Valve check...no. Starts and runs, no noises. Oodles of power. Everyone is making a middleweight ADV bike now. 700 not great on a long trip, 900 triple no better no matter the chassis. The world needs bikes for us men. Did BMW stop and the GS1200, no...LC1250....now 1300? Ive taken my 1200 places where I barfed once back to pavement. The bike can do a lot, more than I do with it. I still love mine... continue enjoying yours too bro.
@@Powerkspc oh yeah 100% I’m really partial to my S10 also. I believe Yamaha will make a newer S10 to compete with the gs1300 and Tiger 1200 but right now they are buying themselves time with the Tenere 900 as that’s the popular choice of CC right now. They are losing out on the market by not having one.
Hey ya. Funny I was thinking the same thing eariler this week. Short answer, had some family issues that came up and took much of my time last few years. Uncle had heart attack in the spring and I spent most of 2023 summer going back and forth helping him. Havent gone anywhere "new" lately. I can't do 100 videos of the Cabot Trail. My "Me" time was limited, doing a little fishing and hunting...shooting competition today actually (dynamic timed shooting at steel targets). Appreciate.the inquiry. Winter now. What. Thanks. Bought it spring 2016 and haven’t replaced it yet. Since, Ive added a Power Commander, tire pressure monitor, and tried a different slip on. Added Arrow headers as well…too loud. Awesome. Glad it helped some. I also have a “Farkle” video of accessories on my channel if that helps. All these years later I’m still happy with it. No other bikes added to my “want/consider” list. A friend of mine sold his S10 and bought the T7. His thoughts, the T7 does the off-road much better than the S10 (weight). But, it is nowhere near as stable and comfortable on the long highway stints as the Super T. He also misses the cruise control and the near maintenance free shaft drive. Thats the only hindrance with the big boy, the shear mass of it off-road. Helpful on the highway, a brute offroad. And when I say offroad, Im not talking fire roads. The S10 manages fire roads, dirt roads exceptionally well. Depending on the single track, it isn’t even too bad in short stretches. I think you could safely assume for yourself the type of terrain that should be avoided. Good luck to you hen you get yours!!!

