Hmm. While I do believe the traps may not be enough to completely kill them off, I have had very different experiences. Mine seem to be very attracted to the traps. And at the very least they do help keep them out of my face. Though they are a different brand and look a little different. Mine are one of the ones you actually stick in the soil. (I was just googling to see how often people normally change those, since mine already has quite a lot of them even though they haven't even been there long.) But yeah, I kind of wish I hadn't bought those potted herbs I think brought them in.
Thanks for sharing your video. It made me realize how my indoor plant could get more sunlight by hanging inside near windows.❤ Another idea, instead of using rope, you can also use a wire to hang it.
top man. have found the same myself. dry gravel + moss (and be careful with the water!!). many of my 'little worlds' are made with plants i find growing from cracks in brick and stone walls. happy days
I got some springtails sent by mistake one time, popped them on my carnivorous plants n the mould etc disappeared n the plants became a lot healthier so they get a thumbs up from me 👍
thank you! im still a bit on the ambivalent side. I had been culturing springtails for my ants as a cleanup crew. now i plan to grow cannabis (germany just legalized) but im scared of potential adverse affects using the cococoir substrate my springtails are in. the seedlings need low nutrient soil at the start and my springtails had been going at it in there for a while, so they probably produced lots of nutrients as a byproduct? also i read that springtails will start gnawing on plantmatter if the soil becomes too dry, but your explanation contradicting this seems to be more logical..
I was planning on adding activated carbon to my terrariums because i keep snakes in them and imagine it would make the terrariums less smelly whenever they poop
Thank you greatly! That's very informative. I'm trying to get rid of little flies that have nested in THERE I think. Any tips please? They're flying all around my house.
I have some kind of gnats that aren't attracted to the yellow sticky traps. They are also not attracted to light or vinegar. They are everywhere and driving me mad. There are droves of them outside my windows trying to get inside. They survived a week of below freezing weather and although they disappeared during that time they are now back again. To add to the frustration my dog has seizures so I cannot use any neurotoxins at all and most pesticides have that in them. I'm in Canada near the ocean so a moderate wet climate.
Yep, it’s not a one step for sure…. Went thru sticky’s with Neem oil, (which the oil helps while you’re fooling with your plants, just spray and they smother) then peroxide… mosquito bits…. And while fluffing wet soil, saw the crawling ones in my dirt and got out my Ortho Home defense!! (I had tested it on a begonia). Now, whatever lives, lives but it won’t be bugs!!!
Thank you for the suggestions. I was wondering if I just need to repot with new soil? Most of my plants have been in same soil for years with some as long as 4 years. Your thoughts?
This is an old video so that may be why there is no mention of other alternatives besides soil. I cannot have soil in my house. I do not use paper towels but I do use muslin, Terrafibre and just plain open baskets. There are other kinds of mats too for those who don't want to use soil.
i made a terrarium with isopods, springtails (that i found in my yard) and 2 centipedes and 5 small worms and 2 spiders as well as 81 baby fruit flies, but i never meant to have slugs in there. they were hidden in the soil.
Did you soak the seeds for at least 8 hrs before puttering them on the paper towel. Pre soak the seed will help germination. I always use container which has holes (then place paper towel / mesh/ cheesecloth) so the seed can breathe (extra water can drain out) and root can stretch out.
I had one of those plants and I had it and soil. It really didn’t grow much at all kind of weak and limp and then I broke off a piece and I put it in a glass of just water in my windowsill and it looks like a completely different plant, it just thrives in it.
Oh my god when I changed my indoor bean seedlings to a pot with soil and there was black ants and I killed them turns out they protect plants from harmful insects I never knew that am so sorry about that poor little black ants from now on I will make sure to add some few black ants onto my indoor bean seedlings soil for if a harmful insect ever comes to my bean seedlings they can protect it I never knew that, RIP 🪦 black ants if only I knew they protected my indoor plants and they weren’t harmful to the leafs I would have not killed them I feel so bad now it makes me remember of my little black ant friend called Timmy the small black ant that died because it crawled inside the shower and got wet from the water pressure and died I will always remember Timmy the small black ant and where he used to live with his friend’s behind the toilet his family is probably super sad poor little Timmy 😞😢
