It's Amazing. Not even the DVD has that little piece in the middle. Would have been cool if it was a two part episode and someone from Alpha Control did show up and at least confirmed Will was who he said he was.
Folks, the scene that was missing was the six second segment where the sheriff stops Will and says, "Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I thought I left you with Miss Ruth."
Looks good and sharp. The color for the most part nice and bright but the scenes themselves seem too dark and whats with the unnatural reddish skin tones ?
For all of you who are complaining it is does not look good in 16:9 needs to understand it was shot on a Panaflex camera at 16:9 to start and cropped off the sides via pan and scan to give you 4:3. You have lost nothing. See the BorgCollective post for a better explanation.
I don't think that's correct, my understanding is that it was originally shot in 1.37:1 and then cropped slightly to 1.33:1 for TV broadcast. Anyways, watching this comparison here it's obvious that the top and bottom of the screen are cut off in the 1.78:1 - Full Frame examples compared to the 1.33:1 - Original Aspect Ratio. I suppose it could be argued that nothing "important" is lost but, I would have preferred that nothing was lost.
The remastering is beautiful, but changing the aspect ratio introduces the Cropping/"Pan and Scan" issue. I don't like it when they used it on widescreen films to show on 4:3 screens, and I don't like the reverse. Cinematographers/directors have the aspect ratio in mind as they frame a shot.
It's amazing to me that someone was able to touch up programming that was originally intended for NTSC broadcast television 50 years ago, and do it so well!
Wow, I just rediscovered this show and in my search for the Blu-Ray and info about the transfer came here. This video is now 5 years old. The Blu-Ray box set has been released, but I see they did not give us wide screen. I have heard that the picture is excellent (I'm betting as the samples here are very similar) and the sound is awesome. Too bad the option for widescreen was not made available. I would have also liked to see the black and white episodes colorized. I've seen some stills of this and they really do make a difference. That would be a HUGE set : 1.33:1 ratio, 1.78:1 ratio as well as colorized or Black and white options. We can only wish I guess.
they had a dedicated wall for candy? amidst all that hi tech life support stuff? the full frame stuff is awesome. More cool stuff. Its like watching them fresh all over again.
I love the first five episodes, plus The Antimatter Man, Hunter's Moon, the one with the frozen prisoners, the one where the Robot is compelled to perform surgery on an alien computer, War of the Robots, and the hilarious Devil's Island episode, most of which Smith spends chained to a reprobate alien.
All the classic black and white Season One episodes are by far the best, followed by colorful Season Two, though many seem to disagree with that. But overall quality, balance, length and warmth, colored Season Two is better than Season Three, though you mentioned a few of the better ones in the final year..except the stupid clunker episode with the "brain surgery."
You people really are stupid if you think anybodys gunna believe your crap about restoring this show. I have watched this show forever and I know FOR A FACT that the supposedly "Original Footage" is the manipulated footage and you are trying to defraud somebody!
Wow, the clarity of the remastered version is absolutely fantastic. Better than brand new when aired on CBS on Wednesday nights at 7:30 P.M. prime time back in the 60's. I can't wait to buy the Blue-ray version of Lost In Space.
Is it just me, or does the original 1" look lighter and clearer than the remastered version, which is darker, less yellow, and puts eye sockets and corners in shadow?
it is something that comes into dare we say focus with restoration projects..even films like the wizard of oz are so clear you can see the wig cap mesh and the running makeup on the actors. it becomes a delicate balance