I have a nostalgic '76 R60/6 and a '10 Harley Wide Glide (with apes, custom sissy, and woods 777 cam of course) so I have the nostalgia, and hippie biker scenes covered. What I don't have is ability to go back roads and cross small streams to go camping. I really appreciate your time and obvious passion for motorcycling....greetings from SW Washington :-) Jim
My GPS came with “RAM mounts”. The part around the bar is like a muffler clamp or one of those clamps for winch cables. Kind of a “U” shape rod threaded and a collar for the other side.
Im in Canada. I ordered them through a Canadian distributor called Motovan (via my local bike shop). Pricy, but very good quality. I’ve noticed less Hepco and Becker stuff being available around here. Shane
I have same problem , if I sit not all the way close to the tank and lean a bit to reach steering my wrists shoulder blades and neck get sore . I got risers and tilting steering close to me and up. Neck is ok now but still did not perfect .Maybe I will get longer risers.
Hey Redbear… Have you tried shimming your seat? I hear different rubbers help change the pitch and kind of straightens out your back. Too high a bar means new cables, seat rubbers are way cheaper to try. You’d have to “RU-vid” or “Google” the correct rubbers…I dont know off the top of my head.
@@Powerkspc oh yeah, seat was pushing me forward to. I added some foam to the front of the seat and changed shims. Also I purchased lowering links, it should drop a rear 1,5 " . Looks like should be no problems for cables with longer risers. I still have my old V-star 1100cc the sitting position on that cruiser is soo comfortable:)).
Good to know (about the cables being long enough). Cant use generic risers with the weird bolt pattern, and I didn’t want to get into ROX risers AND all cables. Heli bars also cost too much, unless they work great. May try the ROX after all.
I think ROX is the best option too. Heli’s got a good rep, generic spacers/risers are affordable, but there is so much more adjustment with the ROX. Im in Canada…everything costs an arm and a leg, occasionally a nut…and the sales tax…ugh! Cheers
Andy... I do not have a single clue on actual MPG or L/100. Sorry. And I cant figure out how to post a pic in comments here. My Dash is reading: 3 bars of fuel left, 2 will drop off and the last one will blink. Another comment suggested about 60kms when flashing. My current milage is 274kms (171miles) with 109kms (68 miles) left in range. So, my total range is looking at about 380kms per tank. This current tank was moderate riding back roads. On a trip with highway, I’m looking for fuel after 250 kms, can go to 300kms or so. So, I know range but not actual MPG. Long answer to a question you never asked. LOL. Best I can give you. Shane
This is the Mt Washington Auto Road. The Road is off of Pinkham Notch in New Hampshire, and goes to the top of Mt Washington. I don’t think it has a “route” number. Shane
I have a 2019 Super Tenere ES. Bought it 8weeks ago for $18,500 out the door price and I have 11,000km on it. This is the best bike I have ever owned. The electronics are great, the motor is amazing and it carves the twisties like a beast. None of my friends can keep up with me. The only thing I don’t like is the seat canting me forward so I had it redone by a company in Edmonton for $260 and now its perfect. Also the Gear indicator doesn’t show what gear your in with the clutch pulled in. All my previous bikes would show the gear with the clutch pulled in (last bike was a 2014 Vstrom 1000), and the side stand is crap. It doesn’t lean the bike over on its side enough IMHO. If the road your on has any crown in it, the bike will fall over on the side stand. The OEM panniers were a bit small and the locks were junk so I replaced them with SW-Motech panniers (37L on left and 45L on the right side) Great video. Ride safe.
Highmilagerider: Glad you enjoyed. I didnt have issues with the seat, but my buddy has. I ended up with an aftermarket seat with the butthole relief thingy. The gear indicator thing is a little weird...blank when lever is in. The luggage was adequate for the first year, but got replaced with Givi Trekker Outback top and sides (45L both sides, 30L top i think). Sooo much better. I still love my S10, best bike I’ve ever owned. Fine for an evening ride, or loaded up for a long haul, or for a day out fishing on some easy fire roads. Its some frickin heavy offroad I must say. A few times I’ve boldly gone where only an idiot would continue. Its way too heavy to get turned around on a gnarly trail. So I bought a CRF250 Rally. Great bike, horrendously inadequate suspension. Another Convert!!! I have a K&N air filter and a Yosh RS-4 slip on. Decided Sunday to order a Power Commander V to richen things up with more air. Figured while I’m at it, may as well order some Arrow head pipes too. I also made a Farkle vid if you want to see some available aftermarket goodies. What I did anyways. I think you’ll find the S10 to tour very well. Its comfortable, makes great usable power, rock solid, tracks very well loaded and unloaded. It is heavy in parking lots and a beast offroad, so be mindful of that. I’ve taken mine in places where I really shouldn’t have. Congratulations on your purchase. Shane

I remember once my GPS said fuel in 50 kms or so...no problem. Got there with the gauge flashing and all there was was half a sign. Knew I was another 50kms to the next town...killed the motor every downhill. I bet I “just” made that one. The bike is toooo heavy to push!!! All good.

