The walls of the tunnel seem to be red coloured - would you know if that is Devonian Old Red Sandstone?

As a fellow geologist, this was a really good explanation, in an amazingly short video.

I visited recently, there's a laboratory on site, it's called The Sample House, it's where the Ore is analysed and assayed for purity, there are about 10000 samples remaining from the day the mine closed, I highly recommend a visit

They didn't use slaves in 17th 18th century Cornish mining , if maybe you went back much further in time, 2000 years ago in Roman times , possibly the Romans might have used slaves ( the Romans came to Cornwall for Tin) .

Next time, use the mouse the point at the things you are referring to in the video. As a beginner, it is quite difficult.

The levels seen on his scintillator are safe <200CPM. Is this more ignorance of the science, creating unnecessary hysteria?

Collecting radioactive minerals is safe as long as you use common sense and do your due diligence on how to properly store them. ie: not in living areas of the home.

Nice video Simon, I have measured the 60 degree angles on amphiboles plenty of times, but how do they get the 120 angle? This has confused me for a long time I hope you can clear it up. Amphiboles at 60 and 120

Great video, you dug deep for the puns in the title! And the pasty looked good too. Particularly enjoyed the sound track, and the history of this industry that did so much to provide the wealth that Cornwall once enjoyed.

Thanks Simon. I had no idea. My father, also a Rashleigh, carries mineral samples around in his suitcase to this day. I was born in Cornwall and been back a number of times but never checked out the Rashleigh collection. Something on the list to see, and I'm also curious to work out if we descend from Philip

Hi Simon Only just seen your post, thanks for commenting. There are several videos on the virtual microscope website www.virtualmicroscope.org I suggest you drop in on the Royal Cornish Museum in Truro that have a lot of the Rasheligh papers too.
