics they will teach, and an evaluation of instructional competence by the Training Director. Instructors should be required to maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education or professional development programs or by completing successfully an annual refresher course and having an annual review by the Training Director. The annual review by the Training Director should include observation of an instructor's delivery, a review of those observations with the trainer, and an analysis of any instructor or class evaluations completed by the students during the previous year.

The public never gets the information those directly involved with the incident has. Making assumptions without having that same info will lead to different conclusions. No one here wants to mitigate a situation like this without getting the best possible outcome.

How much beer can you really shake a stick at?

That depends on the weight of the stick and your fitness level. Lighter sticks allow for more shaking per unit time.

Retired Fire Captain Ron Gore from Jacksonville Fire and Rescue would be a great interview. Jacksonville started a hazmat team in 1977, he was the first captain of the team and developed some the operational procedures that we still use today.

Mike Callan is a very good HazMat instructor, I've taken his classes at the Pennsylvania HazMat Technician Seminars at Harrisburg Area Community College and at the FDIC in Cincinnati, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana along with his partners in crime, Frank Docimo and Gregg Noll! I urge everyone that watches this presentation to seek out Mike's videos and books.

7 years ago on the New Jersey Turnpike a tractor trailer full of loose oranges was on fire. When the crew unlocked the back doors... they swung open under the pressure and put one of the firefighters in the hospital for a long time.

Regarding fight vs let it burn, I definitely agree with your assessment. If there's no exposures to protect, would you rather have a smoldering pile of sensitized nasty or a clean incineration? By way of precedent, consider the controlled burn of the Escondido Bomb Factory.

I’m a hazmat teacher for a fire brigade. I watched this video and realised the recruit firefighters I teach may never have been taught this basic skill. The next day I asked them and sure enough they had not been shown this. I taught it that day and have included this basic technique in my training curriculum. Thanks hazmat guys. Well done. Your content is invaluable. The ERDSS video was also fantastic and is to be included in our hazmat level 2 refresher training. I was lucky enough to be a part of the recent video con on the new version of ERDSS. Such a valuable and powerful tool.

I love the video but you removed the gloves incorrectly, by putting a contaminated gloved finger under the glove to remove it, which would transfer the virus to your body, rather than pulling the fingers of the gloves to loosen it, then pulling it off from the palm. Overall a great video for the novice though. Thanks!
@JimOutofControl
@JimOutofControl 4 года назад
Incorrect. The finger he used to tuck under the other glove was not contaminated. It had been gloved and then the first thing it did was tuck under the other glove to peel it off. This is a standard and proven method of taking of barrier gloves.

What's your assessment of putting a face mask in the dryer after use? One has to figure the heat from the dryer will kill the germs, but the dryer action will make the mask not fit. Your opinion?
