Hey frenns! It’s your resident girlfriend, WindyCityPeach. I am Georgia girl born and raised making my way in Chicago. WindyCityPeach is where my inner child goes to play. I love all things fabulous; gardening; and cooking. To me life is about seeking joy through travel and fun times. I’ve done all of the hard work for you- just grab your fun and come along for the ride.
I am originally from Cleveland but worked in Harvey for more than 20 years, and the South Suburbs, for almost 39 years. Do you have issues with clay soil? We really do in the City.
I'm not sure. Although my bed looks like it's in ground by definition it's a raised bed. I created a spot and then added dirt. But I do have a friend that had that issue. So she did add amendments to the soil so it's wasn't just clay but also added manure and fertilizer.
@@WindyCityPeach Thanks. I actually built up the soil over the clay and planted. I am always interested in other Cook County gardeners, in general, but this South Side and South Suburbs, in particular.
Onion, celery, bay leaves, two cups of black eye peas, one cup of chopped bacon, six cups of chicken stock and pressure on high for 45 minutes with a natural release until the pressure valve drops, remove the lid and season with salt and pepper and garlic powder, enjoy.
Natural release refers to the process where the pressure is naturally released (as opposed to force release when you move the dial yourself and the pressure comes out).
I’ve chopped up some chicken breasts and got them marinating in a mix of butter, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, old bay, ranch dip mix and a little Italian dressing. Thinking about trying this batter on it. But I kinda want to either bake or “par” fry then bake. And I was gonna coat it with Buffalo Wild Wings parmesan garlic sauce. But I have never ate this breading before and I don’t know if it will “mesh” well with the other seasonings?
I just made this after following your recipe. It was absolutely wonderful. I set my instapot for 35 minutes and then let them sit for about 10 minutes before venting. Very flavorful and the best I have ever had. Thank you!!
Thank you so much for sharing! So glad you got thru it. I had a flu, the worst I’ve ever had, earlier this year and it was relentless for the first week and the second week was all slow recovery. I finally was able to get my hands on a Covid test but it was already at the end of the second week and both were negative. Then months later to today, I got Covid for the first time confirmed (if I had Covid before I didn’t have any way to confirm). I’m in day 5/6 so I hope I can get through this. Looking back I realize I might have had Covid during that really bad bout of flu and lingering symptoms sprinkled. Glad you got through it and this video is helping putting my mind at ease. The nausea and the body aches were the worst!!! I’ve been binging on the show Good Witch bc it is positive and uplifting. Now that I’m remembering in the first flu I had earlier this year, I tried to get up to go to the bathroom and passed out/blacked out falling to the ground… my partner came and had to help me up to bathroom. I haven’t had that feeling in this bout but I’m not 100% over it yet. I don’t want to jinx my progress this time around because it definitely is better this time compared to last time. Both times I lost all color in my face.
I cooked it the first time as you said and it came out good but the with beans were half cooked. I added the extra time and put them back in instapot and once I opened them they came out TOO mushy and inedible for me.
Loved that it was "too fasssssssssssT" great easy recipe! I love that you listed ingredients in the info column! The only thing I did different was use cut smoked hocks, substituted half bacon fat and half butter and added crushed red pepper! Loved it!
Thank you for sharing your recipe! I’m very excited to try these. I actually decided to make black eyed peas after hearing my mother and grandmothers batch today over the phone. Unfortunately grandma added too much water and she sounded really disappointed over the phone 😭 I liked seeing your process when it didn’t come out quite as expected.
Thank you!! Gonna try to cut up bacon in mine ☺️ I love greens!! My mawmaw used to always have a big pot of greens and a black eyed peas or pintos on the stove...along with cornbread and would feed me when I was little by "sopping" with cornbread and feeding me with her sweet little hands. She grew up in the depression, picked cotton and birthed babies for others and was a wet nurse God Bless her...I guess being hungry back then was the reason why she always had a spread of good home cooking. She passed away in 88 but it seems like it wasn't that long ago...good memories ♥️ Anyway...thank you for sharing and have a Blessed Thanksgiving!! 😊🙏🏼 🦃