On the contrary...I thought I wanted a BMW or KTM because of the hype and thats what people buy for distance riding. Motoguzzi and Ducati are nice, but not really what I wanted. Africa Twin was more of a 50/50 bike that didnt have the road characteristics I wanted. I was caught up in what I thought other people thought I should be riding...if that makes sense? I stepped back and wrote a list of my requirements and many bikes checked those boxes. The Super Tenere never made my list of bikes because they are so uncommon around where I live. I read about them, but only saw one once in person back in 2013. In 2016, My dealer had one brought in and when I saw it I fell in love. It checked all my boxes and then some. Its understated, capable, dependable, reliable, priced at a point I could afford, plus it came with options I never considered and now don’t think I could do without. So, no...I definitely did not settle. That was kind of my point...settling for what will do will always leave you wondering about what you could have had. Still love the bike, my added Farkles...wouldn’t trade it for anything...not even a new one! All the best JEB.
Gotcha. Well after my 4th season I have no regrets. It has all the fluff of the BMW and other European bikes without the price hike and ongoing maintenance fees. Its also less of a heat score and not a bike that a thief would want because of its beauty. After 4 years, I’ve changed the oil, changed tires, and changed the air filter. Shit, I’m still using the original brake pads...although they will be replaced this fall. Its never coughed, never quit, never made me question a long distance ride. No regrets here. It may not roar like a Ducati, or looks as cool as a R1200GS, but there is nothing in the back of my mind while riding about the bike...like when are the ABS servos going to quit or...I hope my final drive lasts until I get home...yet another infamous BMW wear item. No shits on any bike or model, S10 was a good pick for my needs. Good luck with whatever you decide. The Tenere 700 is also on its way to NA I think for 2020. Not the same animal as the S10, just an FYI. I loved the XT660’s, the 700 looks almost as good.
@@Powerkspc they help you to have less wind noise. believe me if you but them to your tenere, it will be new motocycle experience for you and you will can drive in highways with 150 - 170 km with no any wind issues
If I can find them on sale or something maybe I’ll try them out. I found the tall windshield made a big difference. I still need air to hit me though because I overheat easy and need wind through my gear to keep me cool. Thanks Shane

Twin exhaust still might be available from NONE Racing, Spain. You can hear it on mine, it changes the feel of the ride. 24000 miles service costed me £70 in parts, and £370-ish in labour. Have to mention that they didn't have the time to do the forks so they didn't charge me for it.
@kenny master Haha, I still think it was cheap, considering the 27+ bullet points that they have to hit for the 24 000miles service, but there is one thing that you can skip that I have found out later on, which is the valve clearance, which is the most work intensive bit of the whole thing, because it is a Yamaha engine.;)) Seen a vid where the guy said, he didn't do it till he hit 120k km, and even then it was within specs.;)) Haha, just to get the sparks out on it is a bloody nightmare for the first time, so I can imagine how much more of a pain that one can get, but well, at least the sparks are on the way to the valves, so to speak...

