Welcome to the RU-vid™ channel for the "native" Hawaii travelogue TV series, Kama'aina Backroads™.
Broadcast throughout the State of Hawai'i on Oceanic Time-Warner's OC16, in Nevada on COX96, on the web at oc16.tv, and soon in more west coast markets, this is travel tv produced for na kama'aina (natives and Hawaii-acculturated locals) and travelers seeking a Hawaii experience with a native perspective.
Each episode invites viewers to explore the best of destinations, historical and culturally significant sites, and to be a part of our "Kupuna Stories," an ongoing segment where we talk story with na kupuna (elders) in various regions of the islands -- sometimes spunky, always unrehearsed, and guaranteed to be an easy bridge to Hawaii of years gone by.
Enjoy select segments from past episodes here on our RU-vid™ page.

She was a definite treasure for Laupahoehoe. I lived up the road at Waipunalei Camp. Aunty Mona and my Mom went to school together and were good friends. My brothers and I would spend our time at the Point, swimming, fishing and doing what kids do. There were no cell phones back then, so if my Mom wanted to get a hold of us, she'd ring Aunty who would find one of the kids to call us and deliver the message. And Aunty would make sure we headed home in time, if she had to come looking for us...auwe. Loved her dearly.

This is so beautiful and have been performed in so many varied ways. Cyril's verson is spectacular, of course, because of his ki ho`alu. This is a mele ma`i for Kalakaua. Many times if a mele has references to "nuku manu", it very well may pertain to Kalakaua's ma`i. Reach the lyrics and research the history. You will find many treasured stories behind the mele.

Actually, in what will seem only a heartbeat - Hawaiian wiil transend both English language (. . . as we understand it today) - and surprisingly, Spanish language as well - (even though Spanish has multitudinal support! ) - pehaps soley because enlightned individuals will easily recognize Hawaiian as the "Voice Of The Soul" . . . a supremely important vehicle toward discovering our true identity and puirpose in the 21st Century.

Excellent! My only critique is to use a wind guard for your mike so that it cuts the wind sound and makes it easier to understand the narration. Great Concept. Good Work!
@aleighland

I really liked your cinematography, The music was a little loud so it was hard to hear your narration and just when it got good it was over. I would suggest a little less time for credits and a little more of your great work. Best of Luck!
