I really love to see very young people like you seeing Madonna and reacting to her. I think this is why she’s still the Queen. You said: How they allowed her to did all the things she did? They never allowed her. She stand in her spotlight and did it. That’s why she is the Queen.
I am 27 now and it was also at age 25 when I decided to enforce boundaries -a much-needed change. I lived life letting things slide because I was afraid of "being unkind" or "overreacting" and it caused me to stick with unhealthy romantic relationships and even mean-spirited friendships for far too long. Even one of the friends who'd tread me as a doormat told me I needed to be more assertive back when I was 19 lol I had to learn through lots of hurt and betrayal that boundaries are not unkind, they're our soul's way of protecting us and it's imperative to listen and enforce when it tells us something is off or crossing the line.
Oh, I've totally been there! Especially, I think it can be really hard to set boundaries with those you fear losing. In my experience, you don't want the relationship to change, so you spare your needs for their wants. It's a sick cycle to be caught in.
I 100% agree with everything you said. I think we all severely underestimate how draining it is to live and act out behaviours that are not in alignment with who we truly are. Of course I'm tired! I'm so much more than this awkward small shape I've contorted myself into just for other people's convenience. Its even worse when you realise that they don't even know you're doing it, but you do and you know its stunting your growth and your joy. Its time to unfurl, stand tall and say it with chest. Thank you! I'm totally with you on that. It's so, so much easier to just be yourself. Always trying to 'keep the peace' is such a thankless job that ultimately only ends up hindering you. To me, even if it risks shattering the expectations others place on me, it's more worth it to stand up for myself.

People don't realize that Lady Gaga may have gotten a lot of ideas from this song when Gaga made the song Bad Romance. Focus on the dancers wearing the head masks. Listen to that beat. Now compare both videos when Kylie is wearing the hoodie dress part. Look at the close up of Kylie and Gaga with the red lipstick. I saw the similarities right away. Everyone says Gaga was imitating Madonna. But, I think Gaga may have been imitating this video of Kylie more.

I really like what you said about not being sure about how to feel and the mood keeps changing. It makes me think about being a catholic as a gay person and having so many conflicted emotions just over my own beliefs. Then beyond myself, you see "christians" being some of the worst people on this earth (I think that's why Madonna included the burning crosses), it's like you are just always being jerked around. Even at the time people thought this video was so evil and it's like no, you're mad that it's calling out that racist hypocrisy. It's like you're more mad about racism being called out than you are about the actual racism. But I really appreciate someone like Madonna kind of sticking to her guns and appreciating her religion while fighting it at the same time.
this song is my favourite, i love that you react to the video with it. it may be a grotesque video with the piercings and stuff hidden behind filters, but thats what i love about it, she can turn stuff many people shun from into an artful accompanying video to one of her best songs.

I think that what Madonna suffered in the middle of this madness is that she became news while being vilified: 'Witch,' 'Whore,' 'Bitch.' And she doesn't have a mother to cry to or hug. Her friends lost to AIDS and drugs. 😭😭
That´s why she ia a millionaire de luxe. LGBT community and Black americans relate to her at a right point. I do remember sitting on a trans-atlantic plane, going via NY to Chicago. When in Chicago, tried getting a ticket to her concert. They laughed so hard at me. I was so young and after that Chicago, I´ve been lucky enouch to see her in many cities. Minus Paris/ Madame X , when she cancelled ....but still I managed to get to her party in Paris. That´s another story ;)

Especially early in her career, she would come upon “minority” cultures where cool things were happening, get moved by them, and then create mainstream art out of it that then became trendy. She’d set whole fashion, music, and visual trends. There’s not a pop artist today, especially women, that doesn’t have strands of her DNA.
Even in the 80s and 90s, no two songs (or even the same two videos) would be too much alike, even from the same or same album. People celebrate her ability to reinvent herself, but her range is still underrated imo. Just an icon!
The vocals on this are the first time she ever sang it and it was done in one take...the producer liked it so much because it was raw and unfiltered so they kept it.
I was in that shoot, I was part of the dancers, we were 50, the recording was in Barcelona in the Olympic jumping pisconas, the filming lasted 1 week 12 hours a day, the deal with Kylie was exquisite and I have many anecdotes