Not sure how to answer you here. I dont have any exposed wires, so no...they dont get rusty. I solder and heat shrink all of my connections to anything electrical I add, if thats what you’re wondering. Shane
I currently have a 2013 and 2015 Super Tenere. summer of 18 (pre 2015 purchase) I road my 2013 647 miles in one day... no sore butt at all on the standard seat. I love the Super Tenere. Trying now to sell the 13 and an 09 Goldwing. NEVER EVER imagined the Super Tener would be more comfortable than a Gold Wing, but it is... and oh btw, I am 67 years old.
Shane F Hell... I’m 69 and still ride my 04 Honda ST1300 ABS, and my 08 Goldwing :) But I am looking to bring it all down a notch or two, simply because I’ve been riding these bikes a long time. I’ve had my eye on adventure bikes for the past couple of years... I think next season will be when I sell both Hondas and get a Tenere ES. I think it’s a great bike! Will be test riding one in a about a week or so.
My 13 model has ambient temp are you sure you have not.i would like to know how many miles you get to a full tank right to where it would run out.nice color you got there.Thanks for sharing
Derrick Murphy Hey. I get about 300kms moderate riding before the last bar starts to blink (mine is likely different than your ‘13)...thats just under 200 miles. I’ve stretched more in some isolated places but thats not fair to say (tall gear at 80kph killing the motor on downhills). Note...just because a GPS says 40km to the next fuel station doesnt mean its actually there!!! My “A.Temp” in the manual says “Airbox Temperature”. And I’d say its correct as its usually a few degrees higher than what I think I know to be the Ambient Temperature. Take care. Shane
I was concerned about cables too. I put it on the Triumph Explorer and the cables just made it. The anti vibration set helped a lot. That said I added the grip puppies and from that point vibrations were a non issue. Warning on the grip puppies, it does make the grips thick. You get used to it and because it took care of the vibrations it was worth it. At the time I lived in Colorado and did a lot of fire roads and I did prefer the thinner grips...highway it worked great though. Went to Glacier National Park and the puppies did not effect the heated grips either. One other add on that I did to my Tenere, I took the rubber seat post off the back and put the lower ones in the back on the stock seat. It made the seat level and that was the winner. On long distance my wife and I added the Alaska Butt Pads and that solved the long distance sore butt issue. Hope this helps.
Jim W. I now have the grip puppies on my radar. I now have a Saddleman seat, and the rubbers are not removable if memory serves. I’m using an inflatable Airhawk R seat-pad. Feels like I’m sitting on Jello, but really takes the pressure point sting out. I take it off for twisties and shorter rides under a few hundred kms. I may actually try the stock seat with the modded rubbers and the Airhawk...the Saddleman seat was not worth the $. Still undecided on the Rox...I hate spending money on stuff that may end up in the toolbox. Shane
Shane F I think I would pass on the Rox Risors. The other thing I did was purchased a pair of Olympia gloves that had jell pads on the palm. That is one thing I have a hard time giving up. Love those gloves. I just got the Oxford heated grips (i have had them before) but decided I did not want to put the kit for the factory grips. Are you happy with the performance of the grips? Did you have problems with the numbness in the hand before the heated grips.
Jim The factory heated grips are way too expensive for me. I find the Oxfords are plenty hot. I wear thin gloves because I think dexterity riding is important, and the grips can get too hot. Not hot spots, they just get hot. No complaints there. I did however wire the grips through a relayed fuse block I installed. I dont think i like the automatic off idea of anything. I also recently invested in a heated jacket liner, and sprung for the heated gloves...sweeeet! And just to be clear, the numbness thing is a minor issue for my hand. Its one hand, and not all the time. Happy Christmas Shane
For a guy who does not know what you are doing you sure did do a good job! I was the same list as you did. I had two Explorers and a chance stop at a Yamaha dealer changed that. It is great for two up bike, no drama as you said, and get at least 50 - 53 MPH. Does everything I need it to do and I truly can’t find a reason to buy a new bike. My issues with the bike is the gear indicator when not in gear, I would have liked to have the 900 watts system like the Triumph Explorer. Other than that I agree the temp gage does not come up as accurate. Love my 17’ Super Tenere. Try the grip puppies and the rox riser with the anti vibration gaskets for the numbness. Cured my problem on my Triumphs.

I’d have bought them already but have been concerned about cables and lines. Issues? Never thought of grip puppies...I figured that would hinder the heated grips but now I realize when its that cold im not on the bike as long. I may try them. Funny its just my right hand though. I may augment the “stable”, but the only thing that I expect to replace the Super Tenere is another one someday!!! Take care, Shane
Great points. I was looking at all the same bikes (BMW, KTM, etc) as you were. Came across the Tenere with a really good price, bought it, and having been loving it. Watched so many moto reviews from all these "pro" riders and they were doggin' it. I have done on road, off-road, and even jumped the Tenere tank! Totally kick ace and am exited about a long adventure ride. Keep doing the vid's.
Lazysurf Nice. Congrats on the new ride. 3 seasons and I still love the bike. Still adding personal touches to it. I got mine airborn once as well. One of those fast twisty roads in the Adirondacks...fully loaded too. Even handles well in the air too! Although I do believe I pooped a little. I also did a “farkle” vid too if you were interested. I’ve added to the bike, but havent replaced much. A seat and windshield is all I replaced, and honestly I dont think that was money well spent. Next time an Airhawk and maybe a Madstad. I will have to watch that one, for some reason RU-vid started me at this day. We were there earlier this year, stopped in at Ben and Jerry's, Smugglers Notch and a few other spots. Hope you got to do Bear Notch and Kancamagus Hwy. Do Blue Ridge Rd and Ensign Pond Rd in Ny State, does not look like much on the map but rivals NC and WV roads.

