Beautiful work amazing video especially because you reveal the real truth which is that you don’t have to kill yourself pounding Tyres! Ive built five earth ships and I’ve done it with children of eight years old and even an elderly lady of 76 who was quite capable of finishing off Tyres using her own genius method of a small hammer and a stick! I made a video a while ago during Covid when I got stranded in Portugal and I was having to do about 50 tires by myself in beating hot sun so I also found much easier way and here’s a link to that video which is as you say quite easy to do and then also I managed to finish it off really with very minimal effort too! Just wondering, have they figured out the issue of the walls when the tires start to balls because of a compression, I’ve watched several people who are the second owners of a new ship home having to redo the walls because they say the tires are studying the bulge and ruin the walls and they have to redo them?
@TheOffGridGuru
@TheOffGridGuru 15 дней назад
If done properly, the tires are at compression when you plaster, then settling in the wall would be a result of improper compaction from the beginning

I love the extra wide door. If I were in charge of code, all doorways, walkways, and points of egress would be 6 ft minimum!

So then a raised garden bed can be made like this. With maybe an inside plastic liner? Adobe bricks, or papercrete ?

I’m looking for someone to chat with on the phone and pick their brain about earthship build and mostly alternatives for the tire wall based off our location and other factors. Is that something you would do? Or know someone who would?

Be wise - visit an EARTHSHIP and see if you can smell rotten rubber tires... I hate to rain on your parade... her nose could smell the tires - that means no tires - concrete blocks work... alternatives to consider.

in Europe the binder mix is normally hydrated lime + hydraulic lime + fly ash approx 4:1:1 by weight. Using portland cement goes against the eco friendliness of the binder.

This is amazing! I've been finding my path recently and this truly inspired me. I'm living month to month, but I'm an artist and it's my life dream to just be completely self sustainable and escape this mind ****ery that we are living in, be in harmony again. How do you begin the process on a low budget? I ordered your kit today but ye of little patience 😂 Thank you for what you're doing. It's awesome to see a community of like minded people, been looking for y'all ❤

I visited an Easthship 4 years old and could smell the tires even though covered with plaster... guess my smeller works great even after covid. BTW - couldn't see any tire tread so can only assume tires take hundreds of years to degrade in a land fill so odors likely take same. ouch!

Walls are fully plastered, no exposed tires inside or out… no smell. Check the final video in the series where we tour the finished build. Also in my experience, being very sensitive to smells, you only smell the rubber when tires are fresh. Old car tires with thousands of miles on the road and no tread left 🛞 are typically what we collect for these builds. They’ve already leached their petrotoxins and no longer stink… Nobody throws away new tires and we don’t use them in construction.

Idk if it's mental illness or what, but I like to design off grid homes in my mind that have extremely low heat n cooling costs while I'm at work. Similar to this, I'm no architect or whatever. Think it's just a form of rejection to work and bills and bs. But it'd sure be nice to live dirt cheap. Tried camper life across the country and NOTHINGS free in The Land of the Free, it's never-ending bs, find water, get water, dump water, find parking, get harassed, find new parking. Or pay enough utilities and campground fee's monthly that you're paying the same as an apartment and utilities.

How would I apply the pumice/scoria to the wall?
@TheOffGridGuru
@TheOffGridGuru 3 месяца назад
Great Question, There are several ways to do it. Here are some techniques in no particular order of priority: #1: Double up the wall thickness from the beginning. Use one course of earthbag and one course of scoria filled bags side by side. This would ideally start from sub grade and be as high as the adobe walls, under the eves of the roof. Might be too much labor for some, I haven't seen it done, usually people go with one or the other. #2. Hire a company to come and pour scoria / pumice-crete in slip formed walls.. This could be the load bearing and insulation walls of the house, then you could skip the earthbags and just use pumice-crete as the primary material. Plaster the inside with clay, for some thermal mass. Not sure it would make sense to pour pumice crete around a hyperadobe structure... but I'd love to see the experiment. #3 There is a technique where you mix the scoria/clay balls with a binding agent and throw globs on it on the walls. It looks bumpy when cured, can't remember what it's called. But this technique would be applied to the exterior after its already built. I'll ask around and get back. #4. Double wall cavity filled with loose pumice. I've seen this done with a double can & mortar wall as an experiment at the Earthship Testing Site... Hope that gives you some ideas! I'd say all of them are experimental except the poured pumice-crete... but that's not an add-on to the exterior...rather an entirely different wall system

Earth Batteries may be the secret to endless power. Earth batteries are made of two dissimilar metals placed into the ground or cups of soil or water. They can be wired in series to make lots of cheap volts. Their amps are abysmal. A law of physics can be used the add amperage. Wiring in parallel to a solar panel will add the much needed amps to the cheap earth battery volts. My test worked. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OGGredkAFh4.htmlfeature=shared This is all the green energy we could ever want. Watts = Volts x Amps Example video link (not me) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aCCK132OIGA.htmlsi=8UWtAHco0L60FWBD If you build a test setup use a small 18v or less solar panel or a small 9 volt battery. Do not build an earth battery over 30 volts. Anything over 30 volts can be life threatening. Water, carbon, and aluminum or magnesium work best. Each telluric cell will generate .7-1.5 volts depending on materials used. A photovoltaic cell only generates .4 volts.
