Discovery Freelancer combines exploration and player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) experiences with enhanced visuals and an unparalleled active community. Casual role player's welcome!
There's no single player campaign, no. The mod is basically an online MMO where the game world story is regularly progressed through server events and content updates like this one.
You're missing out if you don't at least have a look. There is bottomless play-ability in Discovery Freelancer. There's also an HD mod for those who can't live without fancy graphics. The dev team has done wonders for this old game, and the "coming soon" space game announcements that I've seen lately fail to take my attention away from this game.
These trailers are getting better with each update release. I love the german accent, it's a nice detail. Good job to the developers and the community that has come so far after all this time.
Only game where you can do something that matters. Don't be fooled by a fact it's free to play. It will cost you running home from school or work (or both) to participate in something new or crazy (or both).
The sheer amount of love that went into this update, or mod in general, is unbelievable. Discovery feels like its own continuation of Freelancer, with the base game serving merely as an engine. I recommend everyone who stumbles upon this video to give it a shot. There has never been a better time to start as Discovery is now the most accessible than ever for new players.
You can see the influence on many games like the X- series games, and naturally, SQ42 here. It's remarkable what the modders have done with a 20+ year old game! It deserved a sequel, but business is business.
Hi Joseph, Discovery isn't currently campaign enabled, as some of the mod's changes break the mission scripting. You can still play the campaign using vanilla Freelancer or the (heavily recommended) Freelancer HD Edition mod.
Unfortunately Discovery is not directly compatible with Freelancer HD Edition. As well as updated textures, it included broader game improvement changes and fixes that conflict with Discovery. We'd strongly recommend playing Freelancer HDE for an amazing campaign experience before trying Discovery for the online multiplayer.
Very good game with only one gripe from me. The story is short, and once you finish it the universe kind of loses its feeling of expansive and feels...empty. I would love a game like this that has more expansive story and more unique things to do.
Man I remember the mods for this game. They were SOOO COOL. People had x-wings, viper mk II from battlestar galactica and white stars even shadow vessels from babylon 5.