Your negatives are not important to me, I have never had it on my bikes. For the gas, you would have hated the VStrom, the electronic gauge is not proportional. It goes from full to 25% super quick. It stays at 100% for 250km out of ~450km thank!

I was thinking of doing a 30,000km follow up review as well. I was going to comment that I never look at the volt meter I installed (looked once or twice) and never got an ambient temp gage. Shane

@@Powerkspc I'm a rider like you, just want an honest opinion of what it's like to spend a day on. Most reviews go into detail about cranks and this and that, and regurgitate info off the spec sheet that I have little interest in. When people ask about my fj-09, I simply say I like it :)

Well now, funny I should see this today as I just tested the Triumph 800 and 1200. Could not stand the 800, not nearly the bike the 1200 is in so many ways. Still need to find a Tenere to test out. A couple of questions for you, why did you ditch the factory Yamaha bags? They look a but small and those ones look larger. Why did you go with the uppers, lowers and skid plate that you did over the Givi ones? Sounds like you are not a fan of the Saddelman seat, would the stock with the AirHawk be just as good? Hello MikeWell now, funny I should see this today as I'm just getting up to hit the road again...LOL. I'll make some "reply" time, but maybe when I get back I should make you another vid...just list any specifics or up close shots.I liked that the bike came with bags (money I didn't have to spend immediately), but ultimately I ditched the factory bags because:Not a lot of storage, I think 32L left and 37L right. Also, the muffler detent made for inefficient packing. Also, I'd end up packing the boxes to their max and the body would bow a little, causing the latch for the lid to "pop" open from time to time.Mounting was a bit weak. Two contact points, so at some point I just expected to have to deal with that.Mounting is just stupid. Takes three hands until you get the hang of it. A vid would be the best way to demonstrate that stupidity.My Givi's are 48L each side, plenty of room.Hepco & Becker over Givi crash stuff...H&B are excellent quality, as is Givi, but I really liked the heft of the skid plate. It offered the best coverage, and I just liked it. The crash bars were on the same page in the catalogue. I also wanted some upper protection for the Rad and upper panels, Givi didnt offer quite as much protection (in my opinion).(Side note...the side panel on the right side comes off without removing the crash bar...my buddy has the Givi (possibly the Kappa) and has to back off a couple of the bolts to get the panel off)The Saddleman seat is great. But now I realize so is the stock seat. The stock seat is one of the best stock seats I've ever used. For one long day ride, I think the stock seat is fine. For a weekend, I think the Saddleman is better, just not $500 better (Saddleman offers two seats, a two piece and a one piece...I bought the one piece, rider only...no pillion). The airhawk made a huge difference. I found one used for $60 so thought it was worth a try. The comfort is great as far as pressure points, but it sort of makes me feel disconnected on the bike. That last trip I made...I used the airhawk on the long bits, and took it off when I got to the twisty bits. If I was to do it again, I'd keep the sock seat and buy an airhawk...saving $500.Good thing the Tenere has Cruise Control cus my fingers are tired...If you want, send Email. powerkspc@gmail.com

