I use webflow and ROR, why you dont create your UI component into webflow export the code, copy & paste into your project ?
@odum
@odum Месяц назад
After using Webflow daily for over a year since this video that definitely would be something I would do, of course since then we've changed course a few times and have built a completely different application! Great to hear of someone else who is a fan of both ROR and Webflow :)

I 200% agree with you. I do have some ideas, however, I'm torn between how much time to invest in this vs. Piixel Pieces at this stage of the game. I do appreciate the support, thank you!

You could create a first RU-vid video on "how to create a blog with webflow step by step". With that video you cover the basics of a website; -Installation (if installed) -Setting -Header -hero -dynamic content -CTAs -Frameworks -Footer -Html -css -Maybe some Js It is a simple recommendation.
@odum
@odum 5 месяцев назад
Great idea! I love the idea of mixing in the how-to style of explaining Webflow but incorporating aspects of design and development.
@rolandoveca

Errors I see on the page (although no one asked me): 1: It doesn't tell me a story that hooks me into it; 2: It doesn't tell me what problem the product solves for me; 3: It doesn't help me decide to buy; 4: You don't have enough CTAs to guide me; 5: It does not have social proof that reaffirms its quality; 6: You don't give me an example of ease of use. That's my opinion, I think you should remake it from scratch, working on its purpose.
@odum
@odum 5 месяцев назад
Thank you for this list Roland, it is very helpful. While I agree with most of your points and there are things many things I need to do to improve the page, I don't believe starting from scratch is the right course of action. There is a good foundation here, but we need to do a better job and telling our story (value).

The answer is simple, work on small projects of 1700 to 2300 dollars that keep the lights on and the children fed and in parallel work 8 hours a day at piixel pices for 1 and a half years; If it doesn't work, you learn and if it works, there's your answer. But give time to time.
@odum
@odum 5 месяцев назад
I think you hit the nail on the head there - it is going to take time. No matter which direction I choose I need to make sure to give myself enough time to make it work... or learn what doesn't!

Great episode as always. Quick question, probably mentioned in e previous episode but I must have missed it. This is CF 2.0 right? Not 2.1. If so, why?
@odum
@odum 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! Yes, using client first principles, but if there are specific things that I haven't included from version 2.1 it is because I haven't gotten myself up to date with the changes since 2.0.

NOTE: In Webflow native components cannot be cut and pasted so the components I created for the pricing tiers will not paste cross project.

Which is best? Framer or webflow?
@odum
@odum 10 месяцев назад
For me, Webflow. For you - depends on your skillset and needs. If you like code and/or to dig into things deeper you may prefer Webflow, but if you just want to design a great site and want an easier to use interface then Framer is likely better.

You can create hierarchy in variables by using the forward slash, “padding/small” and all padding will be in a tree-like structure

A day behind but...the value of folders is also to make sure all classes were named correctly and no typos ensuring that updating one updates all and no stragglers that had a mistake in class name. And you can do mass update to class name from folder saving a LOT of time.
@odum
@odum 10 месяцев назад
Yes, is a huge plus to be able to see all your class names and edit them from one place!

Delayed response…if you use a “component” for the template and component pages you would only need to manage the one component.
@odum
@odum 11 месяцев назад
Oh that's a fantastic idea, I should make better use of components as I think now you can have collections nested inside of them!
@kevynlevine
@kevynlevine 11 месяцев назад
Delayed response on sliding interaction - I would try...put them in a container inside one grid box (may have to drag corner to combine cells), set container to flex and set them both to 100% width, then on hover reduce width of the one you want to be smaller to 25% and the other one should naturally expand to fill as much width as possible.
@odum
@odum 11 месяцев назад
Ended up putting the whole container in a flex box and simply adjusting the grow on the hovered element. Super easy, but made it way too complicated in my head!
@kevynlevine
@kevynlevine 11 месяцев назад
Delayed response - agree to remove the 2nd button from the components/templates cards! This way the whole div can be a link, since you cant have a link inside a link block.
@odum
@odum 11 месяцев назад
Thanks! Yes, looks much better without the two buttons!

2 week late comment....an advantage I find designing in figma first is it keeps Webflow classes much cleaner! If you keep changing your design in Webflow your class names may get messy/mixed up before removing unused classes at the end of a project.
@odum
@odum 11 месяцев назад
After using Figma for a few days now on this project I can totally see that. Keeping class names clean is super important.

Did you build the site in webflow off stream??
@odum
@odum 11 месяцев назад
I think you're asking about my main site piixel.ca and if so then the answer is that a good chunk of the building was done on stream while some touchups and adjustments were done off stream.

I think it’s a good idea with building components. Have you thought about creating Webflow templates to sell? Those also seem to generate good passive income. Curious to hear your thoughts
@odum
@odum Год назад
Thanks! Yes, I have though about it and I agree, selling templates can be a really, really good of source of income. So yes, you'll probably see a few Piixel Pieces Webflow templates at some point in time once I have the basic components build!
