The 2006 Toyota Tacoma is a tried and true platform that is constantly being improved upon. Full-size overlanding is tough but it is necessary with our families. Hi, I found your video after wondering if I should consider overlanding with an Expedition instead of a RossMonster or other. I've never been offroad much but have been living in Sprinter vans converted for 13 years and am about to retire. Been advised not to spend too much on my rig until I have lived the life a little and that seems prudent. Not too hip on pulling a trailer unless I can leave it low and go higher with an Expedition that is upfitted appropriately (suspension/roof solar/bedroom in the back). Have you encountered anyone with this approach. My thought is to spend shorter stays uphill and longer ones in the trailer then head back to town every 14 days. Appreciate your videos. They get me started!
Always nice to see a fellow Expeditioner - what year is yours? Mine is a '17 but I like the lines of the newer models. Question - looks like a modified front bumper but I didn't spot a winch? Any reason for that or is it just well hidden?
How modify is your rig? video shows some pretty awesome trails on a somewhat stock Expedition (maybe not) I drive a F150, lifted and 35’s hoping to do some fun trails without having to re build a car after a trip. Great video!!
A stock F150 should be able to get into it pretty good , you may want to look into a quality suspension lift to fit bigger tires for more ground clearance. Have 4x4 and a rear locker really helps too
I enjoy... I start biting my nails watching your Expedition climbing... I am in the process of purchasing a used one... I have my F350 4x4, but my truck has never been in anything like that. My truck weights 8k pounds. so its awesome to see that big boy doing crazy stuff... Thank you for sharing.
Awesome video... I purchased an new 2003 Expedition... Family grew and that SUV was the perfect car for us for many years... Now, I am thinking about purchasing a newer one... I did a search in google and this video showed up... You answered my question... is the Expedition 4x4 capable for overlanding? I think the answer is YES. I also own a F350 Dually 4WD and a 2004 4WD Jeep WJ. I subscribed.
Haha yes it is an amazing ride! I believe front and rear lockers on 37s geared is the absolute way to go! It'll go anywhere you need to go as shown in my Moab video haha
@@kingdomoverlanding awesome, thank you, are there aftermarket lockers available for the trucks? Does the FX4 use the torsen like the front end of the raptors? I am looking at maybe buying an expedition so, I am wondering what I can do with it.
Man wisj ford did a v8 with these expeditions man. Would be even more beast. But truly cant wait to have something like this.. crazy how newer expeditions i seen from the comments allresdy doing their builds.. have. 2020 expedition in red. Did a chrome delete ceramic windshield.. 35 over 20 all the way around.. expect the front side.. just 20%. And plan to add another 35% the entire car but in ceramic..i live the truck it is stock.. but the way i see this.. man even my pops going to be amazed. Its a very luxurys car . But have to out them what they are made for .. your build is inspiring me to do the same.. plan to go to mexico in it.. upgraded the normal lights to leds and fogs.. but i seen in a website where they noe have there own lane.. the expeditions bumper. But no back 🫤 if anyone knows let me know... And a 2003 ram v8.. 15+ lift kit and all like the expedition is what i also plan to do. Poweful held up so many yesrs with proper maintenance. Mud tires.. get it repainted speakers and upgraded from cheap headlights to some novas.and hate the chrome.. get it off sand it and paint it black.
Hey I got 2 Flex Eras and a few small accessories on my Auxbeam 8gang. The lights will work great for a alittle bit and then just power off and the switch board wont power on for a few hours. Is it because the amp draw is too high?
I love your videos bro It's hard to find off road videos of Ford Expedition and I think it gets a lot of off road potential, do you use lockers or LSD??? My expedition has rear LSD, I want to start making modifications. and I have thought about raising the wheels to 37”, do you use 35”??? thanks for your videos, greetings
I wonder if putting a 1/2-1” spacer between the bumper and the frame rails to pull that gap between the plastic and raptor bumper in. Possibly give some clearance around the tires as well
Do you sleep with all your kids up there with you? Or are they in the annex? Wondering if would still be comfortable with 2 adults and 2 kids without the annex?
For us that just tuned into your channel it would have been nice to say what gear ratio you went to. You stated you were 3.30 but not what you went to.
Picking up a ‘19 max with the FX4 package tomorrow morning. Trying to sell my wife on doing a raptor conversion. Wheelbase is the same as a raptor so if we can improve departure angle and ground clearing, it could be a blast! Your truck has been an inspiration
@@kingdomoverlanding, hate to bother you but how are your CV’s and ball joints doing with all that lift? I’m thinking something more minor (bilsteins and 1” spacers for a 2” total) and I’m concerned about cv wear
@@kingdomoverlanding good! I’ve been concerned about that. I’m looking at bilstein 5100’s, forge UCA’s and extended rear control arms from the rough country kit. That is if I can’t find a good way to justify the raptor swap
@@kingdomoverlandinghey where did you get those lockers because i have never heard of a torsen lockers which sre onky locked when the wheels are straight
This has me rethinking a F150 as the goal. My thought was to put a RTT on the bed so it's in line with the cab height. However, the enclosed space in the expedition would be nice. How does the Expedition handle the rooftop tent? Did you take a big MPG hit and is it a big wind sail?
I think he needs to change and top up his axles and transmission fluids. Also brand new spark plugs to get maximum torque are crucial when doing something like this.