Jeff Pauley Hey. I see a lot of cruisers and sport bikes over there. My favourite is the harley guys in shorts and flip flops with no shirt. I think my H&B came from Motovan, but I heard they were getting out of it. Its pretty expensive, but really good stuff. I have a couple of vids from this summer going around Lake Ontario. My buddy that came has a variety of Givi and Kappa stuff in his bike (mine yellow, his blue). They Kappa seems every bit as good as Givi, just a little cheaper. Very subtle differences. Shane Oh...i just took the back seat off. Im in my 40’s and kept kicking it mounting the behemoth. I strap my raingear there.
Here in Western Australia I bought my 2016 model SuperTenere ES at the start of this year as a "demo" model with 500km on it. Was fitted with the large screen. I have since fitted Givi cases, 27 litre on the left and 38 litre on the right, and the standard Yamaha crash bars. Several months ago I took the bike across the Nullarbor to Sydney, a bit over 4000km in 4 days. Fortunately very little rain on day one and dry for the remainder. Getting the recommended 95 octane fuel proved to be a small issue once away from the metro area but had the choice of running either 98 (expensive) or tipping in a portion of octane booster which I thought to buy beforehand. This is the first bike I have owned with a big screen and at the end of the first day I found my ageing shoulders were paying the price for the lack of wind on my chest. Rather than lose the protection the large screen offers I will look at fitting handle bar risers to lift them up, and see if that works. Sub zero temp nights and mornings on the way across were not an issue because of the heated grips, backed up by appropriate items of clothing, the Shoei Adventure helmet also a benefit with its visor for the morning sun when heading east. The biggest day to that point was a bit over 1400 km, from Peterborough SA to western suburbs of Sydney NSW. The return trip was a similar winter experience, -4 the lowest it got if you don't count the wind chill factor. I fitted a new tyre to the rear as the original was likely to be done before reaching home, replacing it with the new Bridgestone A41. This turned out to be a wise call as the last 300+ km were in heavy rain. The tyre also showed significantly less "squaring off" over the distance. The last day I rode a bit over 1700 km, from Nullarbor Roadhouse to my home in Perth. The bike is mega impressive, and the value for money right up there. The only other change I have made is to fit a lithium ion battery, simply for the fact that the standard battery "sounds" like it is not going to turn the big twin over, but it never failed to do so. Just a peace of mind addition, but also several Kg saved. Only gripe is with the headlights, they are so far off the correct setting, and this was verified on my night time run back into Perth with almost every car giving me a "flash" in protest. There is a fix video on RU-vid so will carry that out. In summary: comfortable, economical, practical, enjoyable, serviceable, reliable.

Agree! Just the kind of review I like; an actual long-term owner. Rambling is fine, just off the cuff, real life owner prospective. I always think the professional reviewers have some obligation to the company that provides them with bikes.
Brian Craft. I find test ride reviews of any bike tend to be positive. Nothing wrong with that, but spending that kind of money i want to know more than first impressions. Glad you liked the vid. I still plan on doing a farkle vid after getting back from my road trip...im in a Hotel now. Cheers.
Yes I do want one! I have been looking at the 650 VStrom, Triumph Tiger 800/1200 and the S10, but will hopefully get the S10. Hard to find a place to do a test ride though. Thoughts on the stock wind screen? Oh and please do a Farkle vid.
I think the 650 strom is a gem. Never owned one, but bank for buck seems pretty decent...they hit that one just right. I wanted a big bike. I liked the Triumphs too, leaned towards the 800 with the 21 and spokes. I bought mine unridden. Was a lot of money for an unridden purchase. But, you know you can just tell sometimes. I was fine with the stock windscreen for 2 years. Bought a Kappa high screen for cooler riding. Left it on all year so far. Out for a ride today in the sweltering heat and I was standing a lot to get air. Im off in a road trip in two days, and I may swap back but I think in the rain the high screen would be better. Screens are cheap (Kappa around $140). In stock form the bike is really, really good. Maybe I’ll try to do you a Farkle vid for you before I go. No promises though, gots me some errands to do.

Mike Mills if you can manage a S10 without using the $ from your Victory on trade...keep it? Sell it later if you dont use it anymore...bit of safety net if you are ready to give it up. Sell in spring to recoup your trade in value. Oddly enough, I don’t see used Tenere’s around here for sale...but when they come up they are pretty cheap, relatively speaking. Not sure why the resale is so poor. Not a highly desirable bike maybe, Its about as pretty as a platypus. You could look used, 2014+ already farkled.
I love my 2012, i test road a 2014 f800gs and 1200gs, 2014 super tenere and 2012 super tenere.....love all of them and you summed it up, i like to ride and not work on a bike so it was a no brainer for me as well....bought the 2012 in 2014 for 10500$ and have no regrets. Whenever i get of the bike i always put it in traction control 2. Ive dumped it in my work dirt parking lot because i couldnt goose it up right in a tight slow turn. Wish it would just stay i T2.
I think if a guy was really annoyed by the TC and ABS...you could interrupt the circuits with a switch on the bars. It doesn’t maintain the TC2 though. I’ve gone TC off, and just killed the motor at the switch leaving the key on. If you are only stopping for a few mins. Its funny...I still give it a caress when I walk by it and thank it when It gets me home (from a trip...not an errand!!)
Yes, the “review” in Cape Breton. I was doing the Cabot Trail the next day...I try to get there at least once if not twice a year. The road was technically the Cabot Trail, between Baddeck and Margaree forks.
I got a 2017 XT1200ZE and agree with everything you have said although I've got ambient temp on the menu as well as the air box temp? Don't know if that's an ES thing though also auto adjusting suspension heated grips and centre stand. Great bikes though they just get the job done without being flash or too expensive, will be interesting to see what the next gen will be like hopefully a bit lighter.
I only have airbox and coolant temp. Thats weird. I think the menu says “A.Temp”. Maybe an ES thing. The only thing to change for a new version i think would be body work, as the bike is damn near perfect as is.
I should mention the non ES (like mine) does NOT have Electronic suspension or heated grips. It does have the plugs to add the heated grips at $600 if you want, but oxfords are $100 and work just as well. I also have the centre stand, and use it all the time. Mostly during hotel stays for loading luggage and gas stations when i need that extra but of fuel...I don’t like the blinky-blinky when im 50kms away from a dot on a gps.
Cool. I seemed to have focused on more of the “peeves” of the bike in the vid...not sure why. I guess after saying its awesome at the start, what else to say? It was on the fly for sure. Post/email any questions if you want. Great bike for me, but maybe not for everyone?
Shane F well one thing that I keep asking myself is, should I buy this bike if I was to ride 100% on road only? I have a DRZ400 already in the stable, it sucks on road, hence the need for a more road worthy one. I'm afraid I will not use the offroadiness of the S10 AT ALL and will be missing out on a better touring motorcycle... But Honda GoldWings,, Yamaha Star Yentures, etc, are SO expensive it's crazy. Seems to me that the S10 is the best bang for the buck for touring.
Hi rottentom I’ll try to help here. I was on a KLR last couple years. Good all arounder (DRZ better). KLR lacking road/tour ability, wanted Highway capable ride that could do med to light offroad. And i mean light, not enduro stuff. That totally ruled out Wings, FJs, HD etc. I kept the KLR and use for closer stuff. Long distance from home is Tenere. Maybe keep the DRZ? The S10 is heavy for some stuff. If it feels too sketchy or im alone...Im not too proud to turn back and find another way. The S10 is comfortable, decent weather protection, smooth power, very stable...and ground clearance, wheels to accommodate several tire styles. With the Tenere I’d say I’m maybe 85% road, 15% dirt. The bike is more capable than maybe my abilities on it. If the trail is solid (not mushy) than your fine. If its gooey...the bike is heavy. I have ZERO regrets. They had to pry the bank draft out of my hand though at the dealer.
Shane F yup, that's what I was thinking too, keep the DRZ for close to home dirt roads, fishing, etc...and an S10 for long distance touring. Come to think of it, some light offroad (i.e. gravel roads, anywhere a light pickup truck could go) could be nice to explore on the S10. Plus I think it looks so much more badass than a GoldWing, HD and the like. I guess I will try to follow my heart for once!! Thanks for the insight 😉.
No worries. Good luck. I search 2 years for the right bike. Saw the S10 (somewhat already familiar with it) and owned it within 2 days. I’ll maybe make a “Farkle” vid. I’ve put a ton of work into it since new (add ons)
